Eden can’t catch a break. Levi spills the beans.
Extended Summary
At the farm house, Mackenzie reminds an amorous Levi that they’re not dressed yet and there’s no time for more baby-making. Levi suggests that they slope off together after the wedding. Mackenzie points out the reception’s at Salt. Mali and Abigail come in wondering why they’d leave early and why they aren’t dressed. The pair rush off, leaving Mali and Abigail to compliment each other on their appearance.
Cash arrives home to find Tane on the phone to his cousin, letting the whanau know what happened before they set off. Cash says Dana gave him a list of people to contact and other things to cancel. He says he also saw Harper and she thinks they did the right thing. Tane says people can bring up a child together without being married. Cash gives him the ring.
Kirby finds Eden outside the house and asks her about the wedding being off. Eden just says it was a mutual decision and reflects on thinking you know what your life’s going to be like only to be wrong. Kirby says Eden and Cash worked out and notes her suggestion to talk to him about getting engaged again after the wedding doesn’t work now. Eden is happy to wait for the right time. Kirby goes inside and Eden gets in the van.
Mackenzie and Levi have got ready and joined Mali and Abigail. Abigail checks Mali will dance with her and takes a photo of the four of them. Mackenzie says she’ll drive them and won’t be drinking, claiming it’s because she’s running the reception. Eden then arrives and tells them the wedding’s off and both Harper and Tane changed their minds (Mackenzie realises she has missed calls from Dana), before telling Mackenzie she’s there about Tane.
Harper and Dana arrive at the Diner with Dana nervously pointing out Archie is coming soon. Irene greets them, having gone there to give them some space, and Harper just asks for a tea. Irene says the baby coming is exciting. Dana says Harper needs to work out how parenting with Tane is going to work but Harper protests her wedding was only called off an hour ago. Irene says they’ll work it out.
Cash finishes a phone call with Leah, telling Tane she says she’s sorry it didn’t work out; he’s also cancelled the photo booth and the DJ. Mackenzie turns up; Tane says he’ll pay whatever costs there are but Mackenzie says it’s fine and Eden and Abby are clearing Salt. Cash says he’ll go and help them. Mackenzie checks with Tane, who says Harper deserves to be with someone who loves her and he wishes it could have been him. He gets a text from Harper asking to meet.
Harper and Dana are waiting by the beach as the wedding setting is cleared away. Dana awkwardly says it’s too windy for a wedding before telling Harper she can do this. She leaves as Tane approaches. Dana says they need to talk about Archie. Tane suggests going back to the original plan: Archie lives with her but he’s involved. Harper says everything’s changed. She walks away, telling Tane he’s not going to be in Archie’s life.
At Salt, Cash is making phone calls cancelling extra staff. Abigail wonders if they’re opening and what to do with the food. Eden suggests they do specials. She tells Levi to put the wine in the store room before she calls the suppliers, and tells Cash to ask John about storing chairs in the store room. Levi asks if she’s spoken to Cash yet about the engagement and she says it’s not the right time. Levi jokes about there being a wedding going spare. Eden asks if there’s any little Fowlers on the way and Levi says he’s trying. Mackenzie turns up and she and Levi talk about Tane and Harper having something to look forward to.
Outside, Tane is insisting that Harper can’t cut him out of his son’s life and Harper is replying that being the father doesn’t guarantee anything. Tane is maintaining she can’t do this to him when Cash appears, telling Tane to walk away and offering to walk Harper home. At the surf club, Mali and Kirby discuss the wedding being off. Kirby asks Mali to cover her lessons so she can go back to work on the song but Mali reminds her she was meant to be doing that in her own time and says he’s helping upstairs. Kirby isn’t happy and says she needs to take a step back from the board shop: She’s quitting, giving two weeks’ notice.
At the beach house, Irene and Dana worry about Harper’s whereabouts. Cash drops Harper off. Harper tells Dana and Irene that she’s told Tane she doesn’t want him around anymore and she’s going to focus on herself and the child. Meanwhile, Cash arrives home and tells Tane that Harper got home safe. Tane is upset about being cut out of his son’s life, saying he didn’t dump Harper and he’s being punished for not lying about how he felt. Cash tells him to wait, saying you don’t get to break someone’s heart and then call the shots.
Levi sits with Eden and tells her that there is no right or wrong time to tell Cash how she feels. Eden accepts the argument and leaves, taking a bottle with her. Levi and Mackenzie go to kiss and Abigail reminds them she’s still there. Mali comes in and tells her about Kirby quitting. Meanwhile, at the beach house, Irene is telling Harper this will all just seem like a blip. Tane turns up hoping to see Harper and she asks Irene and Dana to leave them. Tane says he understands her not wanting him at the birth but begs her to let him be part of Archie’s life afterwards. Harper says they’ll work it out after the birth.
Kirby arrives in the back garden to find Eden setting up with champagne. She explains it’s for Cash, and Kirby leaves them to it. Cash arrives in a somewhat despondent mood, saying Harper and Tane started on the wrong foot with neither of them knowing what they were doing, and he’s glad she didn’t rush into getting engaged again. He notices the fancy booze and Eden dismisses it as surplus from work.
Mali notes he’ll have to take the lessons again. Abigail says he could hire an instructor but he says he still needs someone to run the shop. She points out she’s trained up but he reminds her she has a job and she quit so they wouldn’t be in each other’s pockets. They kiss and Levi reminds them he and Mackenzie are still there. He encourages them to go out on a date tonight with him and Mackenzie giving a rambling recommendation for a new film. Abigail reminds him she said he couldn’t keep kicking them out when Mali moved in, even turning down Levi’s offer of money. Levi says they’re trying for a baby, getting stunned looks from everyone present.
Mackenzie and Levi arrive home, commenting on the look on Abby’s face. Levi admits he panicked and blurted it out. He apologises for overstepping, before jokingly offering to spend the night watching movies with Abigail to make up for it. Meanwhile, Abigail and Mali are walking on the beach with Abigail complaining about having the image of Levi and Mackenzie making babies in her head. She wonders why Mali’s looking at her and he asks if she knows how much he loves her. She looks rather taken aback.
