My feeling was it wasn't important who he was because he wasn't the thing Jack was afraid of. Obviously I should have thought a little harder about that . That aside, I'll admit I did laugh. Not because he was afraid but because it was a funny fic. I give you full credit for dealing with such a fear. I thought you were referring to the spider as a "he" on purpose, to emphasise that it was very important to Jack. And I liked how you did the criminal as "that guy" too, showing that Jack wasn't really that bothered about who the criminal that was holding his wife at knife point was... It really made it seem like to me Martha and this Criminal were blurry in the background, and Jack and the Spider in the foreground. That's another reason why I really liked it.
