Felicity makes a heartfelt plea to Tane. Dana connects with a former colleague.
Extended Summary
Tane is clearing up at the gym and drops something. Harper helps him and asks about the ambulance earlier, wondering if it was for Felicity. Tane says it was Mackenzie. Harper says she’s there if he wants to talk. Tane says she’s a valuable gym client and suggests they leave it at that. Up in Salt, Felicity is surprised when Mali turns up. He explains he was sent away from the hospital so they could run tests. Felicity asks him about Tane and tries to subtly ask if he’s getting drunk and hooking up with randoms. Mali says he tries to stay out of it and Felicity realises she’s put him in a difficult position, going to get his order.
Tane is exiting the gym as Mali comes downstairs and offers him a lift home. Tane’s planning to head upstairs for a beer or three, but when Mali tells him Felicity’s there, he agrees to go home instead. Mali warns him that Felicity hasn’t let things go. Meanwhile, Irene, Harper and Dana are walking through a park area, discussing the situation with Mackenzie. Dana is enjoying her new job and says she doesn’t miss St Christopher’s. The others ask about Levi and Dana says he works at a hospital in the city. Harper asks which one and Dana hurriedly says she doesn’t remember, before adding that Mackenzie’s in good hands.
Mackenzie is alone in her room until Bree and Levi turn up. Mackenzie asks if the surgery is really necessary. Levi says he’s concerned about one of her coronary arteries. Noting her getting agitated, he tells her to close her eyes and focus on the fact she’s in the best place being looked after by people who know what they’re doing. He says he won’t stop until he’s fixed everything he can.
Next morning, Tane finishes off a class including Harper and Dana on the beach. Dana has to head off to work and Harper asks her about her odd behaviour when the specialist was mentioned. Dana admits he used to work at St Christopher’s but doesn’t think he’ll remember her, since surgeons don’t notice nurses. Felicity comes along and she and Tane look at each other awkwardly until he turns away. Mali approaches her and tells her about Mackenzie going into surgery.
Bree and Levi have installed Mackenzie back in her own room and Levi gives Dana advice on how to look after her, which she grasps easily. Levi tells Bree that Mackenzie had a torn left coronary artery which he repaired with a stent, although he’s not sure if she’ll make a full recovery yet. Bree offers him a doctor’s room to lie down in. Levi and Dana end up in a lift together. Levi realises who she is and Dana babbles that she didn’t steal drugs or anything else and the police cleared her and locked up her ex-boyfriend. Levi confirms no-one talked about anything else for weeks but he doesn’t care about gossip, just that she does a good job with the patients.
At the Diner, Irene hears the tail-end of a phone call where Alf says he thought the matter was settled. He dismisses it as silly surf club business and they discuss the fact they’ve both spoken to Marilyn, who’s enjoying herself with Jett. At the counter, Harper introduces herself to Mali, who recognises her as the keep-fit junkie who keeps hanging around Tane’s boot camps and the gym. He suggests she try surfing instead, offering a half price introductory class. Harper gets a phone call.
At the surf club, Felicity is coming downstairs when Tane comes in. He goes to walk on but she convinces him to stop, saying she’s been lashing out because she couldn’t face the fact it was her fault but she knows what she did was unforgivable. Tane tries to walk on but Felicity says she’ll never stop loving him. Tane says she’s right that what she did was unforgivable, and doesn’t turn back when she asks him not to give up on them. He goes to the gym office and tries to do paperwork but clearly can’t concentrate.
Alf helps Irene carry some things to the coffee cart and gets another surf club text. Nearby, Dana tells Harper that Levi does remember her but was actually all right about it. They tell Irene that Harper has been offered a job as a social worker at Northern District Health. Dana heads back to work. Irene overhears Alf on the phone, saying they should be supporting “him”.
At the hospital, Bree gets called down to emergency and leaves Levi with Mackenzie. Moments later, Mackenzie comes round. Levi tells her about repairing the tear and explains it was the result of something called spontaneous coronary artery dissection, which no-one really knows the cause of. He suggests letting her friends know they can visit.
Mali goes to see Felicity at Salt, having heard from Bree that Mackenzie’s surgery went well. He has come to collect Mackenzie’s phone, which Xander says she left there. He offers to take Felicity with him to visit but Felicity doesn’t think Mackenzie would want to see her and thinks the best thing she can do is keep Salt running. She calls Cash, saying she’s thought about what he said about owning her mistakes and asking to talk. Down in the gym, Tane is punching a bag in a frenzy. Harper comes in and asks if he’s okay. Tane walks out without answering.
Alf comes into the Diner in a grumpy mood. He tells Irene that John’s apology to Banjo apparently wasn’t enough and the complaint’s been escalated. Normally, it would just be a slap on the wrist, but Banjo’s father is Simon Henderson, owner of Henderson’s Real Estate and the surf club’s major sponsor. He’s threatening to withdraw his sponsorship so John may lose his job, which Alf will have to tell him.
Harper follows Tane to overlooking the beach and says she knows what someone who’s struggling looks like. Tane says he doesn’t need a social worker. Harper suggests he needs someone to talk to.
