Is Mali’s love unrequited? Roo refuses to listen. Bree’s worried for Sonny.
Extended Summary
Mali is following Abigail as she walks up from the beach. Abigail is trying to insist that she has to get back to work and he hasn’t known her that long. Mali says he’s known her long enough to know he loves her, asking if that’s too much. Abigail says their relationship doesn’t need that kind of pressure. Mali points out they already live together. Abigail says that might have been a mistake before making her excuses and leaving.
Down on the beach, Remi meets Bree after a surf with a coffee and notes Salt’s open, with them discussing the wedding being called off. Justin appears and also comments on it, then gets an alert on his phone, saying he’s still sorting out the kinks on the security system. Remi is slightly bemused that he installed it just because a River Boy was hanging around. Bree asks about Sonny. Justin says he moved out and he and Theo weren’t seeing eye to eye. No-one except Bree is particularly bothered about where he is.
Mackenzie notices the wedding invite on the fridge and looks at it sadly for a moment. Levi joins her and they wonder how Tane and Harper are doing. Mackenzie says the difference between them is that Tane and Harper didn’t plan to have a baby. Levi insists he’s fully committed now. Meanwhile, Mali turns up at Salt and claims he’s just there for dinner. Abigail is reluctant to speak to him, even though Mali knows she’s not meant to be working because they were meant to be at the wedding together. He thinks she’s hiding because she freaked out when he told her he loved her. He says it’s not a problem if she doesn’t feel the same way and to come and find him when she’s ready to talk.
Mackenzie is seductively feeding Levi strawberries and commenting on how much fun getting pregnant is. Abigail comes in, shielding her eyes, and says she knows Levi’s making babies but she had to come home. Mackenzie sends Levi to talk to her. Abigail tries to avoid it but Levi says her being there when he asked her not to be shows it must be bad.
At the Diner, Marilyn gives Justin his order, saying everything comes with a free slice of cake today. Leah explains it’s the wedding cake and Marilyn says she thought Tane and Harper would have their fairy tale ending. Justin gets another alert on his phone from the security cameras and begs Leah not to take it off him, saying he just needs to move it to a better position. Alf turns up, having just got back to town, and says he was after something to eat before taking Marilyn home and telling Roo. Leah and Justin quickly excuse themselves before Marilyn explains that she’s staying with Irene, telling him to ask Roo why. Roo arrives home and find Alf waiting for her. She asks if he’s seen Eliza and guesses she’s upstairs. Alf tells her to sit down and talk to him. Roo isn’t impressed with the cold greeting but Alf wants to know why Marilyn doesn’t feel safe in her own home.
Mackenzie tells Levi and Abigail she’s going to bed. Levi continues to requests answers from Abby. She ends up admitting Mali told her he loved her and says she’s not ready for that. Levi wonders if she feels the same way. Mali comes home. Abigail says she’s not ready to talk yet and he goes to bed. Abigail asks what happens if they say they love each other, saying Tane and Harper did and him and Imogen and their parents. Levi says that he and Mackenzie are still together and Cash and Eden. He thinks she should be talking to Mali but she isn’t ready yet and asks to watch an action movie with him instead.
Roo says it’s complicated but Marilyn said she was too scared to stay there. She asks Alf to keep his voice down so Eliza doesn’t hear, then admits she threatened Scott with a broken bottle when he took her phone. Alf says it sounds like Marilyn’s got a point. Roo says it would be foolish not to expect Eliza to have behavioural problems. She tells him Eliza has admitted to stealing things, including his knife as a reminder of their day together, but insists she needs love and stability. Next morning, Bree finds Remi in the back garden and notes he was tossing and turning during the night. She thinks he’s worried about Sonny and encourages him to text him to see if he’s all right but Remi refuses.
Abigail joins Mali at the surf club, saying she’s ready to talk. She suggests it wasn’t the best time for him to say that on the day their friends’ wedding fell apart. Mali wonders if she thinks they’re going to end up like Tane and Harper. He says it hurts when you break up but he knows how he feels and wonders how she does. Abigail says she doesn’t trust love and walks away.
Roo arrives at the coffee cart and tells Leah she’s there to see Marilyn. She tells Marilyn that she’s there to apologise: She doesn’t know if Eliza took Marilyn’s money but she has taken other things. Roo downplays them as keepsakes but admits one of them was Alf’s knife. Marilyn thinks Roo needs to call the department and tell them to find Eliza another placement. Roo says all Marilyn’s done is judge Eliza; she’s apologised and now she’s going to go. Marilyn tells Leah she’s going to move back in to look after Roo.
Mali finds Abigail down on the beach. Abigail asks if he’s going to break up with her. Mali says they had a bad day but that’s going to happen. Abigail thinks that’s how things start to go bad. Mali says he told her he loves her because he meant it and he did even before he was on her radar, so he will even if she ignores him or can’t say it back. Abigail says she loves him too and it scares her.
At Salt, Mackenzie gives Levi a double shot after his night up with Abby and suggests they pick up where they left off after lunch. He passes Justin, Remi and Bree. Justin and Remi are chatting about the recording session. Bree thinks they should talk about Sonny possibly being missing. Justin tells them what Cash said about the River Boys being into stolen gear and street racing and thinks Sonny got Theo involved in it. Remi says that doesn’t sound like Sonny and Justin says he skipped town before he could confront him. Bree again tries to get Remi to contact him but Remi says it sounds like he didn’t know him at all. Later, Bree is sat round the back, composing a text to Sonny saying she wants to know he’s okay. She hesitates, then sends it as Remi approaches. She tells him it was Kirby and changes the subject.
Roo arrives home and asks if Eliza came downstairs. Alf says she did long enough to take food and go back up. Roo says if Eliza did want to hurt them, there’s a load of kitchen knives there, and if Alf wants to lock her up, that’s inappropriate. Alf says if Roo can say she’s got it under control, he’ll support her. Roo replies that she hoped Alf would support her anyway. Marilyn turns up with her bags and says she’s there because she thinks Roo needs her. Roo says she’s another person telling her what to do and isn’t happy.
