Theo is on a dangerous path. Eliza rebels. Remi and Sonny settle scores.
Extended Summary
Theo is driving along the roads in his car (which is now painted green). Sonny is coming up from the beach and sees Bree’s text. He replies saying he’s fine and she texts back saying she wants to meet. Sonny sees Theo drive past. At the Lyrik house, Bree gets a reply from Sonny asking when. Remi comes in, chatting about the studio he’s arranged for Kirby. Bree is only half-listening and says she’s been called into work. Remi points out she’s been drinking but Bree says it’s just admin and leaves.
Marilyn apologies to Alf for making things worse. Alf says she wasn’t to know they were arguing about Eliza. Marilyn suggests she go and make peace with Roo or starts dinner but Alf suggests she might have been right about moving out and should go back to Irene’s. Marilyn is worried about him but he thinks he’ll do better if Roo doesn’t feel ganged up on.
Theo is showing the car off to Justin and Leah near the beach. Justin asks about the dodgy intake manifold. Theo says he got a replacement second hand, although they owe the guy from Smash Repairs a favour. Leah asks if he’s going to sell it. Theo says the loan’s under control and he’s just going to enjoy having it for the moment. Justin still seems a bit worried.
Gage and Lacey arrive at Salt. Lacey reminds him that Cash told them he was banned from there but Gage isn’t bothered. They stop by Sonny’s table but Sonny isn’t interested in talking to them as long as Theo’s racing. Bree comes in and sees Gage’s River Boy tattoo. She says Justin was right about Sonny being involved with them and they’re dangerous. Sonny says he’s not a criminal but is vague about why he moved out of Theo’s, saying he wanted to try out a fleapit motel near the highway. Bree says he could come to Remi for help and thinks Remi still cares about him.
Roo tells Alf she doesn’t want to talk about Eliza but Alf won’t be put off, saying Roo’s in over her head with Eliza and that it’s made Marilyn move out and try to move back, explaining he’s told her to stay away until it’s sorted. Roo says she’s going to ask Harper to speak to Eliza but won’t have her sent to another foster home. Alf points out it’s only meant to be an emergency placement but Roo says it’s not up to her to move her. Eliza comes in and notes she said everyone wants rid of her. Roo reminds her she said she’d apologise to Alf when he got back and suggests they sit down and talk.
Irene is surprised when Marilyn comes back with her bag. Marilyn says Alf told her to stay away and that Roo has told him everything that’s happened. Irene thinks Alf will sort it out. Marilyn wonders if people can change and Irene points out she did. Marilyn says Irene’s a good person who wanted to be the best version of herself and she doesn’t think Eliza cares.
Remi is on the phone round the back of the Lyrik house, making final arrangements for a ten day session in the main studio. Bree arrives back and admits she didn’t actually go into work. Sonny steps into view behind her and Bree says the two of them need to talk. Remi says she’s wasting her time and Sonny offers to go but Bree insists Remi misses him.
Eliza tells Alf she’s sorry she took the knife but he was kind to her and she wanted to remember it. Alf says you take a photo, not a knife, and theft can’t go unpunished. He says Eliza is grounded for two weeks, will be helping him at the bait shop and surf club after her studies and will be in her room at all other times. He adds that an apology means more when you mean it. Roo says she told Eliza she just had to apologise but Alf says it’s his house and his rules.
At the coffee cart, Leah tells Marilyn that Alf will sort it out but Marilyn isn’t convinced Eliza will respond to old school discipline. Theo turns up to see Justin, thinking he wants to take the car for a spin. Justin tells him what Cash said about the River Boys using stolen car parts and he was wondering if Theo used any of them. Theo insists every part in the car is legit.
Gage and Lacey are playing pool at the surf club. Gage gets a text saying Mouse is out on bail but says he’s not racing for him again. Lacey says they don’t need him now they’ve got Theo. Gage notes she talks about Theo a lot and Lacey jovially asks if he’s jealous. Bree comes over and says Sonny doesn’t need trouble but neither is impressed. Nearby, Alf gives Eliza her list of jobs: Clean the toilets, take out the recycling, sweep the store room, charge and change the batteries on the walkie talkies. Eliza protests she just took a knife that he’s got back. Alf says it’s also for the lying, stealing and hitting people. He says she can get out of it if she tells him the real reason she took the knife. Eliza just looks at him and he says that’s what he thought.
Remi brings Sonny a beer. Sonny offers to go now Bree’s left but Remi says if Bree can forgive him, he can too. He recalls when they were twelve he forgot to feed Sonny’s fish when he was away and they didn’t speak for a month. Sonny suggests that makes them even. Remi asks about the River Boys. Sonny says he’s not mixed up in that…anymore. He admits he and Theo did some mechanical work for them and Theo’s in deep trouble. Remi suggests he go to Cash but Sonny refuses.
Outside the surf club, Theo shows off his car to Gage and Lacey, saying he can get it up to “sub ten” and has supercharged it. Gage wants to buy it and suggests they go up for a drink. Theo agrees to the drink but insists he’s not selling. Nearby, Eliza puts some pieces of cardboard with the recycling and then walks away.
Remi and Sonny go back into the house. Sonny says he’s worried he could be charged. Remi says Cash is fair and Sonny admits he’s also worried about the River Boys coming after him and Theo. Remi doesn’t want to leave Theo in trouble and Sonny says he’ll talk to him. Bree comes back and is pleased to see them getting on.
At the Diner, Justin turns up for a coffee. Leah senses there’s something going on between him and Theo. Justin tells her what Cash said about the River Boys running a stolen car parts racket and that he asked Theo if he’s involved in it but he nows thinks he isn’t. Leah goes to join Marilyn, who is worried about Alf making an enemy of Eliza.
Eliza complains to Roo about Alf getting her to do all the gross stuff. Alf storms in, saying she doesn’t walk away in the middle of a job. Eliza says she’s going to her room, pointing out that’s where she’s supposed to be. Roo thinks that kindness and understanding will help her but Alf says he’ll teach her a lesson if Roo won’t.
At Salt, with Gage at the bar, Theo quietly tells Lacey he’d do things to her if Gage wasn’t there, rubbing his foot against hers. Gage offers him twenty-two and then twenty-three for the car but Theo says he didn’t build it to sell, he built it for himself. Noting people don’t say no to him, Gage offers twenty-five and Theo says he could offer twice that and he’d still say no.
Roo finishes a phone call with Harper and tells Alf she’s going to go to a foster carer seminar tomorrow and Harper will spend time with Eliza while she’s there. Alf is unimpressed and says Eliza is working for him tomorrow. Roo says she’ll stick to her plan and Alf should have said if an apology wasn’t enough, because she’s the one who makes decisions about Eliza. Eliza listens in from the corridor and looks pleased.
