Extended Summary
Alf and Dana are walking by the surf club. Dana comments on Alf fishing and not catching anything. Alf insists he did catch something, just nothing worth keeping. Tane helps a reluctant Harper outside and wants to call an ambulance for her. Dana checks Harper over and Harper describes it as a wave of nausea. Dana tells the others she’ll be all right.
The two sisters head home where Harper insists she’s eaten today although she admits it might not have been enough. Dana comments on the fact she still hasn’t told Tane. Harper says she tried but Tane really wants to be a father and would want to keep the baby. Dana agrees that Harper should keep quiet until she’s decided what to do.
At the Lyrik house, Remi is trying to get an explanation from Bree but she is keen to get out of there. Theo turns up with some beers to apologise for letting it slip to Kirby and Bree uses his arrival as an excuse to leave, despite Remi still wanting an answer. Remi walks away from Theo in frustration. At the surf club, Alf asks Tane about Harper. Tane says she texted to say she’s fine. Perri appears with a bin bag; Alf suggests he put it outside but Perri say it’s his stuff. Alf leaves and Perri explains to Tane that he went to see his dad and told him where he was living. His dad told him to leave and not come back so he grabbed the rest of his stuff. He seems fine with it and Tane is fine with him staying.
Leah and Marilyn are closing up at the Diner, both still concerned about Irene and feeling that John was covering something. Irene appears in a cheery mood, insisting she’s fine about the article and saying she’ll shout them dinner and explain everything. Once they get to Salt, Irene asks the barman for three glasses of house white…one for each of them. Leah and Marilyn are both taken aback but Irene happily starts drinking, saying she’s turned a corner.
Xander has set the table in the flat for a candlelit dinner. Dana turns up and is pleased but they are soon interrupted by Bree, who says she’ll be in her room. Xander asks what’s wrong and she says she had a fight with Remi. Dana says it can be hard with exes. Bree says the pair might as well know since everyone else does: She and Remi are back together.
Later, Xander wonders how they didn’t know and Bree says the sneaking around was fun until now. Dana wants details about how they got back together. Bree talks about how she wanted to comfort Remi after Stevie’s death. Dana says it was the same for her and Xander: She couldn’t help getting back with him when she saw him hurt after the accident. Xander doesn’t look too pleased.
Theo apologises to Remi for not managing to keep Kirby quiet but Remi thinks that’s not the real issue. He says sneaking around was fun at first but got old fast and he only kept up with it because it was what Bree wanted. Theo asks what Remi wanted and Remi says to make Bree happy. Theo suggests it’s the same old problem.
At Salt, Leah is expressing concern about Irene’s drinking. Irene says everyone’s been telling her not to punish herself about Bronte and the same goes for her drinking, that she’s spent too long being ashamed. Leah tries to argue that being sober isn’t a punishment but Irene says she can join in if she’s in control. Marilyn cautiously says she seems to have given it a lot of thought. Irene decides to get another round in and isn’t deterred by Leah declining another drink.
Next morning, Tane and Perri are having a session on the beach. Tane asks about Perri going back to his dad. Perri says that he thought Tane would have tried to talk him out of it and his mother would have wanted him to give him another chance. Tane sees Harper and goes over to her, telling her that he seems to have become Perri’s permanent guardian.
The three of them head up to Salt where Perri seems fine about the way things have turned out. Tane and Harper cheerily argue about who should buy the next drink and Perri asks if they’re a thing. Harper quickly retreats and Perri tells Tane he’s just saying it like he sees it.
Dana is making small talk to a rather muted Xander. Bree comes through and apologises for crashing their date last night. After she’s gone, Xander questions Dana about what she said last night, saying she wouldn’t have got back with him if it wasn’t for the accident. Dana says the accident is what made her realise what was important. Xander says they shouldn’t be together for the wrong reasons. Dana walks out.
Leah and Marilyn serve Theo and Remi at the coffee cart. Leah wonders why Theo didn’t come home and Remi says he needed a friend. Remi takes two coffees over to Bree at a nearby bench and she thanks him for meeting her. Remi says he’s fallen back into doing things to make her happy and if she doesn’t want to be together she should say so. Bree says things have been great and she was worried about that changing, and she does want to be with him. They kiss. Marilyn sees and notes she didn’t know that was back on. Theo says he did. Leah asks Marilyn what they’re going to do about Irene. Marilyn doesn’t think they can object when this is the happiest Irene’s been in a long time. Leah says they’ll see how long it lasts.
In Harper’s room, Dana is telling her about what happened with Xander. Irene invite them to join her and opens a bottle of champagne, saying she thought they could do something different. Dana explains she was complaining about dating stupid men. She accepts a mimosa from Irene and also accepts Harper’s. Harper recalls Irene saying it was a dry house. Irene says that was to stop riff-raff coming in and Dana takes it to mean they’ve passed the test.
Walking to the beach, Tane broaches the subject of going back to school with Perri. Perri says he hated it and doesn’t want to go back. Tane suggests getting a job but Perri doesn’t see the point. Meanwhile, Irene and Dana are both drunk, with Dana complaining that Xander’s reading into everything she says and she says a lot of things. Irene says Bronte tried to split them up and now Xander’s doing the same thing. Dana gets up abruptly, saying she’s going to tell Xander he’s an idiot. Irene pours herself a glass of champagne and carries on drinking on her own.
