Eden and Levi underestimate Abigail. Rose confronts her true feelings. Mali cancels a date, but for who?
Extended Summary
Levi is on the phone to Mackenzie as he and Abigail approach the surf club, assuring her that everything’s fine at Salt. Abigail asks if he’s told her about his divorce and Levi says he will once it’s finalised. Abigail goes over to a distracted Mali and tries to get him to join them for breakfast. Mali says he has to check on Kirby at the shop. Levi goes on ahead as Mali arranges to meet Abigail for dinner.
Up in Salt, Levi finds Eden struggling with the orders on her own. He confirms that Mackenzie’s told him about Xander leaving and offers to help out and clear tables or something. Eden asks him do a ring round and see if anyone’s able to come in today. Abigail comes up and Levi tells her he’s too busy to eat but she should order whatever she wants.
At the coffee cart, Leah and Marilyn chat to Rose and Dana about Xander not coming back and they say they’re having a coffee before going to pack his things up. Marilyn is sorry that Xander and Dana didn’t work out while Leah knows Rose will miss him. At their table, Dana and Rose exchange apologies again. Dana wonders if Rose is considering going to Melbourne. Rose hasn’t thought further ahead than packing Xander’s things and Dana offers to help. Later, Rose and Dana arrive at the flat with boxes and are greeted by Bree, who checks they’re both okay. They insist they are and Dana puts on some music while they pack.
Mali tells Kirby that he needs her to take a class while he goes and shapes a board. Kirby looks distracted but agrees. Abigail comes down and asks if they can manage without her since Eden’s short-staffed. Kirby says they have a delivery and stock order but Mali says she can go. He asks Kirby to call the customer and say the board will take a couple of days longer while he takes the lesson. Kirby agrees but sits down and starts writing in a notebook as soon as Mali’s gone.
Upstairs, Levi hasn’t managed to get anyone to come in although some people are getting back to him. Abigail comes up and offers her help. Eden initially tries to refuse, then says Abigail can clear tables, adding she can’t work behind the bar or serve alcohol without an RSA. Abigail starts to say something but Eden tells her to get an apron from the kitchen. After Abigail’s gone, Eden admits to Levi that she thinks having to supervise Abigail will make things harder. Later, Abigail brings some drinks to a table. Eden stops her and reminds her what she said about the RSA. Abigail bluntly explains they’re mocktails.
Mali returns to find Kirby still writing in her notebook, having not made the phone call. When she ignores his attempts to get her to return to work, he takes the book off her, saying she can have it back at the end of the shift. He understands she wants to focus on music but says she’ll have to decide what she wants.
Levi finishes off a phone call and says that he’s got a casual coming in and staff lined up for tonight. He picks up on tension between Abigail and Eden, and Eden admits she thought Abigail had messed up and she hadn’t. Mali comes up and is confused as to why Abigail was needed but they assure him it’s the first time they’ve stopped all day. Eden mentions Xander not coming back, which is news to Mali.
Rose, Dana and Bree are continuing to pack things up. Dana notices a small model robot and says she’ll miss it, surreptitiously pocketing it. Rose says Xander keeps texting her instructions but says he’d do the same for her. Mali turns up and asks Rose how she is. She insists she’s fine and the others say they’ll look after her.
Levi and Eden are starting to relax as the rush winds down. Eden asks Abigail to stay on for an hour. Levi says she’s actually good at it. Abigail says she actually has an RSA: Before she was a failure, she worked in restaurants to put herself through uni. Levi and Eden feel bad. Meanwhile, Rose is trying to find the end of a tape and gets a text from Xander saying to cover his surf board and pack his wetsuit (which Dana is just doing). Dana heads off to get coffees as Rose manages to tape up the box only to promptly lift it up so everything falls out the open end. Rejecting Bree’s offer of help, she pushes stuff aside to sit down.
Mali cautiously approaches Kirby outside the surf club after she has finished a class and returns the notebook. Kirby explains that a friend made her realise she’s not ready to give up music. Mali asks if he’s losing her. Kirby says she’ll keep on working for him but she needs to record some music, find a new band and do some gigs.
Abigail is now serving drinks as Eden admits she’s realised they missed a lot of time and she doesn’t know much about her. She also asks for her bank details, insisting on paying her. Levi offers to cover things while Eden sorts out the rosters. She reveals Abigail told her about his divorce. She understands why he didn’t tell her but says she’s glad he’s sorting it.
Dana returns with the coffees. Rose decides she can finish the packing on her own and Bree and Dana head off for a drink. They arrive at the surf club, wondering whether or not Rose is coping. Mali approaches them and asks about Rose. They say they’re giving her space. Abigail comes downstairs and Mali asks to do dinner another time, saying he needs to help a mate.
Levi is on the phone to Mackenzie, saying he forgot to tell her that he missed her when they spoke before. Abigail returns in a despondent mood and tells him about Mali cancelling. She hopes they can hang but Levi says he has work to do. Abigail understands. Meanwhile, Mali turns up at the Diner flat. Rose admits she’s gong to miss Xander and they hug.
