Extended Summary
The Morgans continue to prepare for the engagement party tonight. Brody’s in a better mood and apologises to Raffy for yelling at her yesterday. He’s keen to get on the pre-drinking wagon. Everyone’s happy. At the party, Brody flirts with Donna, offering to cook her dinner at Salt, but Donna’s got a boyfriend. He’s just made an idiot of himself and escapes to the bathroom. Later, Justin catches Brody downing some beer outside but Brody brushes it off, he’s just having a good time. Later, Justin double checks Brody hasn’t taken anything, and Brody tells him to relax, just a few too many beers. Then he heads for the bathroom again. He splashes his face with cold water and stares at himself in the mirror. Brody’s struggling.
Donna arrives for the engagement party, she’s keen to hear Phoebe sing. Phoebe makes a speech and sings a song to Justin. While Phoebe sings, Donna tells Justin he should push Phoebe to get out there, she doesn’t want to see Phoebe turn her back on her dreams. Food for thought. Donna’s impressed by Phoebe’s performance and encourages her to record it and send it out to some indie labels. Donna’s not giving up on Phoebe’s music career just yet, is she getting through to her? Justin asks Phoebe if she wants to tour and make music like Donna, he just wants her to be happy. Phoebe declares she is happy, but when Justin moves away, she’s obviously thinking about it.
Tori’s shaken after her meeting with Doctor Chung. Nate notes she’s a bit off but Tori avoids talking about it. Tori unloads her work concerns to Justin. She can’t get someone else to fire Nate because the hospital doesn’t know Tori and Nate are together. Nate won’t let it go with Tori, annoying her at the party. Justin convinces Tori to break the news to him. Nate worries that Chung’s trying to get rid of Tori, but Tori eventually confesses Chung wants Tori to fire Nate.
James wants to check out Summer Bay, but Roo’s reluctant to be seen around town. James asks if she feels weird about being seen with him. Roo just thinks they can have more fun at home. James won’t argue with that. Morag has an awkward run in with James at the apartment. Morag advises James not to get too attached to Roo, asking him why he thinks Roo’s hiding him away? James doesn’t think Roo’s convinced that he’s right for her, but Roo just wants them to get to know each other without everyone else becoming involved. She knows it’s not what James expected, but he reluctantly agrees to do it her way for now.
Morag’s disappointed that John’s decided to take the plea bargain, he’s totally railroaded Marilyn into accepting his decision. John’s not budging, Morag can’t guarantee success in court. Morag hopes he finds the courage to reconsider. Marilyn confides in Roo. She understands John’s logic, but is annoyed he didn’t even ask her. She would have talked him out of it! She’s stood by John every inch of the way, but the minute she asks him to do something for her and their future, he won’t do it. A sentence for John is a sentence for both of them. After some counselling from Roo, John admits to Morag and Maz that they were both right. He’s going to reject the plea bargain and go to trial.
