NEIGHBOURS looks set to have its first gay couple, with former Home and Away star Bob Morley joining the cast.

Morley plays male nurse Aidan Foster, a love interest for gay character Chris Pappas, who is played by James Mason.

While there have been gay characters in Aussie soaps before, as far as a couple is concerned it is a first for Neighbours and possibly the country.

At this stage Morley's role is for six months, but it could be extended.

The actor said the fact his character is gay didn't make a different to him signing on to Neighbours.

"I don't see it as a big deal that the character is gay,"he said.

"It certainly doesn't define him and what the writers have planned is really interesting and authentic."

Neighbours executive producer Susan Bower said it was a natural progression for the character played by Mason to eventually have a love interest.

"To be true to the Chris character, now he is a regular in storylines, we knew at some stage he needed to meet someone," she said. "How it unfolds, all will be revealed, however I think viewers will find the story compelling."

I may be the only one who's excited for this storyline?

I know he slagged off h&a but this is neighbours, something different. I do wonder how all the family groups will respond to this though since they all hated Jarlie.

See, after Bobby left H&A I was a bit disappointed with the way he spoke about his experience on the show, however, this quote almost makes up for all of that. It reminds me so much of how Darren Criss talks about being on Glee and playing Blaine. That the sexuality of a character shouldn't matter, it's about an honest portrayal of a person. Having said that, I'm excited for this kind of storyline, as long as it isn't played for publicity. I think that was my problem with the Joey/Charlie thing on the show. It was just so overexposed and unfounded, there was no ground work there for it to be an honest relationship, so hopefully this one works out better. I haven't watched Neighbours in forever, but this might just intrigue me enough to get my interest back.

H&A take notes.

You aren't the only one Loz! See my avatar LOL! I replied to Kevin's post about this storyline, my thoughts are on there. I think this could potentially be a major career boost for Bob/by. IF the storyline is as history making as they say it will be...

Sorrry I disliked the Amanda & Drew pairing! Lol. Thought it was a bit gross. Seeing as how he was with Belle her daughter and she ended up with his dad!

No. what I meant was that is the only picture of Drew I could find on the BTTB avatar list. I wanted one of Drew on his own, but there wasn't one :(

Yes, it was a weird pairing.
