A stubborn Remi puts his own life at risk. Eden demands the truth from Levi. Bree starts to fall apart.
Extended Summary
Xander and Bree head down to the beach, with Xander having convinced Bree to stop hiding away in the flat. They run into Dana, who explains Harper is at work, while the three of them have the day off. Dana asks if Bree is going to spend it with Remi, which is enough to have Bree scurrying away. Dana wonders if it was something she said.
At the Morgan house, Justin tries to leave for the garage, saying they’re snowed under with Theo away. Leah says they need to sort out who’s going to talk to John first, because otherwise she’ll see him at work and have to tell him. Justin thinks it’s better coming from Leah, since she’s known John for years. Leah argues that so has Justin, prompting Justin to try and argue that John’s his landlord and he needs to stay on his good side. They eventually decide to tell him together.
Remi, in agony, tries to get out of bed. Eden comes in and supports him when he falls. Levi turns up at that point and helps Eden sit him on the bed. At the surf club, Alf and Marilyn look over the donations table. Alf is worried about Roo, who is spending all her time with Maia at the hospital. John approaches them and asks them if they want to get married, explaining about him needing to do a mock ceremony for his qualification. They both quickly say they have to work. Xander and Dana enter and John knows they aren’t working so tells them they’re getting married at ten o’clock at Xander’s and to wear something nice. Both are nonplussed.
Leah and Justin arrive at the Diner. Justin tries to use John not being there as an excuse to leave while Leah suggests they track him down at the surf club. John then enters and cheerily tells them about the mock wedding he’s set up, saying he’ll soon be certified. Justin nudges Leah but she doesn’t manage to bring herself to say anything before John leaves. As they’re debating it, Bree appears and they ask her how she is. Bree gives Justin a serve about fixing Remi’s bike and bringing it to the house. She storms off as Leah calls out that she’s out of line.
Bree goes upstairs and starts banging about in the cupboards, ranting to a bemused Xander about how she gave Justin a serve that probably was out of line, how she thought she and Remi had something special and how he threw it away over a motorbike. Xander asks if he can do something to help and she asks him to find the coffee.
Alf approaches Marilyn at the coffee cart, saying he spoke to Roo about having lunch together but she’s refusing to leave Maia. Dana appears to get some coffee and Alf explains to Marilyn about John roping her and Xander in to help him out. Dana suggests it’s karma for her opening her mouth to Peter. At the Diner flat, John is setting up the camera with Xander in position. Bree has agreed to help with the filming but notes she needs to text Justin first to apologise. Dana turns up and John explains he has to do the whole service: Introduction, declaration and monitum, plus vows which he’s written for them. He gets Bree to stop texting and start the recording, adding he asked Remi about the two of them taking part and he said no. John starts the introduction.
Levi is giving Remi an examination and says he was just at home (which Eden looks sceptical about). Remi admits he overdid the rehab. Levi says there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with his heart or lungs so it’s probably just a muscle strain or tear but he wants him to go to hospital for tests. Remi refuses. Levi and Eden leave the room and Eden explains Remi doesn’t want to see Bree. Later, Levi goes into Remi’s room and says that he understands it’s a frustrating time but there’s a difference between overdoing PT and punishing yourself because your girlfriend’s broken up with you. Remi still refuses to go to hospital.
Xander and Dana read the vows that John has written for them and exchange washers as makeshift rings. John proclaims them husband and wife before saying they’d normally kiss now. Xander asks if he’s serious and John says they don’t have to, which they appear to be relieved about. Bree walks out and Xander goes after her. He says John didn’t know. Bree understands but notes one minute you think you have a future with someone and then you don’t. She wonders if Remi is waiting for her to reach out but doesn’t want to do so because then Remi would think she’d want to try again.
Levi says Remi should have been admitted last night. Eden says she left Levi messages but he didn’t call back. Levi claims he left his phone in the car after work. Remi appears and says he’ll go to hospital and get the tests done…but not at Northern Districts. Levi protests that the only other option is Reefton Lakes and he isn’t registered to treat him there but Remi says someone will. Levi agrees.
At the Diner, John cheerily tells Leah and Justin that his assignment went well. They finally tell him they don’t want him to be the celebrant, saying he’s their friend and they want him to celebrate with them. John is disappointed but accepts it’s their wedding. As he leaves, Irene stops him, saying his heart was in the right place but he shouldn’t put the cart before the horse next time. John leaves without saying anything. Leah and Justin think he took the news well. Leah says she just wants a simple wedding. Justin says simple doesn’t mean small: She’s done this before but it’s his first and only wedding. Leah agrees it should be a celebration.
Xander runs into Dana near the surf club and jokingly calls her “wifey”. They talk about him cheering Bree up and note it might be the same for Remi. At that moment, Remi is being escorted from the house by the ambulance people. Eden gives him a hug, which hurts him, although she notes he deserves it. After they’ve gone, Levi says he has to go home. Eden tells him she rang Imogen and learned he was supposed to have been with her all week: She covered but wants to know what’s going on.
Marilyn and Dana are looking over the donations table and discuss John’s assignment. Alf appears, still worried about Roo, and wonders why Maia isn’t in foster care. Dana notes that Harper says the system is well-intentioned but not perfect. Alf tells Marilyn he’s worried this is too much for Roo. By the beach, Levi admits to Eden he lied about being with her. He says he was staying at a hotel in the city and needed some space from Imogen. Eden says lying because of work is one thing but not because he wants space from his wife. She asks if it’s because of the baby thing. Levi agrees, saying he’s under a lot of pressure and doesn’t know how to handle it.
