***

SWIMMING POOL
Kim is on a training session with Jesse, and Jesse seems to be pushing him, to say the least. Jesse has to leave mid-session, and Kim remarks that he has been on “another planet” all morning, before bringing up the topic of Jesse moving out of Leah’s. Jesse bluntly tells him that there was a reason he didn’t mention it himself, sets Kim off doing another ten laps, and departs.

THE PALACE
The large cop tells Dani that there’s no evidence that Felix broke the AVO – the phone he used was a public one, and strictly speaking it could have been anyone. The cops recommend that Dani try recording the calls in future. Jesse arrives home to find Noah eavesdropping on the goings on in the other room, and Noah updates him on the situation – basically, there’s nothing the cops can do. There’s no proof, therefore it’s Dani’s word against Felix’s and Felix is going to get away with it. Again.

DINER
Alf enquires as to Kirsty’s wellbeing, and Flynn explains that more tests are being done. Colleen blames it all on the hormones wreaking havoc. Leah floats through, also asking after Kirsty, and recieves an almost identical answer from Flynn. Funny that. He then asks after her, and it is clear that things are still awkward between them. Nonetheless, Leah updates him on the Jesse situation – they’ve decided to give it another go, and the pair of them revert to an awkward silence once more. Flynn reckons she can’t wait for “the whole thing” (ie the surrogacy) to be over, and she seems incapable of giving him a straight answer. Colleen promptly intervenes with Flynn’s coffee, continuing to hover around until Flynn is able to drop a large enough hint. Flynn offers Leah the chance to talk – if the Jesse thing isn’t what she wants – but she rejects him.

BEACH HOUSE
Kane is in a fluster as he packs a bag for Kirsty, concerned about why Flynn has asked to see him. Irene is unsuccessful in her attempts to calm him down, and he is convinced that it’s serious – otherwise Flynn would have told him over the phone. Irene wags her finger at him, telling him “now don’t you go crossing your chickens before they’re hatched”, before exclaiming that she’s starting to turn into Colleen. Kane continues to toss Kirsty’s things into a bag, in a way that only a bloke could as Irene tries to convince him to calm down and breathe. He doesn’t have time for such luxuries though, as he sums up that he has everything – “Night stuff, face stuff, keys” – before departing.

As he leaves, Kim arrives, fresh from his training session. Irene mentions that he had a phone call from Brooke – she left her number and wants him to call her. Kim does so, but hangs up on her answer phone, so Irene calls him a goose and tells him to call back and leave a message. He does.

DINER
Colleen jabbers to Leah on about how devastated she was when she thought she had lost Norman, how in love she now is, and how finding the right one is the most important thing. She then invites Alf to share his romance secrets, and after a great deal of pestering he comes up with some advice – “if the two of you can sit down together and watch the rugby without having to talk, then you’ve got it made”. As he leaves, Colleen exclaims that she didn’t think Ailsa liked rugby… and it was fishing with Maureen.

Jesse and Leah exchange awkward greetings as she comes in for a coffee, and somehow she manages to drop “I wish I could hold you” into the conversation. He smiles politely as Colleen intervenes, unusually worried about some quiches they have, as it’s not quiche weather and she doesn’t reckon they’ll sell. She helpfully suggests that they take the quiches on a picnic lunch. Subtle. Jesse reckons that quiches would go nicely with coffee, and invites Leah to join him.

HOSPITAL
Kane scurries in to find Flynn, desperate to know what is going on. Flynn wants to speak to both he and Kirsty together, and he comes to the conclusion that it’s really bad.

Flynn explains to Kirsty and Kane that there were also a large amount of toxins in her blood, and the tests show that she has a kidney disease. He tells them that she needs to have a biopsy so they can find out more, and although Kane is quick to reply “we’ll do it”, Kirsty wants more details. She doesn’t look too enthusiastic when she is told she’ll be put under anasthetic and they’ll be removing some of her kidney. She decides that she doesn’t want to do it.

Outside, Flynn makes it clear to Kane that Kirsty needs a biopsy, and she needs one now. Kane agrees to keep talking to her, before asking Flynn what HE thinks is wrong. Flynn doesn’t want to say anything until he’s sure, especially as Kirsty doesn’t need more stress – her blood pressure’s high enough as it is. Kane agrees not to say anything to kirsty, but he just needs to know. Flynn reluctantly says that it’s serious – so much so that Kirsty may need to go on dialysis. It is determined that this means Kirsty will be hooked up to a machine that does the work of her kidneys, and is quick to tell Kane that she can still go on dialysis when she is pregnant. Kane agrees to do whatever it takes to get Kirsty to agree to the biopsy.

BREAK

ROCKS
Leah and Jesse invade KK’s rocks for their picnic, and find Colleen has packing “enough food for a small army”. As silence strikes, Leah decides to tell him of Alf’s theory – if you can sit in silence and not have to say anything then you’ve got a really good relationship. She neglects to mention the rugby. Jesse points out that she just managed to break the silence, and they joke about Leah’s big mouth. They decide to take things between them one step at a time, before Jesse rushes off to relieve Hayley at the gym. They conclude that it was fun spending time together – like old times, he kisses her on the cheek and departs.

HOSPITAL
Kane finds Kirsty packing her bags, determined to leave the hospital. Kane tries to stop her, so she drops her bag and darts off along the hospital corridor. He pursues her, telling her that she NEEDS the biopsy to find out what is wrong with her, but she is terrified about putting their baby at risk. Flynn overhears, and is quick to respond that she wouldn’t be putting her child at risk – if anything, she’d be risking she and the baby MORE if she just ignored her problems. Kirsty asks Flynn outright whether she will die, and he avoids the question, pleaing for her to at least stay at the hospital so they can see what they’re dealing with. Kirsty calms down and looks tearily at Flynn and Kane in turn, before she and Kane hug.

OUTSIDE SURF CLUB (or thereabouts)
Leah tells Hayley of the ‘mixed signals’ she was recieving from Jesse – they did a lot of talking, but at points it was really awkward, as if Jesse didn’t want to be there. He didn;t mention anything to Hayley when he got back to work, and Leah suggests that perhaps they just aren’t able to go back like Hayley and Alex weren’t. Hayley points out that she and Noah have gone back, and Leah wonders if it’s just her.

Kim walks up to them, wondering if they know the whereabouts of Tasha and Robbie, and Hayley ‘helpfully’ tells him that they were in the diner a few hours ago. Kim is distracted by the sight of a woman and baby in the distance, and he wanders off towards them. Brooke has brought Charlie to meet his Dad, and Kim looks as stoked as he can.

THE PALACE
Noah and Dani talk weddings, Noah explaining that he wants his wedding to be about the people and places that matter to them (ie. not his mother or churches). They are interrupted by a smell, which Noah protests isn’t him. A delivery guy arrives on the doorstep, announcing that he has left Dani’s ton of manure outside for them. Noah insists that they didn’t order any manure, despite it having been delivered to the correct address. Dani has an explanation – Felix.

HOSPITAL
Kane and Kirsty prove Alf’s theory as they sit in silence for a while. He wonders if she wants anything, but she is unresponsive, rigid in her bed. He assures her that he would never let anyone hurt her, but she is still terrified. He explains that Flynn wouldn’t be insisting on the biopsy if it wasn’t important, and upon hearing her worries about something happening to the baby, he promises her that nothing will happen to she or the baby. She tearily agrees to the biopsy.

BEACH HOUSE
Kim is catching up with Brooke, and getting aquainted with his son. He reckons she must really have hated him to go through it all on his own, and she admits that she did, and explains that although she made the appointment to have an abortion, she was unable to go through with it. He insists that although he didn’t want to be a father at the time, he would have got his head around it eventually, and is surprised to hear that her own parents rejected her and left she and Charlie on their own. However, it seems (Mr Barry) Hyde was the perfect grandad, and they couldn’t have done it without him. Kim is still bitter at his Dad for keeping it a secret, but Brooke is quick to defend Hyde – he was just protecting his son. Kim didn’t want to be protected, though, and apologises sincerely to Brooke, presumably for not being there.

THE PALACE
Noah and Dani are suffering the stench of manure as Noah obviously states that Felix has broken the conditions of the AVO this time. They realise just how unstable he is, being all over the place with his revenge – one minute Scott’s ‘dead’, and the next it’s a childish manure prank. Jesse arrives with the obvious questions about the manure, and is surprised how well Dani is taking uit all… until Noah quietly informs him that Dani doesn’t yet know she’s being billed for the manure. Jesse discusses with Noah his lunch with Leah, and how there is “something in the way” that stops them going back to the way things were. Jesse can’t, and doesn’t want to, try and explain it, and Noah brings up Flynn. Although Jesse is adamant that there is nothing going on between Leah and Flynn, Noah compares it to how there was “nothing going on between Josh and Hayley”. Noah uses his counsellor tactics, pointing out that Leah loves him and he shouldn’t let jealousy eat him up, but Jesse coldly tells him that he doesn’t want a counselling session. Jesse departs, pausing at the door to prepare himself for the delights of the manure.

BEACH HOUSE
Charlie has wound up on Kane and Kirsty’s bed, with Kim, Brooke and Kane watching him thoughtfully from the door. Irene reminds Kim of the “team building exercise” that he has with Hyde later on. As Kim and Brooke sidle off to share a large plate of sandwiches, Irene enquires as to Kane’s wellbeing. He relieved that she’s having a biopsy, but has interpreted what Flynn told him as a possibility that Kirsty could be hooked up to a machine for the rest of her life. Irene is shocked, and quick to reassure him that it won’t happen as she joins Kane by the doorframe to he and Kirsty’s room. He glumly watches Charlie on the bed.

DINER
Jesse arrives to see Leah at work, and heads straight into the kitchen to give Leah something he forgot at lunch. Her kisses her, but in the hug that follows, Jesse isn’t looking as over the moon as one might expect.

GYM
Noah is still resisting the idea of a church wedding, telling Hayley that it ought to be somewhere that means something to them – not somewhere that people expect weddings to be. As they agree to be married in “this place” (presumably not the gym itself), Hayley swiftly breaks the calmness that follows by mentioning the wedding and Noah’s mother in the same breath. He is still set against it, and she moves the conversation on to the reception – they still want it at the surf club.

Jesse walks in, and the greeting are blunt. Noah apologises for the earlier therapy session, and Hayley makes herself scarce. Jesse explains that he kissed Leah, but only so they could get “back to basics”. He tells Noah that it didn’t feel right at all, and that he can’t get thoughts of Flynn and Leah out of his head. He doesn’t know where to go from there, and Noah tells him that he MUST be honest with Leah – it’s the only way they’re going to get through. Jesse wonders what will happen if he can’t get past it.

BEACH HOUSE
Kim is keen to keep seeing Brooke and Charlie, despite she thinking that he doesn’t need the committment. He wants to do the right thing, and she admits that there’s no one else BUT they didn’t think the baby was a good enough reason to stay together last time – and it isn’t any different now. She grabs Charlie and prepares to leave, with Irene assuring her that she’s welcome anytime. Kane is busy just staring at Charlie, but scarpers when Brooke offers him a cuddle. Irene also makes herself scarce as Kim and Brooke go to bid their farewells. He thanks her for everything – the day has been great, and says goodbye to his son.
