Has Dana sabotaged her own case? Samuel re-enters Rose’s orbit. John sets out to impress Alf.
Extended Summary
Mali finishes off a lesson on the beach as Mackenzie comes over and joins him. John pulls up in his buggy and says that Alf has finally signed off on one of his proposals, so he needs a good idea for the team building or Alf will never do it again. Mali suggests giving them a surf lesson but John says they’re not as spry as they were. At that, Mali heads off to see Rose.
Back at the Diner flat, Xander and Rose are taking down the banner and balloons. Xander notes it was a good thing Rose did for Kirby but is glad to have the place to themselves. Xander’s phone rings with a call from their mum. Xander makes it clear he isn’t happy about having to lie to her about Rose seeing Samuel. Mali turns up and Xander takes the opportunity to head into his room to answer the call. Rose and Mali head out for a walk.
Dana is playing loud music at the beach house, while dreaming of getting her life back and getting to go clubbing and shopping. Harper turns the music off, saying Dana has to keep a low profile until then. Dana is confident, saying Harper was right about Cash. Harper says it can’t have been easy seeing Olly’s statement and Dana says she knows she was wrong about him now. Harper heads out to get food and Dana turns the music back on.
At the surf club, John tries to get Alf’s input on his ideas but Alf thinks he’s just after someone to share the blame if it goes wrong and walks out. Mackenzie stops to talk and John suggests it’s times like this you know who your friends are. Mackenzie agrees to help him, provided she can take the recycling out first.
Marilyn serves Mali and Rose at the coffee cart and says they’re gorgeous together. Once she’s out of earshot, they talk about finding Samuel. Mali points out that Xandra’s in a tough spot and reminds her that asking Elandra to lie to his mum backfired on him. Rose tries to claim it’s different and says she’d do the same for Xander. She also isn’t ready to see Samuel again.
At the flat, Xander is just starting to relax on the sofa when Samuel knocks on the door. Xander tells him that Rose isn’t in and he doesn’t know when she’ll be back. Samuel confirms he’s Rose’s father and Xander says to come in and he’ll let her know he’s there. He sends Rose a text.
At Salt, John is showing Mackenzie his ideas. She is bemused that they include sandcastle building. She suggests a barbecue, scavenger hunt, movie night and trivia night, all of which he rejects. John suggests a meal on the house while they think. Nearby, Cash meets Harper and tells her when he got to the restaurant, he was told he’d just missed the other cop: The restaurant person handed over a USB to someone they guess was Madden. They head to the beach house and quickly dampen Dana’s enthusiasm, saying there’s something they have to tell her.
At the coffee cart, Alf and Marilyn chat about the fact that Bree can’t do anything to help bring Roo home. Marilyn notes Alf’s having to make long trips but Alf is more worried about Roo. Nearby, Rose wonders why Samuel’s turned up, telling Mali she told him she’d contact him. Mali points out she can’t leave Xander to handle it.
Back at the flat, Xander gets Samuel a drink and Samuel wonders how long he and Rose have been flatmates. Before Xander can answer, Rose and Mali arrive. Rose explains Xander’s her brother and Xander clarifies that he’s Yvette’s son. Xander quickly leaves, while Mali introduces himself to Samuel as Rose’s boyfriend. Rose confirms that a heads up would have been good but accepts that he’s there.
Mackenzie suggests an escape room but John says Gerald’s claustrophobic. She jokes about a private Lyrik gig. Xander comes in and asks if he can make himself a drink, starting to mix a cocktail. This gives John an idea: Teaching the committee how to make cocktails and mocktails. Later, Mackenzie is chatting with Xander on the balcony and he explains about the situation with Rose and Samuel and having to lie to his mother. Mackenzie says the offer to stay at hers is still open.
Cash insists that the description he was given is Madden and he and Harper wonder how he knew about it. Dana looks awkward and admits using Harper’s phone to call Olly and tell him about the CCTV. Harper quickly realises that if Olly told Madden, that proves they’re in contact. They talk the matter over: Olly can’t be that high up but must be important to Madden, who must have done things like this before. Harper is worried about Cash getting involved but he’s determined to put a stop to it.
At the Diner, Alf is on the phone to Roo, telling her to just concentrate on her recovery. Rose, Mali and Samuel come in and Samuel guesses they don’t sell vetkoek, a doughy bread that he offers to show Rose how to make. Mali asks Alf about Roo, and Rose introduces Samuel to him as her biological father. She asks Samuel about heading home but he’s planning to stay somewhere overnight. Mali suggests the motel or caravan park. Rose suddenly leaves and Mali goes after her. Rose criticises him for encouraging Samuel to stay, despite Mali pointing out he could have easily booked somewhere himself. Rose says she wasn’t ready to see Samuel again and asks to be left alone. Mali tells her to work out what her problem is.
Next morning, Samuel goes to see Rose at the flat. He gives her a bracelet that belonged to her grandmother, saying it’s part of her heritage, and offers to tell her about their family whenever she wants. Rose suggests now.
