Kirby is wooed by Iluka. Mackenzie and Levi walk into danger. Can Mali save his friends in time?

Extended Summary

Mackenzie and Levi are enjoying themselves on the beach and both glad she decided to trust him. They comment on the number of people staying at their house at the moment and how Iluka wasn’t too happy to be sleeping on the couch, although Mackenzie’s relieved to have Tane back. Levi says he’s relieved to have her back.

At the surf club, Mali wonders to Iluka why the Allens haven’t called him back. Iluka isn’t keen on the idea of just giving the money back to them but Mali says it’s better than hiding from them. He wonders if he should call again but Iluka says the Allens are involved in lots of things and will call back when they do. He wonders if he should apologise to Tane for taking his room. Mali is surprised that he hasn’t already. Iluka has also moved the money into his car.

Up in Salt, Tane has told Harper about his idea. Harper approves but tries to get out of helping him, saying he already has everything sorted. Tane says he needs to put a proposal together for the surf club. Harper suggests he write something and she looks it over. Tane says he wouldn’t know where to start and asks her to spend an hour or two helping him.

At the coffee cart, Marilyn is telling Rose about the people suing the Diner and notes one of them has a pre-existing condition. Leah asks her to keep quiet about all that. As Rose leaves, Justin turns up. Leah asks about Ava and he says she’s fine. Once Leah’s out of earshot, Justin tells Marilyn that Ava’s having trouble with the HSC. Marilyn says Leah’s lucky to have Justin around.

Iluka runs into Kirby outside the Lyrik house and presents her with a single rose. Kirby comments that he probably stole it from John’s garden. Iluka says he thought she deserved the personal touch. Kirby wonders how he got her address and he says he looked it up at the board shop. Despite commenting on him snooping on her, Kirby invites him in.

Mackenzie and Levi turn up at the surf club, discussing the fact his unit will open in a day and then both of them will hardly be home. Mackenzie says Mali’s turned their place into a boarding house. A woman who has been loitering nearby asks if they know Mali, saying she was meant to be picking up a board from him but he’s not down the beach and not answering his phone. Mackenzie asks if she was meant to pick it up from there or the shed. The woman agrees it could be the shed and asks for the address. Mackenzie writes it on a post-it note. The woman exits the surf club looking considerably less bubbly and cheerful: Inevitably, she’s Nat Allen. She joins two men, Gordie and Campbell, and, showing them the post-it note, says she’s got his address.

Round the back of the Lyrik house, Kirby tries to encourage Iluka not to listen to Mali about giving up his dream. Iluka says you have to when a dream’s crazy. Kirby says she knows what it’s like to have your dream right there and then have it ripped away from you, saying it hurts having Lyrik on ice. Iluka says they’re both dreamer and both into each other, and kisses her. Kirby asks what he’s doing, then they kiss again.

Gordie breaks into the farm house, with Nat and Campbell following him in. They quickly realise there’s no-one there. Nat tells Campbell to search the place for their money and Gordie to get her a beer. As she puts her feet up, Campbell can be heard ransacking the place. At the gym, Harper offers to get Tane the stats on benefits of exercise. Mali comes in and Harper awkwardly says she’s helping Tane with something. Mali realises it’s the proposal Tane mentioned. He apologises to Tane for giving Iluka his room, saying he couldn’t get in touch to let him know. Tane is fine with it and Mali leaves. Harper shows Tane the stats on a laptop…then stands staring at him until he asks if she’s okay.

Mali leaves a phone message for Iluka. Rose turns up and wonders if the situation with Iluka that he hasn’t told her about has been fixed. Mali says it’s a work in progress, then pressgangs her into helping him take boards down the beach for his next class. Mackenzie and Levi come downstairs. Mackenzie notes Tane’s working, Mali has classes and Iluka won’t be home, so they have the place to themselves.

Kirby and Iluka emerge from the bedroom in a dishevelled state. Kirby says she wasn’t expecting the day to go like this but isn’t complaining. Iluka sees he has a voicemail and missed call from Mali and says it’s something he’s been putting off. Kirby asks him to put it off a bit longer.

Mackenzie and Levi arrive back at the farm house but quickly realise they don’t actually have the place to themselves when they see the house has been trashed. Nat appears and Mackenzie wonders if she’s robbing them. Nat ponders whether taking back something that’s been stolen from you is robbing. Levi goes to phone the police but then Gordie and Campbell appear, with Campbell brandishing a knife. Nat tells them to hand over their phones and sit down.

Mali and Rose return from the lesson. Mali asks Rose to come home with him but she has to visit Kirby so asks to meet him in Yabbie Creek for dinner instead. Tane and Harper appear. Harper agrees to continue helping Tane. Tane tells Mali that Iluka can have his room for a few days; he’s checked into a motel because he needs time alone to get his head straight. Once they’re alone, Mali asks Harper how she’s going. She says she and Tane are just friends again…and she has no idea how she’ll handle that.

Iluka and Kirby emerge from the house with him looking forward to continuing to be her groupie. As they kiss, Rose walks up and offers to go. Iluka says he’s going anyway. Kirby says she’s allowed a life of her own. Rose protests she didn’t say anything. Kirby says she might do once she’s told her all about it. At the farm house, Mackenzie tries to tell Nat to leave. Nat says technically Mali invited them. Mackenzie asks why she asked for the address and Nat retorts that Mackenzie was stupid enough to give it to her. Campbell returns and says what they’re looking for isn’t there. Levi wonders how they’re mixed up with Mali and Mackenzie guesses it’s because of Iluka. Gordie says they need to silence the pair and Nat says to get the bag.

At the Morgan house, Justin is on the phone to Ava, wondering why she spent the whole amount. Leah comes home and, with a bit of pushing, Justin explains that Nina’s been in hospital for four days after fracturing her pelvis horse-riding. Ava has been looking after herself but has blown all the grocery money. Even though he thinks he should be with Leah with everything that’s going on at the Diner, Leah tells him he has to go.

Mackenzie is tied to a chair and gagged in the hallway. Mali arrives and goes over to her, at which point Nat and Gordie appear. Nat asks about Iluka. Mali insists they release Mackenzie first. Once they have, the group go through to the living area where Levi is also tied and gagged with Campbell watching over him. Mali does introductions and says he told Nat she’d get her money. Levi breaks free and tackles Campbell, yelling at Mackenzie to run. Gordie grabs her when she tries and Mali tries to separate them. Campbell gains the upper hand, repeatedly hitting Levi until Mali gets Nat to call him off. Mackenzie goes to him and notices a bloodied knife on the floor, saying he’s been stabbed.

Kirby explains to Rose that she didn’t think she’d gell with someone else after Theo. Rose asks if it’s serious with Iluka. Kirby initially says no, then changes it to maybe. Rose warns her to be careful but Kirby says Rose is worrying about nothing. Meanwhile, Nat is chiding Campbell while Gordie criticises him for bringing a knife. Mackenzie tries to get them to call an ambulance for Levi but Nat refuses unless Mali calls Iluka, since he’s the only one Iluka will trust. Mali is reluctant to bring him there but Nat insists she’s calling the shots.
