Robbo’s release outrages the Bay. Roo’s search for Martha pushes Alf further away.

Extended Summary

Robbo looks up at the Diner flat, noting the For Lease sign. Tori comes along and is astonished to see him there. Robbo says that he got bail but doesn’t seem as convinced as her that it’s a good thing. Meanwhile, at the Palmer house, Roo is searching for Martha online, complaining about her having a famous name. Marilyn doesn’t improve her mood by suggesting Martha might have changed her name. Colby turns up with the police files and Marilyn heads off to work. Colby says that the police investigation concluded Martha was dead, despite there being no body. Roo shows him the letter Martha wrote. Colby suggests it could be a hoax.

Tori and Robbo go up to the Diner flat, letting themselves in with Robbo’s old key. They notice the place has been emptied. Robbo says he was about to be sent to remand when Pickford got him in front of a judge: His conditions are to attend psychiatric evaluations, check in every day and not leave Summer Bay. Tori thinks it’s good but Robbo says he has no home or job. Tori offers to help. Meanwhile, Alf and John are arguing outside and tell Marilyn that a lifeguard thought he saw Robbo. At that moment, Robbo and Tori come down the stairs from the flat. Tori tells them that Robbo is out legally on medical grounds and there’s nothing they can do. The others are horrified but Tori says she’s not going to turn her back on him.

Colby shows Roo Martha’s death certificate, saying the coroner wouldn’t have issued it unless he was sure. Roo doesn’t think the letter is a hoax, since she can’t think of anyone that would do that to Alf. Colby says he’ll look into anything she digs up but for the moment there’s nothing to go on. Meanwhile, John tracks Ash down on the headland and cautiously tells him that Robbo’s out. Ash has a hard time believing it, since Robbo promised him he was going to do time. He asks where Robbo is.

Tori and Robbo are seated in the Diner and Marilyn nervously serves them. Ash comes in and quickly spots Robbo. He calls him a liar and throws him to the floor. Alf, Leah, John and Tori all hurry to intervene. Ash is annoyed that Tori is defending Robbo, despite her saying she wants to keep them both out of trouble. Ash walks out and Tori follows him. She insists that Robbo isn’t strong enough for remand but Ash thinks he’s conned people. Tori says the person who got him out is a criminal psychologist and wouldn’t make mistake. Ash realises Tori got a friend to do it and walks away.

Alf, Leah and John are complaining among themselves about Robbo’s presence in town. Robbo walks out without saying anything. Colby comes in and Alf and John demand an explanation for Robbo being out. Colby didn’t know he was since he’s been off duty but says he’ll look into it. Meanwhile, Roo is looking at her laptop then heads down the surf club to see Alf. She tells him Colby’s theory. Alf insists he’d know Martha’s handwriting but is angry that Roo has got other people involved, saying it should have been kept between them. Roo says she needed someone to help her.

Tori finds Robbo drinking in Salt. She says she tried to get Ash to see sense but Robbo says Ash and the others are right and he should be in jail. Tori says he’s going to get help, despite Robbo not wanting any. He tells her to stay out of it. Tori says Kat was the one driving but Robbo says she died because of his past. Meanwhile, Colby goes to see Ash at the garage and expresses surprise that he isn’t out hunting Robbo. Colby says that it’s all above board and Robbo will go to trial. Ash replies that Robbo’s still a free man and resolves to make his life uncomfortable.

Colby has gone to the Diner and filled Alf, Leah, John and Marilyn in on the details of Robbo’s bail. None of them are particularly happy about it. Tori comes in and complains to Colby about Robbo being turfed out onto the streets. Alf says he’s not getting his van back and Colby suggests a town meeting to discuss it. He heads up to the Diner flat which Ben is working on. They discuss Robbo being out and Colby asks about renting the flat, although he’ll only offer a six month lease. Ben is happy to agree and they decide to sort it straightaway. Meanwhile, Marilyn goes home and tells Roo about Robbo being back and the town meeting. Roo decides not to attend when she hears Alf will be there, telling Marilyn about their argument.

At the surf club, a crowd of townsfolk including Alf, Leah, John, Marilyn and Ben have gathered. Colby calls for their attention and tells them the police are certain Robbo isn’t a threat, which doesn’t seem to reassure anyone. Tori and Robbo arrive, at the same time that Ash comes downstairs. Colby continues to make reassurances, pointing out that Robbo is tagged so they’ll know where he is. Robbo steps alongside Colby and says that everyone’s right and he should be in jail but he can’t do anything about that. He isn’t sure what he’s going to do about a home or job but says he’ll stay out of everyone’s way until the trial. A lot of people seem to be swayed by his plain-speaking, but when Tori tries to give Ash a conciliatory look he just sneers and walks away.

Colby leads Robbo up to the Diner flat and shows him his things, which Ben got out of storage. Robbo thanks him for letting him stay but Colby says he’s not doing it for him, he’s doing it for the rest of the town. Meanwhile, Tori goes to see Ash at the caravan park. Ash sarcastically says she should be celebrating. Tori says he’s being unfair but Ash says Robbo’s fooling everyone. Tori insists everything she’s done has been to protect Ash and she’d do it all again. She tells him that other people are starting to realise that Robbo’s not a monster.
