Just wonder how old everyone was when they first started learning how to drive. How did it go? How did it feel? Did get into any accidents? Would you consider yourself a careful driver or the opposite? Who taught you to drive? Discuss experiences here please, it would be interesting to find out :)

I'm 21 and hoping to get my Learners in the next few weeks, I could have got it when I was 15 but I think that the current licensing age is far too young here in NZ. I'll be getting lessons from the AA, then maybe Mum and Dad might let me drive when I am with them. Hopefully I won't have any accidents,my older brother almost drove into a bus when he had his learners.

I've had my learners since I was 16. Im 20 now and I still have it  I dont drive very often to practice. Im going to try get my licence soon though. It's embarrassing when everyone else already has theirs and im still learning lol. I guess I just havnt wanted it badly enough. I actually dont like driving. But it would be handy if I did have my licence.

I'm allowed to get my learners now, but i haven't gotten around to it yet. I want it but i haven't gotten around to studying the road code, I'm too lazy  all my friends have their learners. I'm the odd one out. But when i do get my licence i plan on getting defensive driving lessons. :)

Im 26 and have only just got my learners. lol. Just the thought of driving makes me nervous as hell. So I just kept putting it off. The good thing is, I dont have to do the 100 hours logging now because im over 25, and when I get my P's, I can go straight to P2; which is good. In the mean time I just drive my moped around. They're fun!!

Well I'm fifteen and I can drive. I've been wanting to learn how to drive for at least two years and now finally my dad taught me. Like I said I said I've been wanting it for a long time but when I sat to the driver's seat I wasn't that enthusiastic about it anymore :D It seemed so scary and I was afraid that I'm gonna crash the car into a tree or something, but luckily I didn't and everything turned out pretty good. My leg cramped a bit, but not anymore.

Unfortunately I can't have my learners until I'm sixteen, but I'm gonna be in the next few months

Im 19 and have a full licence. i passed my test first time in april after 8 months on a learner permit. i had a great experience but i know i was i was very lucky as my dad was a really good teacher, really paitent! and i got lessons too. i would advise anyone learning to always be thinking of what you need to do right for the test, it stops you picking up bad habbits that wont help you pass.

^ I agree with that. I was taught by my parents when I was 16/17, even though I really didn't want to learn to drive. Weird, right? but I'm glad my mum forced me behind the wheel because once I was out of school it was so awesome to be able to drive myself to uni/friend's places/work etc. So, my advice would be make sure you at least get a few lessons through a driving school because (in Australia at least) they tell you what you need to do/know to pass the test :).

bay girl - Wow! 100 hours! That's crazy. Here it is still 25 (I think) but they were talking about increasing it. Personally, I think 25 hours is too little, but 100 seems a bit excessive. But the problem is I know so many people who forge their log books already. So if they increased the amount of hours, people would just be more likely to make it up and not actually do it.
