Extended Summary

Justin and Theo have just finished a surf, Justin’s first since getting out of hospital. He tells Theo that he and Leah have set a wedding date, admitting he was too focused on getting back in the water to mention it before. John comes along in his buggy and refuses to give Theo a lift, saying it’s for surf club business only. Not too far away, Tane attempts to dismiss Harper’s attempt to talk to him, saying he’s setting up for a self-defence class. Harper says that means he’ll be free in an hour. He tells her to join in if she’s sticking around. She reminds him it’s her second class of the day as he greets the others.

Alf tells Irene that John’s apology should have been the end of it and Henderson’s not taking his calls. He’s hoping he can get the committee to take John’s side. Roo turns up, saying she’s finished her rehab at the hospital and will be able to exercise at the gym from now on. Sje gets a muted response and Alf explains about the surf club problems.

At the Morgan house, Justin notes Leah has gone for brunch with Theo’s mum to discuss the wedding. Theo says she won’t be back until tonight. Justin comments on Theo, who has just finished a TAFE assignment, having time to play video games while he has wedding planning, community service, managing the garage and Lyrik, and anger management this afternoon. Theo warns him to be careful or they might think it’s not working. Justin decides he can spend half an hour playing video games with Theo.

Irene and Roo both think the complaints against John are ridiculous and he’s a good teacher. Alf gets a text saying the surf club have called an executive meeting and John won’t be invited, just have his fate decided. John turns up and chats to Alf and Roo about her rehab, the nippers barbecue and Marilyn’s holiday with Jett. Roo tells Alf he needs to tell John. Alf offers to pay for John’s coffee, leaving him wondering who died.They go for a walk in a park area where Alf fills John in, saying Henderson went behind his back to the committee. John wants a meeting with the committee to tell his side of the story but Alf tells him to keep his head down.

Harper helps Tane carry things to the gym but then tells her she can go and that he doesn’t need a counsellor. Harper protests that she’s a social worker and says she always thought Kiwis were friendly but tells a story about a rugby game where Kiwis poured beer over her seat after the Aussies scored a try. It’s enough to get Tane to relax.

Justin and Theo finish their game with Justin winning. Theo gets a text from Kirby saying she’s tweaked the lyrics. He reminds Justin where he has to be. Justin complains about spending months talking about his feelings. He wonders about the texts and Theo says he and Kirby are just mates in a band. After Justin has gone, he looks at another text where Kirby tells him to check his e-mails.

Tane and Harper go for a walk where Tane recalls Felicity trying to bluff her way through things. He says he thought it was forever when he made his wedding vows but that all went in that moment when he saw the pills. He admits he still loves Felicity but she’s kept on lying to him so he thinks it’s over. Harper wonders if that’s the hurt talking.

Alf and John arrive at the surf club. John wonders why Banjo said everything was good and Alf suggests he was telling him what he wants to hear. John wants to call Banjo back, then realises there’s something Alf isn’t telling him. Alf tells him about the executive meeting. Meanwhile, Irene and Roo continue to discuss the injustice of the situation after everything John’s down for the club, including the cocktails night. Roo mentions the executive meeting. John arrives and calls himself a dead man walking: The club aren’t going to choose him over Henderson’s money.

Down on the beach, Harper asks Tane if he knows the answer yet. Tane says he’s been fighting for his relationship with Felicity ever since they met and can’t separate the marriage from the pain. Harper says it sounds like he knows the answer. Tane agrees that there’s no way back and their marriage is over. At the Diner, John continues to lament his situation to Irene and Roo. He apologises for going on but they tell him he’s been worse with less reason in the past. Irene asks John to help her take some supplies to the coffee cart.

Roo goes to the surf club and talks to Alf about what’s going on. Alf insists that he’ll put John’s case to the committee but thinks his word won’t count for much since they’re annoyed he tried to deal with the complaint himself. Tane and Harper come in and Harper tells Tane about getting a job, saying she’ll have to work her gym around it. She insists she’s just been helping him as a friend. Tane gets a text from Mackenzie saying she’s feeling better.

John tells Irene that the executive meeting is a big deal. Irene thinks the committee will stand by him. John says they need to hear his side of the story and Irene agrees. At the surf club, Alf is showing committee members upstairs. John turns up and wants to talk to the meeting. Alf says that’s not how it works and leaves him downstairs. Roo tries to convince John that Alf has his back.

Theo is on the phone to Kirby, saying he can’t come round because he doesn’t want to make Justin suspicious. Justin arrives back, saying he’s been signed off on his anger management. He says he’s making a celebration meal for Leah. Theo is happy to make himself scarce. Later, Justin has the table set when he gets a phone call from Rose. After hearing her news, he asks if Leah’s okay.

John and Roo continue to wait as Alf comes down after only a short amount of time. Alf refuses to tell John the outcome, saying he’ll be told formally. John accuses Alf of loving this, saying he’s never missed an opportunity to have a dig. Alf insists he’s on John’s side this time. John walks out, not believing it, leaving Alf looking sombre.
