Extended Summary
Olivia follows Hunter from the beach towards the surf club, tearfully saying that she was drunk and upset and had just lost the contract. Hunter says she wouldn’t even have the job without him. He asks how many times she slept with Axel. Olivia says only once while they were together and Hunter picks up on the implication that it was on afterwards. He starts angrily berating her until Leah appears and ushers him away. Mason also appears and asks Olivia if she’s okay but she walks away without saying anything. At the school, Roo is teaching the Year 11s about the Kennedy assassination. She asks if anyone knows what happened to Lee Harvey Oswald; a few put their hands up and Raffy answers. Ryder shows Coco a cartoon he’s done and Jennifer asks what happened to hers. Roo goes to the doorway to chat to Maggie and thinks Ryder is concentrating. Maggie suspects Ben asked Roo to keep an eye on her and mentions Miss Mackenzie has called in sick. Roo offers to take the class but Maggie insists she will.
Leah takes Hunter to the Diner but he is uninterested in eating and wants to talk to Irene. He tells her Olivia cheated on him and she takes him into the kitchen. Hunter starts talking about how he convinced himself nothing was going on, then notices Irene’s expression and realises she knew. Irene is apologetic but Hunter storms out. At the beach house, a phone on the table (presumably Olivia’s) display a message from Mason asking “Are you OK?” Irene comes home and calls out for Olivia. She hears running water in the bathroom: Olivia is sitting in the shower, staring into space as the water pours over her. Irene comes in and tries to reassure her.
At the police station, McCarthy is accosted by Alf and John, who want to talk about the River Boys. He asks if they want to make a formal complaint, before saying that he finds them annoying as well but that’s not a crime. John seems to take his ironic offer to run them out of town seriously while Alf thinks he should keep an eye on them. McCarthy says they’re stretched thin and the only reinforcement he’s likely to get is the replacement for Kat he requested. At the gym, Raffy turns up to see Mason. He notes he’s too busy to get lunch but she says she’s brought her own. Mason asks if she’s seen Justin; they both agree he’s acting weird and hiding something. Mason sees Taz and Bluey bothering a client, asking her if she’s seen Robbo, and gets them to clear a path to let her leave. The pair show the photo to Mason, who says he hasn’t seen Robbo since the car crash, then try to quiz Raffy, who Mason sends to school. He asks them to leave. Taz says they want a workout. Mason says it’s members only but Taz points out it says on the wall they offer free trials.
Olivia is now sat at the table, wearing a dressing gown, but still somewhat withdrawn. Irene tries to bring her out of herself and Olivia notes Irene was right about Axel and her career and Hunter. She thinks she’s ruined everything. Irene thinks she should give it time, saying Hunter adores her. Olivia says not anymore. At the school, Ben turns up with Maggie’s lunch but she says she’s already eaten in the cafeteria and suspects he’s just there to check up on her. Coco watches them from round the corner while Raffy, Ryder and Jennifer banter nearby. Coco approaches Ben as he leaves, wondering if he’s there because the results have come, but Ben assures her they haven’t.
At the gym, Mason catches Taz and Bluey hassling another female client and tells them the trial is over. Taz says they have a job to do but Mason stands his ground and the River Boys leave. Back at school, Maggie tells the class they have ten more minutes. As she wanders around checking on students, Ryder and Jennifer giggle over some drawings. Maggie notices and asks Ryder to show her what he’s working on. Ryder refuses and he and Maggie engage in a short battle of wills until Coco blurts out that he’s been doing cartoons and distracting everyone. As they exit the class, Raffy and Jennifer are amused at how quickly Ryder got in trouble with the principal but Coco is unimpressed and ends up shouting at Ryder. Maggie steps in and Ryder apologises for being rude. Maggie takes Coco aside. Coco admits she’s worried about her and Maggie promises the test results haven’t come.
Irene greets Hunter as he arrives back at the beach house, trying to convince him that Olivia’s sorry and also mentioning Mason called to check on him. Hunter says he’s just there to get his things. Irene says she tried to get Olivia to tell him but Hunter isn’t impressed that she let him go ahead with the proposal. Olivia (now dressed) comes downstairs and tells him not to blame Irene. She tries to get him to talk to her but Hunter tells her to move; she complies and he goes upstairs. At the Diner, Marilyn serves Alf, Roo and Ryder a celebratory meal to mark Roo and Ryder’s first day. Ryder isn’t enthusiastic about his own work but tells Roo she smashed it. Coco comes in and sits with Raffy. She tells her Maggie might be really ill and she’s worried about her.
Irene and Olivia are waiting downstairs. Olivia begs Irene to get Hunter to stay. Irene thinks there’s no chance of that now but Olivia thinks if he goes then that’s it. Hunter comes down but carries on walking out, ignoring Olivia’s entreaties and Irene’s offer to call Leah or Alf. Olivia runs away, upset. Hunter goes to the bait shop: He lets himself in, puts his bags down and then sits on the floor.
Mason is exiting the surf club when Taz and Bluey appear, standing either side of him. Mason tries to calm the situation but they end up pushing him about between them. A stranger, Colby, steps in and suggests the River Boys go now things are even. Instead, the fight begins in earnest; Colby scuffles with Taz while Mason fights Bluey. At the farm house, Ben is cooking chicken curry and Maggie tells him to go easy on the curry this time. Coco arrives and watches them fondly for a few moments before making her presence known. She goes to her room to study. Ben suggests calling Tori before accepting they need to wait.
John flags down a police car as the fight continues outside the surf club, as Alf also arrives. Mason gets Bluey in the hold as McCarthy and two other officers intervene, separating Colby and Taz. Mason says they jumped him. McCarthy restrains Colby and seems set to arrest him too but Mason explains he helped him out. The other officers take Taz and Bluey away as McCarthy asks Colby who he is. Colby produces a police badge and introduces himself as Senior Constable Colby Thorne. Alf wryly welcomes him to the bay.
