Or would you prefer staying in?” Jodi looks at Jon seriously and he wraps his arms around her. “I don’t know… I guess we could go out if that’s what you want…” “I feel like dancing. But if you’re not up for it, it’s perfectly fine then we can just stay in and watch a movie or something…” “No, if you want to dance we go and dance. I’m not that old yet!” Jodi laughs and kisses his shoulder. “Not what I meant! You’ve had a bad day, and…” “And some dancing is just what I need.” Jodi looks at him with a grin. “You sure?” “Of course I am.” Kate looks up when there is a loud knock on her door and slowly walks forward. Darin is standing in the door with a bunch of flowers, looking at her guiltily. “Kate… I’m sorry I hit you. It was inexcusable. You just made me so angry. I couldn’t help myself. I brought you flowers.” She takes the flowers automatically, looking at him blankly and he sighs. “Oh, don’t be mad, Kate. Let’s go out!” He grabs her hand and drags her out the door. Kate walks with him silently, feeling like she’s already too deep in the mess to get out of it. “Oh, look! Here’s Kate!” Jon grins when Kate enters the club, waving at her. He frowns when he spots Darin behind her. “With some guy I have never seen before.” Jodi looks at Darin curiously. “He’s cute… Good for her!” “Let’s ask them to join us. If it’s okay with you.” Jodi nods happily. “Of course it is!” Kate bites her lip when she sees her friends. “Darin, maybe we should go somewhere else.” “Why? You don’t want me to meet your friends? Are you ashamed of me?” “Of course not, but…” “Good. Let’s go.” He takes her arm in a steel grip and drags her to Jodi and Jon. Kate smiles at them unconvincingly. “Hey guys.” Jon grins at her and motions to the chair opposite him. “Sit down!” Kate slides in behind the table, attracting a weird look from Jodi. She ignores it, however, and tries to smile happily. Until she spots Paul and Sharni coming in… “Look, there’s Paul and Sharni too! What, is the whole cast here?” Jon laughs and waves at the couple. Paul and Kate share a quick look before he sits down as well, followed by Sharni – who is looking rather pale. Paul looks at Darin with a lifted eyebrow. “So Kate. Aren’t you going to introduce us to your friend?” “Oh, yeah… this is Darin, guys… Darin, this is Paul, Sharni, Jodi and Jon.” Darin holds his hand out to each of the friends, smiling happily. “Guys. Pleased to meet you.” “And then Miss Lizzy said that I had to tell you that you need to start opening your eyes and see what’s in front of you instead of behind you. And I have no idea what that means, but when I asked her, she just said that you should know. Do you?” Chris sighs. “Does Miss Lizzy ever shut up?” Cassidy frowns. “She’s very smart.” “Tell her that she needs to start concentrating on educating children instead of criticizing their parents’ parenting skills. And while you’re at it, tell her that your welfare is not her concern and that I said she needs to get a life.” Cassidy frowns for a while. “I think I should write that down.” “You do that.” “I’m quickly going to the bathroom.” Jon kisses Jodi quickly as he stands up and Darin nods. “Yeah, I need to go too…” Jodi nods and pulls Sharni up. “Shar, let’s hit the dance floor…” Paul looks at Kate intently when all the others have left. “Where did you find him?” “I don’t want to talk about him.” “I don’t think it’s a good idea, Kate. PART 9 Paul looks at Sharni seriously. “I know he seems nice and everything… but there’s just something about him that puts me off. I don’t trust him. And the look in Kate’s eyes when he touched her… it wasn’t love, lust or attraction. It was fear.” Sharni looks at Paul quietly. “You really love her, don’t you?” “What?” “Kate. You love her.” “We’re best friends…” “Right.” Paul sighs and shakes his head. “Okay… but…” She takes his hand and smiles. “It’s all right, Paul. We both know that we’re coming into this relationship with broken hearts.” Paul sighs, tugging her hair playfully. “I could really love you.” She leans over to kiss him softly. “Same here…” Darin kisses Kate passionately, his hand fining her dress’ zipper. She pushes him away, looking at him pleadingly. “Darin, please…” He ignores her, lowering his head to kiss her neck and looks at her angrily when she pushes him away again. “Do that one more time and I will not be held responsible for my actions.” “Darin, please… don’t do this.” He lifts his head, slapping her through her face with force. “Don’t tell me what to do!” Kate touches her cheek, her hands shaking and Darin throws her down on the bed, landing on top of her. He looks at her seriously, his eyes cold and hard. “You will do as I tell you, okay? You belong to me.” “So what do you think about this Darin guy?” Jon looks at Jodi curiously and she shrugs. “I don’t know. He’s handsome and charming… But something about him gives me the creeps…” “So you felt it too?” She looks at Jon quickly and he nods. “It’s something in his eyes… I don’t like the idea of Kate with him. It scares me.” Jodi bites her lip. “Me too… Do you think we should go check on her?” “I don’t know… I don’t want to invade.” “Exactly what I was thinking. Maybe we should just try talking to her tomorrow.” Jon nods. “You’re right… “Oh, you’re not serious…” Indiana sits up when she hears a rock against her window and opens it to look at Rhys who is standing there with a huge grin. “Are you crazy?” She looks at him disbelievingly and he winks before starting to climb the tree. When he enters her room, he immediately kisses her. “The idea of a night without you is just too much…” “But we almost got caught…” “So we’ll be more alert…” He kisses her again softly, pushing her down on the bed. Bobby checks himself in the window of his car and grins. “Yeah… I look good!” He gets out and unlocks the door, walking in quietly. He closes the door, shifting the bunch of roses to his other arm and walks to her room. Bobby frowns when he hears voices murmuring behind the closed door. He throws the door open with a frown, staring at Jessica and Mark for a few seconds before slamming the door shut and rushing off. “Bobby! Bobby wait!” Jessica jumps off the bed and runs after him, grabbing his arm. “Bobby, it’s not what you think!” “Save it, Jess! You could have said that it was over instead of jumping into bed with someone else, you know.” “Bobby, I’m sorry!” He shakes her hand off his arm, looking at her with disgust. “Save it.” “Where are you going?” “Like you care!” “I do!” “Whatever.” He shoots her one last disgusted look before storming off, slamming the door loudly behind him. Kate looks at Darin silently, her eyes accusing him. “Stop that.” “What?” “Looking at me like that. You know you wanted it.” Kate stands up, tears streaming over her cheeks. “I didn’t want it, Darin! And you know that!” “STOP IT!” He takes slaps her through her face again and she loses her balance, falling on the ground. Poor Kate, I hope the others suss out what is going on soon then Darin will have to answer to Paul. Poor bobby although I like the idea of Jess and Mark it was a bad way for him to find out.
