Extended Summary

Leah is stunned after Peter Baker’s revelation that Vinnie is not only alive and in witness, protection, he wants her to come live with him! Leah asks for time to think before Peter calls Vinnie. That won’t be a problem; Peter can’t remember Vinnie’s phone number!

Jesse and Josie are having dinner at the Diner, and they’re in their own world. It’s the first time we’ve seen the two of them interact in this soft and energetic way. Gone is the edgy flirtatious banter of the past. Josie has finally lowered her defences, which makes her very vulnerable – it’s evidence of how special the relationship is to her.

Jesse promises not to hurt her. Leah comes home to Dan Baker. She tells him her commitment has not changed. Vinnie is not a part of her life, but she does owe him an explanation, a proper goodbye, and a chance to see his son. Dan says he’s fine with that. Tomorrow he needs to get a few explanations of his own from Peter. Leah says she’s fine with that as well. Later that night, we see Peter finally remember Vinnie’s number. He calls and says they need to talk about where to go from here.

Tasha’s plan to reunite Jesse and Josie has been a success, and that means she and Robbie can get back together. But Matilda and Henry are furious that Tasha’s plan has foiled their own to turn Beth off men. Robbie and Tasha have to come up with an alternative plan for the two brats by morning. Kim is dismissive of their ideas. He seems to know something they don’t. Robbie and Tasha get a little overheated later on. Robbie says Tasha better go before he loses control. When he’s back in the bedroom, Kim’s girlie poster on the wall tests his resolve once again. It’s tough being celibate. Kim tells him a secret to ease the pressure; once Hyde employs Beth as his secretary, all romantic notions will be off. He would never consort with an employee.

Josie and Jesse spend the night together on the beach. It’s a first for Josie, and Jesse plans to treat to a few more first-time experiences. They are truly in love.

Dan’s visit to Peter is filled with tension. We find out that the two brothers had a bust-up two years ago and haven’t spoken since. Dan came to Summer Bay to mend the relationship. He wants to make up. But when Peter tells him he’s called Vinnie, Dan gets hostile. He wants to know if he did it because he’s operating on the principle of “if I can’t have her – he won’t either” – another reference to their past. But Peter says he made a promise to Vinnie and he had to keep it. Dan still wants to patch up their differences. He found the woman he loves, and now his brother’s come back to him.

Jesse’s great mood is heightened when Leah meets him at the beach and invites him to VJ’s birthday party. She wants to smooth the bitterness between them. Jesse accepts. The reconciliation has begun. But when Peter finds out about VJ’s birthday, he makes a secret call to Vinnie and says the whole thing can be sorted out at the party…
