Extended Summary

Theo and Mali banter after a surf. Kirby appears and tells Theo they have to meet up with the rest of the band for a rehearsal. Mali wonders when he’s going to get to hear Lyrik play and Kirby says they’ll be doing their regular gig at Salt soon. Back at the caravan park house, Alf tries to referee between Marilyn and Roo. Marilyn insists she’s just trying to help Jett and Lindsay while Roo accuses her of being reckless with people’s health. Alf admits he agrees with Roo that Marilyn’s business seems to have gone pear-shaped. Marilyn protests that Roo’s reaction is just one person, before saying she’s wasting her breath and heading off to work. Alf goes after her.

Marilyn reaches the coffee cart, telling Alf she has to start work now. She gives Theo and Kirby their coffees and admits she’s had some bad reviews. Kirby offers to help but Theo reminds her about the rehearsal. After they’ve gone, Alf argues that Marilyn can’t be 100% confident about the products and accuses her of risking people’s health to make money.

At the Lyrik house, Remi demonstrates a lead-in to Eden. Theo and Kirby show up and Remi allows a brief caffeine fix before starting on the song, also telling Kirby to put her phone away. He reminds them the gig’s tomorrow and they need to get Eden’s song sorted before then. Eden looks awkward when asked for the arrangement.

Mali offers to help John measure up the juice bar. John rather caustically asks if he expects to be paid. He announces he’s come up with ideas for the revamp himself and is thinking the main colour should be orange. He shows Mali some notes he’s done, consisting of cut-out pictures with rather basic notes and sketches. Mali struggles to say something nice about it.

An awkward rehearsal sees Theo come in with the wrong section and Eden worry about the harmonies and the keyboard part. Theo asks for a five minute break while Eden wonders if they should drop the song. Remi gets annoyed and walks out. Eden follows him through a park area, wondering what’s going on with him. She says they’re meant to be the chill ones. Remi admits he’s been thinking about the future and wants to take Lyrik to the next level but doesn’t know how. Eden teasingly compliments him on behaving like an adult.

Alf arrives home. Roo is recovering and Alf tells her he thinks he gave Marilyn something to think about. He thinks Roo should offer an olive branch and Roo accepts the point. At the Diner, Marilyn is on the phone asking the Stunning Organics support team about compensation for clients who have reactions. She asks to speak to their supervisor and gets hung up on. Roo has come in during the talk and Marilyn says she was just told to look at their terms and conditions. Roo suggests she do research on their other customers.

At the surf club, John is asking Alf about the renovations, saying if they only do up half of the club, the other half looks shabby. Alf says John will have to put it to the committee and that will include estimates of how long it will take, at least two quotes and design details. Mali looks on with sympathy.

Theo wonders why Remi and Eden walked out, thinking they’d have sorted it out soon. Kirby comments on Eden writing a song when she herself hasn’t managed one in a while. Theo tries to reassure her but Kirby thinks she’s lost focus. Later, the four of them do a polished rehearsal of an upbeat arrangement of the song which leaves all of them delighted.

Marilyn looks at the company website which is full of positive reviews. Roo shows her a consumer website which includes a review from a customer who got a rash like Roo’s and was refused a refund. Marilyn finds another one from a brand ambasador who kept “accidentally” being sent extra product. Roo notes that they’re exploiting people.

Not long after, Roo and Marilyn are walking near the surf club with Marilyn leaving a phone message saying she’s cancelling her contract. She confirms it feels good. She then goes over to John and tells him she won’t be able to contribute to Jett’s wedding. John is fine with it, saying he’ll just do what he first said and tell Jett it’s from both of them.

Remi calls an end to rehearsal. Kirby says she has to get off to the Diner and stops to compliment Eden on the song, saying Lyrik has another song writer. Theo comments on where they’d be if Remi was always fired up like this. At the surf club, Mali says his goodbyes to John. John looks over his notes, finally giving up and going to the office to bin them. He then notices a file on the desk full of design ideas, with a note saying it’s on the house c/o Manta Ray Boards. John looks touched.

Kirby arrives at the Diner and jabbers to Marilyn that she can’t wait to be back on the road with the band. Marilyn gets a phone call from Stunning Organics which clearly doesn’t go how she was hoping. She tells Kirby that she’s been told she can’t get out of the contract for a year and has to keep paying them. Later, they fill in Alf and Irene on the situation; Marilyn signed a twelve month contract. Kirby goes to close the coffee cart as Marilyn explains she has to sell the boxes she’s got and will keep being sent more. Irene doesn’t think that’s legal. Alf wants to ask Roo for advice but Marilyn doesn’t want her to know. Alf and Irene decide to go over the contract.

Eden is heading out to meet Cash at Salt. Remi says he’ll come with her to get takeaway. Eden wonders what he’s up to and he gestures for her to look at the laptop: He’s looking at recording studios because he thinks it’s time they recorded an album.
