FALLEN soapie star Jodi Gordon has damaged her relationship with Channel 7 after she successfully pleaded to be released from her contract so she could retreat from the limelight - only to audition for a new Channel 9 drama.

Gordon had two years to run on her contract with Seven for its drama Home And Away after bravely continuing on the show days after she was found cowering with bikie associate Mark Judge at his apartment after an infamous big night out in June.

She was subsequently dumped by her boyfriend Ryan Stokes - son of Seven owner Kerry Stokes - and entered an alcohol rehabilitation program to get her life back on track.

But several senior executive sources at Seven confirmed to Confidential that she told them during the summer production break that she needed a break from acting and fame and wanted to go travelling for a year instead.

"She was in a real state over everything that went on and wanted to be let go. At first she was offered some time off and because she was still contracted to the network we had a right to hold her to it," one source said. "We said she could come back at any time she wanted but she was really stressed so we ended up letting her go."

But on January 31, two days after it was announced she was leaving Seven, it emerged Gordon had been to auditions for Channel 9's new drama Cops LAC to star with former co-star Kate Ritchie.

"It felt like a kick in the teeth when we found out," another Seven source said.

A Nine spokeswoman confirmed Gordon had auditioned for different roles on the show but had not yet been cast, with Ritchie the only signing so far.

Gordon's management RGM Associates would not comment yesterday.

I gotta say, Seven get over it. Sorry but Jodi can do whatever she wants with her life, if she wants to leave Seven then go audition for 9 then so be it, and I don't really care if there is a contract involved. If she's had a hard time in her life and wanted to leave then so what, she should able to.

If you ask to be released from a contract with one company, citing a personal reasons, and then you do the opposite of those personal reason you claimed, Seven could pursue her or Nine for "damages".

For example, Simon Jordan, the Crystal Palace chairman allowed him manager Iain Dowie to leave the job as Dowie claimed he wanted to move North again. A week later, he was manager of Charlton, about five miles north of Crystal Palace.

Jordan successfully claimed in the High Court that was this just a fraud to stop Charlton having to pay the compensation required to buy Dowie, whereas if say Blackburn had come in, he wouldn't have.

So another story about how her time at H&A came to an end

I agree with loz though, if she wants to leave and go to a different show then thats her business, although she shouldn't have said she wanted a break from TV in the limelight then auditioned straight away for something else.

Don't forget this is the same paper that originally said it was a "mutual" decision for her to leave, then the following day said she was "fired" and is now going on about a role that there has been no confirmed acceptance on. Don't even get me started on how many times they've been wrong when it comes to romantic details.

Yeah, how "brave" of her to go back to a high profile, high paying job she was contracted to do after she'd been busted taking drugs. What a trooper.

Sorry but this doesn't make much sense and as I tried to point out before just further contradicts what has previously been said.

If she asked for a break from the show in the summer production break in June/July last year then are we to believe she was told she could have a break but not until the end of February this year when she stops filming?! Surely the whole point of wanting a break in a situation like that is to have it sooner rather than later and not months down the line when you are feeling much better about your life?! Why say you want to go travelling for a year and then immediately and allegedly go into an alcohol rehabilitation programme instead?

A couple of weeks ago we are told that Jodi has quit the show of her own accord and a gushy statement is issued by Channel 7 saying something like "Jodi will always be part of the Channel 7 family and has our love and support going forward". Presumably they didn't mean a word of this then.

A few days later we are told Channel 7 made the decision to terminate her contract because Kerry Stokes wanted her out of the network. If they wanted her out of the network and it was their choice to end her contract why would they be bothered about her moving to Channel 9?

Now we are being told that Channel 7 said she could have a break (at some unspecified time) and come back any time she liked and now they feel like they have been kicked in the teeth because she went to another Network? So this means that they did not decide to terminate her contract then if they are now feeling so aggrieved?! Are we to believe she deliberately deceived them then? Of course we are because heaven forbid we should have a positive thought about the girl.

I am sick of all of these stories and counter stories and find it unfortunate that so many just take them as all being the gospel truth and forget the contradictions these stories contain, choosing only to remember the most recent one written. As I have said before I hope we do get to hear from Jodi herself at some point about what happened as presumably she knows better than some tabloid journalist trying to sell papers.

Until that point the only truth out there at the moment is that the Australian tabloid press have conducted a witch hunt against this girl for months now that I find unacceptable. What she did (and we still don't actually know what that was) wasn't funny, clever or admirable but she is not the Anti Christ or a serial killer. She took a wrong path, did something stupid and for the last few months really seems to have got her act together and turned things around so deserves some credit for that. She does not deserve to be villified for the rest of her life.

Maybe she should take a year long break now - I for one wouldn't blame her if she did.

In the meantime, would anyone like to hazard a guess as to what rubbish is going to written about Jodi next week? As long as it's something negative the tabloids don't really care do they?

Presumably because she is the terrible person that we keep being told she is we won't be seeing any pictures on the official Home and Away website of her last day on set - she won't be getting a farewell cake or photo collection like others that have left. In fact her departure won't get any features on the official site because Channel 7 will veto it - because she doesn't really have "their love and support" right? Presumably this site won't want to have any features on her departure either because of the loathesome individual she is right?
