Kirby yearns for her best friend. Marilyn gives Roo an ultimatum. “Magic Mali” goes viral.

Extended Summary

Justin and Theo have just finished their surf. Theo says Marilyn looked like she’d been crying when he got home and lightly complains about Justin not managing to tell her she wasn’t welcome. Justin says they’ll have to accept her for now. They run into Kirby and Justin jokingly asks if she needs any help with the launch, before they promise they’ll be there.

Back at the house, Leah tells Marilyn she’s going to go and pick up Roo and advises her to give her space. Justin and Theo arrive back and Theo quickly jumps in the shower. Justin isn’t happy about being left alone with Marilyn, worrying that she might start crying. Leah tells him he’ll cope. Justin offers Marilyn a cup of tea. Marilyn says she’s drinking hot water with lemon and tearfully recalls Roo introduced her to it. Justin awkwardly asks if she wants milk and sugar, as Marilyn goes to get more tissues.

At the coffee cart, Irene complains to John about Cash being suspended despite Dana being innocent. John says it doesn’t look good for her then, before apologising for thinking out loud. Irene says she’s hoping to fly under the radar. Kirby arrives and John notes his invite for her launch has been mislaid, recalling their golfing together. Kirby says she only has so many invitations and John agrees she wouldn’t want him and Irene there. They discuss her doing it on her own. Kirby heads back to the Diner flat where Rose shows her a rack of outfits that Forrest dropped off. Kirby explains that they’re on loan and she has to pick one for the launch. Rose suggests she try them on.

Marilyn asks Justin if he thinks Roo’s being fair, telling him to be honest. Justin says Marilyn’s made some dodgy choices and her life’s like a blender without the lid sometimes, so advises her to give Roo space. Theo emerges from the bathroom and Justin quickly heads into the shower. Marilyn offers to make Theo scrambled tofu for breakfast and he decides to go tidy his room. Marilyn gets a call from Alf and confirms that Roo’s getting out today, saying she’ll look after her.

A short time later, Leah brings Roo back to the caravan park house only for them to find Marilyn there, saying she wanted to welcome her home. Roo and Leah drop subtle and not-so suggestions that Marilyn should leave but she says she’s not finished.

Leah goes over to Marilyn and reminds her that she’s meant to be giving Roo space. Marilyn says she doesn’t like lying to Alf, so she’s going to do what she promised and look after Roo, even if she’s not living there. Roo tries to get them both to leave. Leah gets a text saying she’s needed to sort a catering order, so has to leave Roo with Marilyn. At the Diner, John suggests to Irene that she should get in touch with a lawyer to see where she stands. Leah turns up and Irene apologises for dragging her in. Leah sees Justin and Theo and asks them about Marilyn. They say they thought she’d gone for a walk.

Kirby shows off a silver dress to Rose, who says she likes the colour (as she did with the last two) but doesn’t know much about fashion. Kirby panics about something going wrong. Rose suggests they go for a walk. Kirby actually manages to leave the house in the dress before Rose suggests she get changed. Later, the two of them are walking in a park area. Kirby explains this is the first time she’s having to go on stage on her own, meaning everything will be analysed. Rose invites her for a coffee.

Roo continues to try to get Marilyn to go away while Marilyn continues to insist that Roo needs her there. Roo says she’ll prove she doesn’t, getting up and walking over to the kitchen. Despite Marilyn hovering and offering advice and help, Roo manages to make herself a sandwich and then announces she’s going to eat it on the veranda alone.

At the coffee cart, Rose wonders how Kirby used to pick outfits for Lyrik gigs. Kirby says she and Eden used to go to second hand shops, buy a load of things and then drink shots while they decided which ones to wear. Rose realises that’s the real issue: Kirby misses Eden. They head back to the flat where Rose gestures to a couple of outfits, including a “fun” blue one and a short gold one that she isn’t sure is a top or a skirt. Kirby hits on an idea; Rose will photograph her in three outfits, then she’ll put them on social media and get her fans to vote which one they like best. She picks out the gold outfit, which she says is obviously a dress.

Irene asks Leah to look after the Diner for a while since she and John are going to see a lawyer in Yabbie Creek. She tries to be vague about the reasons but John casually explains she hid Harper’s sister Dana while she was on the run but has been cleared now. Leah approaches Justin and Theo, saying she was going to take some food over to Roo and asking them to go. Justin says he has garage accounts to do. Theo is looking at Kirby’s photos and distractedly agrees to go, then wonders what he’s agreed to.

Roo comes back into the house. Marilyn thinks she’s overdone it while Roo blames Marilyn for stressing her. She still wants her to go while Marilyn still insists Roo can’t be left alone. Theo arrives to interrupt the argument.

Kirby is looking over the votes and tells Rose she also tagged Salt to get votes from the locals, noting even Theo voted. She says there’s a frontrunner which was her favourite anyway. She then tells Rose something has come up on the Salt tag: A video of Mali’s dancing. Meanwhile, Theo is a helpless observer as Marilyn insists on staying and Roo insists she wants her to go. Marilyn pulls out her phone and says that if Roo doesn’t let her stay, she’ll call Alf and tell him what’s going on.
