Extended Summary

Mackenzie and Levi meet up near the beach, after Levi has been to work. They’re keen to spend time together but Mackenzie is getting texts from Remi asking her to come to Salt for a meeting. Just as they’re settling in to ignore him, Levi gets a call from Bree asking to meet and they decide to take a rain check. At Salt, Remi is sitting at a table while Eddie chats to Jo at the bar, saying he always has one fan in the audience. Jo jokingly agrees that his mum always comes. Tane comes in for a takeaway and exchanges a look with Jo without saying anything. Eddie asks Jo if she knows him. She just says he’s her personal trainer, explaining the boot camps have helped her.

At the beach house, David plays back the recording where he says Wendell denied everything when he first spoke to him, showing no guilt, remorse or responsibility. He says Wendell didn’t learn from his mistake but repeated it and destroyed another family. He hopes he’ll be given the maximum sentence. At Salt, Eden asks Remi and Eddie if she can get them anything. Remi asks for Mackenzie just as she arrives. He introduces her to Eddie who thanks her for agreeing to him playing that night. Mackenzie was obviously unaware of this and says she needs more notice to arrange extra staff and food. Remi thinks the crowd will be happy with a bar but Mackenzie says they won’t come back if there’s poor service. She tells Eddie she’ll be happy for him to play there but needs more than an hour’s notice.

At the beach house, Jo tells David she’ll be heading back to Salt after dinner for Eddie’s gig. She then gets a text from him saying it’s cancelled. David suggests taking him out for breakfast at Salt in the morning. Cash arrives in uniform and Jo makes herself scarce. He’s there to collect the camera equipment. David says he, Lacey, Leah and Jo all did them. Cash says it will help. David hopes it’ll see Wendell locked up for the rest of his life.

At Salt, Remi apologises to Eddie but he’s happy for more lead time. Seeing a missed call from Jo, he heads off. Eden tries to encourage Remi but he isn’t happy that his first attempt at organising a gig fell flat. Mackenzie comes over and offers to host Eddie next week. Levi comes in and tells Mackenzie about Bree’s new job. Eden realises Remi knew. Remi walks out, knocking into Levi as he does so.

Tane is closing up the gym. Nearby, Eddie is on the phone to Jo agreeing to the breakfast. He comes over to Tane and introduces himself, saying he’s friends with Jo and that she said he helped her out and is a great trainer. He says he might come by himself. Outside, Eden runs into Cash, having just finished work. She tells him Bree’s news and the effect it’s having on Remi. She’s not sure if she should talk to him. Cash says he’s still her best mate even if he didn’t want her involved with the label.

Mackenzie comes home and finds Levi sat outside. He offers her a brandy, pointing out it’s okay now they’re not doing IVF, and she agrees. After cuddling up for a moment, she says she’s had enough of tranquility. Levi flirtatiously suggests continuing the conversation indoors. Mackenzie spells out that she’s not interested in talking.

Next morning, Tane is running a boot camp near the beach. He orders a rotation which sees Jo paired with him. She notices his cold demeanour and says she thought they could still be friends while on pause. Tane says that according to Eddie he’s just her trainer, since that’s what she told him, then orders another rotation.

Levi finds Mackenzie putting some breakfast together outside but says he’s been called in for an urgent consult. He suggests Mackenzie goes out and make a day of it but she isn’t keen without him. She notes they made the right decision about the IVF. Meanwhile, Cash and Eden see Remi standing by the beach. Cash encourages Eden to talk to him, running off. She approaches Remi and suggests they go into the city, organise some music and talk things over. Remi tells her about begging Bree to stay. Eden asks if he really thought that would work. She says they’ve talked this stuff over since they were fifteen. Remi says he has better things to do and they all have to grow up at some point.

David shows off the view from the Salt balcony to Eddie. They discuss Lacey working in a board shop and how she enjoys it even though she doesn’t surf, and recall how they first had breakfast together after Kristina caught Eddie trying to sneak out when he slept over. Jo joins them and they chat about the boot camp, with Eddie saying he met Tane and he seems like a nice bloke. Tane is walking past down below and sees the three of them chatting away.

Inside, Levi arrives and greets Eden before checking on Remi at a nearby table, saying Bree’s doing something great. Remi sarcastically agrees before saying he’s going somewhere quiet. Eden tells Levi that Remi bit her head off too and thinks he hasn’t got time to hang out with a slacker. Levi says Eden’s just got married. She says that’s nice but not her purpose in life.

Mackenzie comes running out of the house as Tane turns up with Archie, eager to have a cuddle. Tane says he needs her opinion and explains about Jo’s ex Eddie being in town. Mackenzie says this is why she encouraged him to make a move. Tane says he did, which gets her intrigued. On the Salt balcony, Eden brings Cash his meal and says Remi not only doesn’t want her involved in his music label but in his personal life as well. She says Remi’s making hit records, Bree’s saving children overseas and she’s doing nothing with her life, just a wife with no future to look forward to. Not looking happy, Cash hands her his meal and leaves.

Tane has told Mackenzie about his motel visits with Jo and reminds her she and Levi did the same thing. He tells her about Jo putting them on pause and says Archie’s his priority now and he’s not going to wait on the sidelines for Jo to make a decision. Mackenzie tells him he could get back in the game instead.
