Extended Summary
VJ confronts Zac about cheating on Leah. Zac confesses he slept with Sam after Billie’s funeral. Can Zac ever make up for his mistake? Hunter’s shocked to learn Zac cheated on Leah and has a go at Zac about it. He’s really stuffed it for them both if Leah doesn’t take him back. Hunter tries to be objective and tells VJ he thinks Zac is really sorry, but VJ’s not ready to hear excuses. Zac apologises to VJ for cheating on Leah. But it’s too late for VJ. VJ orders Zac out of the house, but Zac’s not willing to walk away. VJ will never forgive Zac for this. Hunter, having watched the argument, leaves his dad to marinate on his poor decisions alone. Hunter feels stuck in the middle of VJ and Zac. He hates what Zac’s done, but he can’t turn his back on his father. Irene’s glad he can stay at hers, away from the drama.
Roo’s been giddily receiving texts from a ‘James’ and ignores a call from him when Irene arrives at the Diner. Irene picks up Roo’s ringing phone and sees it’s a call from James. Irene assumes it’s Roo’s “horrible ex James,” but Roo insists it’s a different guy, the real estate agent. Irene doesn’t believe that for one second. When Roo avoids talking about her holiday in Hawaii, Irene gossips with Marilyn that she thinks Roo’s found a bloke, her horrible ex James! They can’t figure out why Roo would go back to “Dr Two Phones” after what he did to her last time. At the Pier Apartment, Roo spruces herself up to receive a visitor. It’s new James – not her awful ex! He’s brought wine and he’s very young. She can’t believe he’s here, but he couldn’t stay away. They kiss. Roo’s got a secret younger man!
John and Marilyn can’t afford to use Morag for John’s case and have been appointed a Legal Aid defence lawyer. Marilyn’s full of hope and desperation, organising John’s appointments, character references and outfits. John’s in a bit of denial. He’s got two weeks until the trial, plenty of time. Maz worries about how laid back John is being to Irene and Roo. They convince her to force him to face what’s happening. Maz, done up to the nines, is furious when John shows up for his meeting with the lawyer with only 30 minutes to spare and covered in gunk from cleaning the Surf Club’s jetskis. John admits he just doesn’t want to face reality. He’s scared. John and Maz meet the lawyer, Lachlan Piers, who arrives on a bicycle. Marilyn worries about Lachlan’s professionalism to Irene and Roo, he doesn’t seem very interested in the case. Lachlan advises John that because he wants to plead not guilty, he should use an ‘insane’ defence. John argues he’s not insane, he just had a brain tumour. Lachlan doesn’t care if John’s guilty or innocent, he just needs to mount a good defence. John cottons on, he’s not putting this on, it’s the truth! Watching on, Roo makes a call to someone for help… and later, Morag arrives to save John’s bacon! She’s on the case!
