Extended Summary

An episode of heartbreak and fury for Dani and Scott – while many other Summer Bay couples experience the beauty of new beginnings and renewed bonds.

Dani finally returns home to an anxious Scott. She claims a series of innocent decisions saw her caught in the city for an extra two days. Scott doesn’t think there was any innocence involved. He can only find one scenario for her extended stay – a tryst with Stafford McRae.

Meanwhile Kane and Kirsty are talking of new beginnings. Kane thinks his cancer is punishment for the wrongs he committed in the past. He’s going to come out of it cleansed – a better person, a better partner and eventually…a better father. He’s feeling fitter and is heading in for more chemo. Kirsty thinks that now she’s finished school and Kane is going to work at the bar – the two of them need to renew their love for each other on the beach. They vow that whenever their relationship starts to veer off course, they’ll remember that moment for ever.

Dani can’t believe Scott would even contemplate her sleeping with Stafford; doesn’t he have any trust? But Scott reckons Dani’s past behaviour more than justifies his suspicions. When Stafford calls Dani on her mobile, Scott grabs the phone and barks at him to “Back off, mate!” It’s the last straw for Dani; further evidence that she’s outgrown Scott, and his small town mentality.

Meanwhile Sally and Flynn are celebrating their first clutter-free days in Summer Bay House with a romantic night at home. This is a couple that has struggled through the emotional pitfalls of the surrogacy and arrived on the other side intact. They have a beautiful baby and the chance to start a new era in the house that holds so many beautiful memories for Sally.

Dan files for divorce from his wife. He lets Leah know that as soon as the documents are ratified, he intends to ask for her hand in marriage. Leah is ecstatic – it’s an engagement to be engaged – and she plans to say “yes!”

Hayley is watching on helplessly from the sideline as Dani and Scott lurch from bad to worse. Scott discovers an SMS from Stafford on Dani’s phone. It says, “You can do better…” He thinks it’s a personal attack on him. Unfortunately…it was a reference to Dani’s last draft of her book. Dani blasts Scott with such fury for his ignorance and distrust that he delivers her an ultimatum: either the book goes, or he does. Dani’s hesitation tells him all he needs to know. He announces with terrifying calmness that the engagement is off; she should leave. If she hasn’t changed her mind by the time he gets back from work, their life together is over. He walks out the door, slamming it shut on Dani…and possibly their relationship.
