Extended Summary

Down on the beach, Nikau asks John if he should move the flags but John is distracted, talking about his public humiliation from Alf’s e-mail. Nikau adds that Gerald was looking for him. He sees Tane and goes to talk to him. Tane says he just got back but has a class to set up. At the Diner, Roo asks Alf if he needs any help and Alf says he needs his old system back. Roo tries to tell him how to look up the minutes but Alf complains about John’s attitude. John comes in and wonders if Irene’s about, saying he needs a friendly face to download to. Alf accuses him of acting like a five-year-old. John says it takes one to know one.

Marilyn continues to advise Ziggy, saying she could grow her own vegetables. Ziggy observes they have the land. Dean suggests Marilyn needs to get back to work. Marilyn offers to bring crystals to clear out air pollutants and negative emotions. She is apparently oblivious to Dean’s sarcasm. After Marilyn has gone, Dean suggests to Ziggy that this is too much but Ziggy says it’s the bigger picture.

Down on the beach, Gabe apologises to Mackenzie for not telling her what’s going on. Mackenzie asks if he was really planning to just up and leave her again. She tries to convince him to rebook the tests, saying she’ll go with him. Gabe says he’s not going to have them and wouldn’t want Mackenzie involved if he did.

Roo tries to encourage Alf over the fact he did a spreadsheet in a short amount of time and also urges him to apologise to John. Alf thinks they should just move on. Marilyn offers crystal therapy to help with negative energy and Roo says it’s that or apologising to John. Alf goes to the surf club with Roo in tow and tells John the e-mail wasn’t his finest hour and he’s sorry. John isn’t willing to accept it however, saying Alf’s told everyone he’s useless and incompetent. Roo doesn’t help by saying he only meant to send it to Gerald. Alf accuses John of overreacting and John threatens to report him to the police for harassment or defamation.

Ziggy maintains to Dean that she’s creating a healthy environment. Dean says they need to relax and that he used to eat dirt. He agrees to her making some changes but says not to go overboard. Ziggy accepts it. Moments later, a familiar voice calls out and Bella steps in, with her bags. At Salt, Mackenzie ends a phone call. John comes over and comments that they both seem to be having a lousy day. Mackenzie says she thought everything was finally fallling into place. John agrees.

Alf storms back into the Diner, telling Roo that John isn’t going to get away with threatening him, and briefly fills Marilyn in on what happened. Roo tries to argue that John’s all bark and no bite but Alf says he’ll call for a vote of no confidence if he tries it. At the Parata house, Nikau offers Tane a sandwich but he’s on his way out. Nikau asks how he feels about Felicity. Tane says he doesn’t want to talk about it and there’s nothing anyone can do. Nikau refuses to drop it.

Bella is now cradling Izzy and discussing how things have been going with Ziggy and Dean, saying they did good. She explains she finished her exhibition and it was the best chance to meet Izzy. She confirms she’s been smashing it, says she’s there for five days and confirms she’s happy in New York, apart from missing them. Ziggy goes to give Izzy a feed and Dean asks Bella if she’s going to ask about “him”. Bella pretends not to know who she means and goes in the shower.

Gabe comes into Salt. Mackenzie tells him she’s done research and tries to convince him it’s possible to go into remission again. Gabe is dismissive of the idea and says she doesn’t know what he went through, calling it a waste of time. Mackenzie is upset that he’s given up. They head down to the beach where Gabe admits he hasn’t handled it well. He says he doesn’t want her to watch him die. Mackenzie tries to convince him to fight, saying she’ll be there and she loves him. Gabe agrees to take the tests and to fight it if it’s cancer.

Bella talks about seeing Mackenzie again. Dean asks if she’s planning to catch up with someone else. Bella insists she doesn’t care if she sees Nikau or not, she’s just there to see Izzy and her family. She wonders about Ziggy asking her to wash her hands and Dean tells her they had a scare. Bella suggests they go to Salt while Ziggy and Izzy are sleeping.

Tane tells Nikau he wishes he could get Felicity out of his head. Nikau admits he felt stuck after breaking up with Bella and still does sometimes. Tane says he’s glad Nikau has his back. Nikau gets a text from John asking him to go into work to help pack up. Tane heads to the bedroom. At the surf club, Nikau finishes his work and John asks him to proof read an e-mail. Nikau is shocked that it’s an official complaint to the surf club committee. John closes the office door, meaning they just miss seeing Dean and Bella come in.

Mackenzie and Gabe are up in Salt when Dean and Bella arrive. Mackenzie is delighted to see Bella, giving her a tight hug and offering a coming home dinner. Bella wonders who Gabe is and Mackenzie introduces him as her boyfriend. Dean quietly chats to Mackenzie. Nikau comes in and is shocked to see Bella. They greet each other. Back at the house, Tane packs up Felicity’s things and sends her a text asking her to pick them up asap.

Dean, Mackenzie and Gabe watch Bella and Nikau talking from a distance. Mackenzie wonders if she needs rescuing. Dean thinks it needs to happen and the pair don’t need an audience, going to wait for Bella downstairs. Nikau tries to make small talk but Bella says he made things clear when he dumped her and it was the best thing that could have happened since her life is amazing, so they’re cool. She says it was good to see him and walks away. Nikau looks upset.
