Extended Summary

Sonny runs into Eddie by the beach and wonders if they had a meeting. Eddie claims he just texted him before explaining he’s joking and he’s actually there to meet Jo (who’s approaching). He explains that he’s her ex and heard Sonny used to live with her sister. Sonny makes himself scarce as Jo apologises for being late, saying she’s just come off the night shift.

At the Diner flat, Bree is astonished that Remi’s coming out with this now, saying they haven’t been together for months. Remi says she was still the love of his life and he thought they might have another shot some day, suggesting there’s a reason she hasn’t applied yet. Sonny interrupts them and Remi says he was just leaving, getting Bree to agree to think about it. At the Morgan house, Justin looks on as Leah tells Lacey that after making the statements she’s realised how much Lacey is suffering. She says she had no right to blame her and is sorry. Lacey says there’s nothing to forgive and she’ll regret going to see Wendell that night for the rest of her life.

At Salt, Eddie realises that Jo loves working in a cardiothoracic unit and says he’s the same with teaching. Jo recalls him having uni placements and making kids not much younger than him call him Mr Shepherd. They remember him living in a mouldy share house with Jo buying him scented candles. Eddie says David told him she wasn’t seeing anyone. Before Jo can answer, she gets a text from David and her demeanour becomes serious. She heads home and David says he wanted to talk to her before taking the equipment back, explaining about the victim impact statements and how Lacey and Leah have already done them. Jo is keen to play a part in putting Wendell away, saying she’s doing better now, and goes to change.

At the Diner flat, Bree complains that it was hard enough when it was just her to think about. Sonny says Remi’s never stopped loving her. Bree says they’ve already tried. Sonny gets a text asking him to meet Remi and Eddie. He refuses to give Bree advice but does ask her to think about whether Remi’s right about her hesitating.

On the balcony at Salt, Remi tells Eddie the equipment should clear customs soon. Sonny joins them and Eddie goes to the bar to give them room to talk. Remi asks Sonny about Bree’s mood but he refuses to break any confidences. Meanwhile, Jo has got changed out of her uniform and asks David for advice. He says to introduce herself and talk about the effect the crash had on her. Jo asks if he needs to be here; he doesn’t, although he will need to collate it for the DPP. Jo says she’s got it.

Bree nearly collides with Alf at the Diner. She explains she’s been offered a life-changing job opportunity. Alf congratulates her and says they’d be lucky to have her. Meanwhile, Remi and Sonny join Eddie at the bar. Eddie says he had a message from a student who needed calming down. Remi talks about arranging Eddie a gig at Salt, saying the owner will love him. Remi gets a text from Bree, and Eddie says he’d go too if his ex called, explaining to Sonny that they talked earlier.

Lacey and Leah arrive at the Diner engrossed in photos of Theo. Justin joins Alf at the counter and they hope things are looking up. David comes in and Lacey invites him to join them. Leah explains she’s apologised to Lacey and apologises to him too. David explains about Jo doing her statement and advises giving her some space. Meanwhile, Remi meets Bree on the beach. She tells him she’ll always love him and he realises she’s going. Bree reminds him he encouraged her to do it once and she has to make the decision for herself. Remi says he’s happy for her. Bree says she’ll see him before she goes.

In the bedroom at the beach house, Jo and Lacey chat about their statements and Leah’s apology. Jo tells Lacey about having lunch with Eddie and how it felt like a date, explaining she’s put things on pause with Tane. She asks Lacey to keep the excitement down since David doesn’t know. David can hear parts of the conversation from the living area. He plays Jo’s statement on the laptop, where she talks about being in the crash, her mother dying in the seat next to her and Wendell leaving her to die, and how her dad has never been the same.

At Salt, Sonny chats to Eddie about his troubles at school but notes he never got expelled like Remi. Remi, who has just arrived, tells them Bree’s taken the job. Eddie offers to go but Remi wants to get on with the gig and thinks they can do it tonight, asking Sonny to promote it on social media. Sonny tries to slow things down but Eddie ends up agreeing.

David is on the phone to someone, saying he’s got the statements ready and it’s best they don’t attend. Justin turns up, saying it should be safe now Leah and Lacey have patched things up. David says he’s already sent off Leah’s statement. Justin suggests David should do one, since he’s been affected as much as anyone.

At Salt, Sonny warns Remi against pressing ahead when Mackenzie hasn’t agreed but Remi is convinced she’ll love it. He gets a text saying the mixing desk is being delivered and tells Sonny to go and sign for it and bring back an amp and some leads. Lacey and Jo turn up and are slightly bewildered to find Eddie still there. Lacey “remembers” she has something to do. Eddie tells Jo he’s doing a gig there tonight and asks her to come.

David steels himself and sits down in front of the camera. He says he lost his wife and the mother of his daughters thanks to Wendell, explaining he met Kristina when he was nineteen and she was the love of his life.
