Extended Summary

Outside the surf club, Tori has told Justin about her falling-out with Nate. Justin does his best to reassure her, suggesting Nate might have calmed down and advising her to go and see him. Brody approaches and Justin comments that he looks like the walking dead. Brody claims he just did too much celebrating the previous night although Justin’s expression suggests he isn’t convinced. Down on the beach, Kat apologises to Phoebe for missing the party. Phoebe says she was out doing cool police work (although Kat says it was just spot checks) and makes a joke about Catwoman that makes them both cringe. She then explains about Donna being there and notes Donna’s living the life Phoebe always thought she’d have. Kat tells her to go and do it herself. Justin, who has snuck up on them, agrees but Phoebe recalls how badly things went with Neve and doesn’t want to try it.

Tori goes to the beach house with a coffee for Nate but he says he’s already had one. Tori says his being dismissed was simply a cost-saving exercise and also reveals that she left the choice to Bernice. She says she didn’t feel she could be impartial but Nate thinks she should have done her job and that because of their relationship she didn’t make the argument for someone else to go instead. Tori heads to Salt and confides in Mason, who thinks she could have chosen a safer course of action than firing her boyfriend. Brody comes past and snaps at Tori for eating there for free.

Tori arrives at the hospital and runs into Nate. Nate says he shouldn’t have gone off at her before but also doesn’t want to discuss it at work. Apparently oblivious to a nurse listening in, they argue about the fact that Tori has made it difficult for Nate to find another job. Tori goes to see Bernice and tells her they made the wrong decision. She doesn’t think anyone should go, but if someone has to then it should be Anna Griffin, who’s only a part-time consultant but costs them lots of money.

At Salt, Raffy asks Brody to take her to Yabbie Creek to get some books for her reading list. Brody isn’t keen but says maybe later. He locks himself in the store room and takes a sachet of drugs from his bag but is startled by Mason knocking on the door: He spills most of the drugs and kicks the mess out of view. Mason tells him the delivery guy needs his signature. Later, as they’re unpacking the delivery, Mason wonders what’s up with Brody. Brody tries to claim nothing’s wrong, but the effect is spoiled somewhat when his nose starts bleeding.

Tori approaches Nate and tells him he’s not going to be fired and they’ve found another way to save money. Their conversation is observed by the nurse from before and a colleague. Anna approaches, having heard Tori was looking for her, and Tori calls her into her office. Later, Nate goes to see Tori, having realised Anna’s going instead. He’s not happy about the decision and Tori tells him not to make it any harder. Anna then appears with the ever-present nurse and accuses Tori of throwing her under the bus in order to save her boyfriend.

Justin finds Phoebe at the Diner. She says she’s been on the phone to her mother and needs to set a wedding date. She doesn’t seem too impressed by Justin suggesting Christmas Eve. Justin thinks she’s just trying to distract herself from what Donna said. Phoebe says the real reason she’s reluctant to go back to singing is that last time it put a strain on their relationship. Justin insists it won’t affect them and tells her to do what she wants. At Salt, Mason tells Brody that a customer has sent his meal back, saying the steak is underdone. Brody acts as though it’s the customer’s problem. Mason wants to check him over after the nose bleed but Brody says he has to give Raffy a lift. He then rings Lena and asks to meet.

Tori is summoned in to see Bernice, who has had a complaint from Anna. Tori admits she is seeing Nate but insists it didn’t affect her decision. Bernice says Tori should have informed her of all the facts and removed herself from the process. She will have to refer the matter to HR and says it’s unlikely Tori will get to keep her position. Tori runs into Nate and gives him an update, saying she’s screwed up. Nate goes in to see Bernice and says he’s accepting the redundancy. Bernice is happy to agree, since it will simplify things. Tori is astonished and Nate replies that she was willing to risk her career for him so it was only fair for him to do the same for her. Tori hugs him but his expression suggests he is still less than happy.

Brody is waiting outside the surf club when he is approached by a young man, Zannis, who says Lena sent him and he has what Brody needs. Brody is uncomfortable but eventually steps out of view with Zannis and buys drugs off him. He gets into his van, intending to take the drugs there, but Raffy bangs on the window; Mason told her Brody was giving her a lift. Brody tries to send her to get some juices but Raffy wants to go before the shops close so Brody puts the drugs in his pocket.

Up in Salt, Phoebe tells Justin she’s arranged to meet Donna. Mason tells them about Brody giving Raffy a lift and his odd behaviour, including the nose bleed. Justin is obviously concerned but doesn’t say anything in front of Phoebe or Mason. Phoebe goes to join Donna, who asks Phoebe to open for her in America. They head outside with Donna saying she needs an answer by five. They hug goodbye. Justin follows Phoebe out and she explains Donna wants her to tour with her for a week. However, she’s uncertain about saying yes.

Raffy is playing about with the radio channels, irritating Brody. They see a police spot check ahead and Kat gestures for them to get into the line of cars waiting to be checked. Instead, Brody turns the car round and speeds in the opposite direction. Kat and other officers get in the police car and chase after them.
