Just so you know - Chris Sadrinna's wife and oldest daugther died a few years before the fic plays off and he's regressed a bit. His daughter, Cassidy, has a very annoying teacher who she constantly quotes. So meet Miss Lizzy.

PART 6

“Oh, look who’s here!”

Jodi grins when Paul enters the coffee shop and Kate glares at her.

“Jodi, I’m telling you – not going to happen!”

Her face turns white when she notices Sharni walking in with Paul, holding his hand.

“Besides… looks like he’s not alone.”

Jodi bites her lip.

“Kate, I’m so…”

“Don’t even say it. Sharni is a great girl. They’ll be good together. Excuse me.”

She stands up and walks out, ignoring Paul’s greeting. Jodi just shakes her head before paying the bill and walking out as well.

“Daddy?”

Chris Sadrinna looks up when Cassidy speaks next to him.

“Yeah, sweetie?”

“Why don’t we ever go to the beach anymore? Ever since mum and Shakira died… we never do anything. I don’t like it.”

Chris looks at his daughter quietly.

She’s grown up so much… the ten-year old girl in front of him is a stranger. He sighs, patting her head distractedly.

“We can go next week.”

Cassidy looks at him seriously.

“Miss Lizzy said that I can call her if I want to go and she’ll take me. She loves going to the beach. She goes there everyday.”

Chris nods and stares out in front of him and Cassidy sighs.

“Dad, are you listening to me? Miss Lizzy said that if people stare out in front of them, they’re not listening. She said…”

Chris stands up and looks at his daughter with a smile.

“Okay, we can go to the beach right now. Just… stop quoting miss Lizzy. Please.”

“Jon? Are you here?”

Jodi frowns at the empty house and tiptoes into the bedroom. Jon is sitting on the bed, staring at the wall silently. She sits down next to him, putting her hands on his shoulders.

“Hey, sweetheart…”

“Jodz…”

She looks at him concernedly.

“Jon, what happened?”

“I just came out of a meeting with the producers… they’re not renewing my contract, Jodz. They’re killing me off.”

Jodi puts her arms around him, speechless.

“Jon…”

Kate stares out in front of her, the vision of Sharni and Paul playing off in front of her eyes continuously.

“This is ridiculous. We’re just friends, there is nothing between us!”

She sighs, letting her head hang and looks up when a handsome guy sits down next to her.

“They say talking to yourself is the first sign of losing your mind.”

Kate sighs.

“Oh, I’ve lost it.”

He laughs and holds out his hand to her.

“I’m Darin.”

“Kate.”

She takes his hand reluctantly, looking up into his shining blue eyes.

“So Kate. Want some company? I’m a fairly good listener if you want to talk. And I’ll buy you coffee…”

Kate smiles up at him.

“How can I refuse?”

He pulls her up and smiles.

“My company isn’t much… but it beats talking to yourself.”

“You’re not going to let me forget that, are you?”

Darin thinks for a minute and grins.

“Nope.”

Cassidy looks at her father and sighs.

“I’m going into the water now.”

Chris nods, not taking off his sunglasses.

“You do that.”

Cassidy shakes her head, storming to the water angrily. She stops when she sees a familiar figure lying on a towel nearby.

“Miss Lizzy?”

The young dark haired woman sits up and smiles brightly.

“Hey, Cassidy! Where are you going?”

“Swimming.”

“Alone?”

Cassidy nods.

“My dad’s on the beach.”

“I see… Well… I’ll come with you.”

Cassidy looks at her with gratitude.

“Thanks, Miss Lizzy…”

“There…”

Jodi hands Jon a cup of coffee and he takes it silently, winking at her.

“You feeling better yet?”

Jon tries to smile.

“I’m still a little shocked… but I’ll be okay.”

“You’ll get another job, Jon. You’re a good actor.”

He takes her hand, sighing.

“How can you be so sure? I don’t know if things are ever going to work out again. And that scares me…”
