Extended Summary

Dana and Sonny are arriving back near the surf club and considering going for a swim. They run into Remi, and Sonny starts to apologise for not getting back to him. Remi says he doesn’t want to talk about that now. When Sonny mentions they’ve been out all night, Remi realises they don’t know. Meanwhile, up in Salt, Mackenzie continues to bother Abigail with trivialities about the roster. She wonders about Theo’s funeral and considers offering to put on something there and doing takeaway meals for Leah and Justin. Mali and Abigail offer to do that and she tells them not to patronise her. Abigail wishes Eden was there.

Cash and Eden are in their room at the Wildlife Retreat at Taronga. They comment on the fact that they haven’t left the room since they got there, even though they can hear animals outside. They consider going out and seeing the sights but find themselves distracted first. Meanwhile, at the Lyrik house, Remi has filled in Sonny and Dana. They are both struggling to process Theo being gone. Remi says the pair can stay there as long as they like. Sonny struggles to remember the last conversation he had with him. Dana prompts him to remember Theo was going to Tasmania with Lacey.

Mackenzie is heading back and forth to the store room. When Mali tries to help her and then accuses herself of burying herself in work and pushing Levi away, she tells him to go. Meanwhile, Sonny decides to call Leah and Justin. He gets through to voicemail and leaves a message apologising for not getting in touch sooner and saying they’re all there if they need anything.

Cash and Eden have made it out to explore the zoo area around the hotel. A hotel staffmember passes them and greets them as Mr and Mrs Newman. Cash asks Eden if she’s going to correct him and Eden says not this time. Meanwhile, Sonny and Dana are wondering how long they have to stay and if they should leave Remi alone. Sonny starts to tell Remi they’re heading off. When Remi doesn’t seem keen on the idea, they say they’re going to the surf club and invite him to come with them.

Abigail comes downstairs and tells Mali that Mackenzie’s just sent her on a break she hasn’t got and she’s struggling not to scream at her. She decides she needs to go back but Mali tells her to get some fresh air and he’ll keep an eye on Mackenzie. He goes upstairs where Mackenzie quickly nominates him as a taste tester for some new menys. Mali goes along with it but also expresses concern about her and Levi. Dana turns up to collect an order and asks if they know about Theo or have seen Leah and Justin. She notes you need to hold those you love close at times like this. After she’s gone, Mali tells Mackenzie that’s good advice and advises her to call Levi, who’s hurting as well. Mackenzie admits she could have handled it better and heads out onto the balcony, looking at Levi’s contact details. Before she can ring, she gets a text from Dean saying she’s an aunt again and sending a photo of the baby, Daniella. Mackenzie looks pleased for a moment, then breaks down in silent tears.

Cash and Eden are in the hotel lounge. Cash suggests sightseeing, dinner, drinks and seeing a band. Eden says they’ll see how the evening takes them and they discuss how much they’re enjoying the honeymoon. He calls her Mrs Newman and she calls him Mr Fowler. At the surf club, Abigail returns and Mali tells her that Mackenzie’s going to call Levi. Mali gets a text from Dean about the baby. He’s pleased until Abigail points out Mackenzie will get the text too.

Upstairs, Mackenzie is on the phone to Dean congratulating him. Mali turns up and confirms he’s heard. Mackenzie says she can’t wait to meet her new niece and to tell Izzy she loves her. She starts to get teary and hands the phone to Mali, who also congratulates Dean and says Mackenzie’s busy at Salt. He comments that it’s bad timing. Mackenzie says a healthy baby is good news. Dean agrees and says two things can be true at once and it’s okay to feel sad. Mackenzie muses that she was barely pregnant and wonders if that’s really enough to mourn.

Remi, Sonny and Dana are playing pool downstairs but note that it doesn’t feel right without Theo being there. Sonny says Theo was the only person that got him right from the start. Remi reminisces about Theo joining Lyrik, how they had a disastrous audition upstairs and weren’t going to let him play when he turned up late but knew as soon as he started playing and singing.

That evening, Mackenzie and Mali have finished a meal upstairs. Mali encourages Mackenzie to talk to him. She feels there’s no point dwelling on it but knows she’s driving everyone nuts. She wonders if it would be better for everyone else if she goes away and decides to go to Queensland to help Dean and Ziggy. Meanwhile, Cash and Eden are walking around the city after Eden decided she’d rather be with him than see a band. Cash wonders when he was last this relaxed and happy. Eden reminds him of their wedding and the party afterwards and they note everyone else is back in their normal lives now.

Next morning, Mali finds Mackenzie at Salt, rejigging the rosters again for while she’s in Queensland. Mali queries her being around a new baby. Mackenzie gets an alert for a cheap fare for this afternoon and accepts it, admitting she hasn’t told Levi yet since he was at work all night. Mali walks a little way away and leaves a message for Levi saying Mack’s about to make a big mistake.
