Cash and Justin come face to face with Vita Nova. Xander consoles Kate. Who is sending Marilyn threats?

Extended Summary

Cash paces in front of hostile-looking cult members until Margot approaches and suggests this is harassment. Cash says he’s received a complaint. Margot points out there aren’t any neighbours around and threatens to talk to his superiors. Cash says she didn’t do that before, suggesting she doesn’t want the police looking into things. Justin is dragged over and tells Cash they have to go. Cash tries to get Andrew to come with them but he doesn’t respond. Cash and Justin leave. Margot asks Andrew what he said to Justin. Andrew says he did what she said. Despite his protests, Margot orders him taken to “the room”.

Mackenzie and Xander are finishing off after a surf on the beach. John says he’ll be at Salt for a meal later and Mackenzie jokingly asks if she should call the press. Mackenzie asks Xander about Rose and Mali, since she hasn’t seen him in days. Xander confirms they’re back together but is having a hard time dealing with them being all over each other. He asks how much he has to pay for them to move to Mackenzie’s. Later, he is propping up the bar in Salt to avoid going home and even asks Mackenzie if he can work a shift. At that moment, however, Kate turns up, saying Timothy’s with his mother and she’s at a loose end. Xander quickly cancels the shift to spend time with her.

Back at the Morgan house, Cash asks Justin to run through what happened. Justin tells him about Andrew summoning the guards. Cash suggests Andrew might have known there were guards nearby and notes he looked worried for Justin when they left. Leah chooses that moment to come home and Cash leaves. Justin asks about her mother-in-law, who has been moved into a nursing home, and then tells her to sit down.

At the Diner, Marilyn is looking over the photos she received. John and Roo come in and Marilyn briefly tries to pass off her distracted behaviour as absentmindedness. They aren’t fooled though, so she shows them the photos. Roo says she has to report it. Marilyn agrees, although she’s not expecting anything to be done. John says he’ll take them after the shift. Back at the Morgan house, Justin has filled Leah in. He doesn’t think Andrew will be punished because he’s on the cult’s side now. Leah checks Justin hasn’t told Andrew about his mother. Justin thinks Andrew’s been brainwashed back into the cult.

Xander recalls how Jamie used to talk about Timothy’s merit certificates. Kate tells him that she’s supposed to be sharing custody of Timothy with his mother but is seeing him less and less. She says none of her other friends knew Jamie as well as Xander did. Mackenzie comes over and Xander officially introduces her to Kate. Kate invites Xander to have dinner with her and Mackenzie says she’ll arrange a table for them.

Marilyn, John and Roo arrive at the police station and show Cash the photos. Cash says Marilyn was right to bring it in. He’ll organise police patrols of her home and work. Roo says she’ll be with Marilyn tonight. Cash says that he’ll hold onto the phone, even though nothing was found last time. He tries to assure her that usually people don’t follow through on threats like this. Marilyn says they must do sometimes or he wouldn’t be organising patrols.

Justin checks on Leah after she’s had a shower and says Theo knows she’s home but is at a gig. She asks why he didn’t tell her what was happening. Justin thinks there was nothing she could have done. Leah thinks things might have gone differently. She berates herself for ignoring the fact that Andrew didn’t remember Margot and she didn’t remember his toy, saying they told him he could trust them and they’d look after him, and they let him down.

Mackenzie serves Xander some coffees and asks about Kate. Xander tells her Rose and Mali are staying at hers tonight. Kate prepares to go but isn’t keen to be home alone, saying she’ll go and see friends. Xander suggests she spend the night in Rose’s room. John comes home for a pizza and finds Cash drinking alone at the bar. They briefly chat about Marilyn before Cash says it’s been a long day and John offers to share the pizza with him.

At the Diner flat, Xander tells Kate a story about how he and Jamie got called to an apartment block about a suspected heart attack and were mistaken for strippers by a hen party. After finding that the heart attack was just a panic attack, Xander found Jamie telling the hens about how he and Kate first met. Kate gets teary and Xander hugs her.

Next morning, Mackenzie finds Justin by the beach and encourages him to go surfing. Cash turns up and Mackenzie realises she’s in the way and leaves. Justin says Leah’s devastated. Cash says they can go back there but Andrew could tell them to go away again. He says they can hope the taskforce link the murder to the cult but there might be nothing more they can do. Cash runs into John, who says Marilyn’s relying on him. Marilyn and Roo are waiting at the police station when Cash turns up. He checks the report and says a fake number was used again. He can call Stunning Organics and try and scare them off, but there’s no evidence against them. He suggests Marilyn puts her safety first and stops giving interviews.

Xander and Kate walk near the beach and she thanks him for letting her stay, saying the cry helped. She notes Timothy’s grandparents are taking him to his first football game and it’s a big deal for a five-year-old. She hopes he’ll cope without Jamie being there and asks if Xander will come and watch the game with her, saying she understands if it’s too much. Xander agrees.

The two of them run into Mackenzie near the surf club. Kate gets a phone call and tells Xander she’ll send him the address and meet him there. Mackenzie asks Xander about Kate staying at his and says she knows what it’s like to lose the love of your life and Kate might be getting a bit too dependant on him. She suggests he sets boundaries.

Leah is trying to do baking at home but keeps having flashes of Andrew. When Justin comes in, she angrily asks why he didn’t save Andrew. She says he went in twice and didn’t come back with him. Justin says there was thirty people there and Andrew wouldn’t come. He asks what Leah would have done. She can’t think of anything but says she wouldn’t have given up: Letting Andrew go is on them, but leaving him there is on him. Justin walks out.
