Extended Summary

The Morgans prepare for Justin and Phoebe’s engagement party. Brody arrives home in a mood and loses his temper at Raffy for storing a box in his room. In the morning, Justin learns Brody had a go at Raffy and becomes suspicious. Justin angrily confronts Brody when he wakes up a midday, he knows Brody’s on the gear again. Brody denies it and becomes upset, he feels awful for letting his family down, his dreams for Salt are dashed and he’s let it get to him. Justin tries to comfort, they just want to get Brody back on track. Work hard and be patient. Drugs won’t help. Brody knows that now. He won’t do it again. But then Brody locks himself into the bathroom and pulls out a baggie of white powder. He holds it over the sink, ready to throw it away, but ultimately, he can’t.

With Morag on the case at least John and Marilyn at have something positive to focus on. Morag believes they can argue diminished responsibility and hopefully John won’t have to spend any time in gaol. It will be a tough, emotional journey though. They need to be ready for a fight. Maz is up for it. Is John? John instructs Maz to wake up to herself, he doesn’t think Morag sounded positive at all. Later, Morag informs John she’s received a call from the Prosecutor who’s offering a plea bargain. If John pleads guilty they’ll give him a minimum sentence. Minus parole and time for good behaviour, John could do less than two years in prison, which he thinks is doable. Morag advises him against accepting the deal, she still thinks they can win. If he’s found guilty though, he could face up to ten years in prison. John reveals to Marilyn that he’s decided to take the plea bargain, but Marilyn wants to fight! John thinks going to gaol for two years is better than for life.

Roo and her secret, young lover James happily canoodle. Roo’s surprised how much James is into her, being an older woman and all, but James doesn’t care about the age difference. Roo tries to hide James in her room when Morag unexpectedly shows up, but Morag sniffs Roo’s secret out in no time. Morag’s concerned about James’ age, he’s the same age as Roo’s daughter Martha! Roo argues that they’re both adults and she doesn’t care, age doesn’t matter – but then why was she trying to take James to Yabbie Creek for dinner instead of a local restaurant? Upset, Roo cuts deep – at least she’s trying not to end up alone and bitter like Morag. In the morning, Roo worries about the age difference to James. The gossip. Not to mention James lives hours away. James insists there’s no problem and Roo gives in. James makes her happy.

Dr Chung informs Tori she needs to fire a doctor from ED due to budget cuts. Tori doesn’t sleep well that night, she doesn’t want to fire anyone. The next day, she tells Chung no one deserves to lose their job, she can’t make a decision based on performance. They’ll have to make a decision based on who’s costing the hospital the most money then. The decision comes down to Nate and another doctor. Tori exclaims, she can’t fire Nate. Chung wonders why not, he’s one of their highest paid, he’ll also find another job easily. Chung announces the decision is made and hands Tori Nate’s file, she’ll leave Tori to inform him.
