Extended Summary

Mali and Abigail are walking through a park area. Abigail regrets that she was dancing away at the wedding while everyone was dealing with the miscarriage but understands they didn’t want to ruin Eden’s big day. However, she is worried about the way Mackenzie was acting this morning, as if nothing had happened. Mali agrees it was weird and hopes she can talk to Levi.

At that moment, however, Levi finds Mackenzie looking through her drawers for a green top. He manages to stop her and tell her he doesn’t know how she’s feeling but he’s sad and thinks they should talk. Mackenzie says she’s sad as well but has had her moment and wants to move forward. She suggests cooking a family meal for all of them tonight.

Tane and Jo are walking outside the surf club with her noting he knows everything about her now. He says he doesn’t know what rugby team she supports and she says she doesn’t follow it. Tane says she can support her sister while still being relieved that she’s not to blame. He offers to walk her home and she jokes that he’s given her good advice and it’s downhill from here, so says goodbye.

Bree arrives at the Diner and checks a text she sent to Remi asking if he’s home. Alf asks her about Leah and Bree says her behaviour isn’t out of the ordinary in the circumstances. She reflects on how Theo won’t be upstairs and never will be. She gets a notification of her meeting with the medical board and says she thought it was someone else. Meanwhile, Remi arrives home, leaving a phone message for Sonny wondering if he and Justin are avoiding him and saying they’ve bought a studio. He sees Bree’s message but ignores it.

Levi, Mackenzie, Mali and Abigail are having a slightly awkward meal. Abigail and Mackenzie chat cheerily about the meal which Levi tries to echo. Mackenzie pours Abigail another glass of wine, despite her saying she didn’t want one. Mali and Abigail suggest going out to give Levi and Mackenzie time alone. Mackenzie politely but firmly says no-one’s going anywhere.

Tane brings Archie into the front room, saying they’ll let Harper sleep. He notes that it’s been a sad day and Archie probably wouldn’t understand that yet, adding that there’ll be many sad days in his life and then you know how lucky you are. Meanwhile, Mackenzie is serving up ice cream. She asks to see Abigail’s photos from yesterday then says she’s going back to work tomorrow, brushing aside Abigail’s offer to cover. Levi says that, despite her assumption, he will be taking time off because he’s not ready. Mali agrees it’s only been a couple of days. Mackenzie says she’s going to bed and snaps at Levi not to follow her. Once on her own, she looks less assured.

Next morning, Tane is setting up for a boot camp. Jo arrives and checks it’s okay for her to be there. She says she wants to take her mind off things for a bit. Meanwhile, Bree turns up at the Lyrik house and finds Remi about to leave. She convinces him to stay and tells him Theo was hit by a car and died. A devastated Remi protests that Theo’s got a bright future ahead of him and they were going to record music together. Bree pulls him in for a hug. After a few seconds, he pulls away, asking what she’s doing

At the surf club, Alf has filled in Mali and Abigail, who are both stunned. Mali ponders telling Lacey to take as much time off as she needs and decides to just message her. They wonder what to tell Levi and Mackenzie and whether Mackenzie can cope with it. Mali decides to call Levi. Levi is stunned at the news and also isn’t sure about telling Mackenzie. He then realises she’s standing behind him. She asks what he was going to lie to her about.

Bree apologises to Remi for sending him mixed signals. She offers to stay but Remi tells her to stop and just thanks her for letting him know. Bree leaves. Meanwhile, Mackenzie has also been told the news but is focusing on why Levi wasn’t going to tell her. Levi apologises but says he’s worried about her. Mackenzie says she’s dealing. Levi says he isn’t, not that she asked. Mackenzie asks what he wants from her and Levi says he wants her to acknowledge they lost their baby. Mackenzie says sitting around wallowing about either the baby or Theo won’t help and she’s going to work.

Near the surf club, Jo agrees with Tane that the exercises stopped her thinking about things. She heads up to check on Lacey. Nearby, Mali and Abigail are wondering what to do. Mackenzie turns up and confirms Levi told her but also wants to get on with work. Abigail wants to go and check on Levi. Mackenzie wants her to work. Abigail says in that case she’ll take her break now. She heads home and finds Levi is planning to go into the hospital, saying that him being there isn’t helping Mackenzie.

Remi plays Lyrilk’s record, listening to Theo singing. Mackenzie cries in the Salt storeroom but gathers herself and puts on a cold demeanour before going out to see Mali, brushing aside his concerns. Abigail returns and says Levi has gone into work because he thinks Mackenzie doesn’t want him around. Mackenzie says maybe she doesn’t and demands everyone go back to normal.
