Extended Summary

Scarlett angrily demands to know how Caleb found her but Caleb is distracted by Justin; wanting to know who this guy is. Scarlett dismisses him, saying that Justin is just a friend and presses Caleb for information. Caleb nonchalantly explains that it was easy enough to find her since she filed documents for Brody’s trial. Caleb asks Scarlett if they can speak in private and although Justin objects to this Scarlett eventually assures him that it is okay and convinces him to leave. Caleb reveals the reason for his visit, much to Scarlett’s dismay; he tells her that she can’t keep avoiding everything that has happened, Max, their marriage, and that they need to talk about it. But Scarlett isn’t ready to face her demons just yet, so Caleb suggests that they meet up later. The next morning Justin is relieved to find that Scarlett hasn’t left the bay as he was fearing. Justin reaches out, trying to be there for her but Scarlett pushes him away, just wanting to be left alone. Scarlett faces up to her demons and goes to meet Caleb, agreeing to talk through their past and everything that has happened. Caleb apologises for the way he acted after Max’s death and for blaming Scarlett for everything. He is trying to better himself; he is seeing a counsellor and tries to convince Scarlett to stop running so that they can find a way to move on together. Scarlett snaps at Caleb and accuses him of coming to Summer Bay for the sole purpose of clearing his own conscience. At Salt Justin reveals to Brody that he is worried about Scarlett’s husband being back in the picture, but Brody is supportive and confidently assures him that it will be fine. At the apartment, Caleb suggests to Scarlett that they start a new life together and forget about the pain of the past. Scarlett doesn’t think it’ll ever be possible for her, but Caleb makes her see that it is what Max would have wanted. Together they can heal; they are the only ones who understand what the other is going through. After her chat with Caleb Scarlett tells Justin that she is going to take a few days to sort through things with her ex so that they can help each other move on. Scarlett reassures a worried Justin that she wants to start over with him, not Caleb. Justin is understanding and agrees to give Scarlett the space that she needs.

Maggie checks in with Ziggy to see how she is doing after her breakup with Brody. Ziggy snaps that she is fine when she clearly isn’t and brushes off Maggie’s questions in annoyance. But things are hard for Ziggy, especially when she runs into Brody at salt, there is a lot of awkwardness there. Ben knows that Ziggy is upset about the breakup but tells her to stop taking it out on Maggie. At Summer Bay High, Raffy has a go at Jennifer for shoving her in the corridor, still angry that Jennifer and her friends purposefully got her drunk at the launch party. Jennifer goads Raffy who retaliates by aggressively pushing her. Unluckily for Raffy Maggie witnesses the event. Jennifer and her friends smirk as Raffy gets into trouble. In the principal’s office Maggie chides Raffy for her behaviour; John and Marilyn listen on in concern. When Maggie makes it clear to Raffy that this kind of behaviour will not be tolerated Raffy says she understands but mutters under her breath that she hates school and tells them that she doesn’t care if they suspend her. Marilyn apologises to Maggie, startled by Raffy’s behaviour. Maggie placates John and Marilyn, assuring them that she has seen similar behaviour in other gifted children who have been moved up a year, she just needs time and their support. Maggie is working late at the school when she hears a strange noise and goes to investigate. She finds a rock has been thrown through a window and someone is trying to get in through the door. Maggie cowers in the corner, on the verge of a panic attack as the hooded intruder approaches. She cowers on the floor and begs for them not to hurt her. The hooded figure is revealed to only be Raffy, she asks Maggie if she is okay, but she clearly isn’t.

Robbo helps Alf clean graffiti at the surf club, Ben asks if he’s had any luck finding out who the vandals are. Kat crosses and sees but explains that it’s her day off and jokingly says she’ll turn a blind eye and let Alf take care of it. Kat reveals in front of Robbo that it’s her birthday but doesn’t seem phased and insists that he doesn’t need to make a big deal of it. Robbo is left not knowing what to think. At the diner Marilyn gives Kat a cupcake to celebrate her birthday; she asks what Kat’s plans are for the day to which she replies not much. Marilyn suggests that Robbo must surely have something planned for her, Kat answers that he only found out it was her birthday today. But Marilyn has faith in Robbo; he’s a romantic – surely he can still pull something together! Alf asks Kat if she knows where Robbo has gotten to, as he left earlier and didn’t come back to work. Kat remarks that he is probably planning a birthday surprise for her. Robbo returns and apologises, asking Kat if she’d like to go out for dinner tonight. Kat waits for Robbo at the diner where she is dressed up for their dinner. But when Robbo arrives, he is wearing board shorts and a singlet and suggests that they just eat at the diner. Robbo can tell that Kat is visibly disappointed; she was obviously expecting something else. Back at the apartment Robbo apologises for not seeing the signs and doing something special for Kat for her birthday and promises to make it up to her.
