Extended Summary

Nikau and Heather meet up on the beach. He comments that she’s looking good and asks if she grew up near water. Heather dodges the question and instead asks if his buggy helps him pick up chicks. Nikau offers to buy her a drink. Heather says she’ll check her schedule, then agrees. At the caravan park house, Marilyn apologises to Leah for lashing out, saying she felt ambushed. She realises everyone thinks she’s losing her mind again. Leah asks if she’s still taking her medication. Marilyn says she is but isn’t sure if it needs reviewing. Leah suggests she meet with her doctor and apologise to Heather. Marilyn agrees.

Heather is sat in the Diner and quickly opens up her laptop when Roo comes in. Roo admits they’re worried about Marilyn. She is pleased to see Heather studying and offers to help out free of charge. Heather says she’s waiting for Nikau but reluctantly agrees. Up in the flat, Xander asks Rose what the taskforce wanted. Rose says the court date has been set and she’s also been recommended for a commendation for showing initiative in taking down organised crime. However, she says she doesn’t feel like being rewarded for getting her friend shot.

Nikau has joined Roo and Heather as Roo looks over Heather’s work. Roo says it’s ready to submit but also asks Heather to do the essay she set her. Nikau teases Heather for not doing her homework and Roo threatens to set him some. Leah and Marilyn come in and Marilyn goes over to apologise to Heather. Roo gives them space as Marilyn apologises for her behaviour and also says sorry to Nikau for being rude and judgemental. Nikau steps out to take a call from John, and Heather tells Marilyn she can always talk to her about her mental health issues. Marilyn asks who talked to her about that and Heather looks over at Leah and Roo. She reiterates that Marilyn can talk to her but Marilyn says that’s what her doctor is for and pulls away. Nikau watches them through the window.

Nikau and Heather go back to the Parata house. Nikau notes there still seems to be tension between Heather and Marilyn. Heather wonders why Marilyn needed to apologise to Nikau and realises it was about her. Nikau says it was more about him moving on quickly and that they haven’t got to know each other. Heather points out there wasn’t much time between the gig and his bedroom. Nikau asks where she came from and she jokes that she’s Danish royalty who escaped to live with the peasants but the palace cancelled her credit cards. Nikau gets a text from Tane about the court date being set.

Back at the caravan park house, Leah tells Roo that Marilyn said all the right things but she’s not sure she meant them. Marilyn arrives home and is surprised to see Leah there. Leah quickly leaves. Roo offers to heat up a plate for Marilyn but she says she’s not hungry. Roo thanks her for apologising to Heather and Marilyn apologises for lashing out at Roo. Marilyn asks if Roo told Heather about her mental health issues. Roo said she didn’t and Marilyn asks her to not talk about her to Heather. Roo goes upstairs to work and Marilyn says she’ll see her in the morning. Once alone, she starts searching through her bag.

Heather suggests using vodka to play Never Have I Ever. She says she’s never joined the mile high club and Nikau goes to drink then laughs. He says he’s never backpacked around Europe, which he admits is lame. Heather says she’s never been in a gang war. Nikau says it’s getting late and Heather offers to tuck him in. They kiss.

Rose is stood on the balcony and tells Xander she can’t sleep. Xander thinks she should take the commendation but Rose insists she didn’t deserve it: She only found out about the situation because she was sleeping with a criminal and wishes she’d never met Tex. She suggests she could refuse the commendation. At the caravan park house, Marilyn is asleep on the sofa. Heather lets herself in and sees her. She goes to the pantry and takes a bottle of wine, pouring a decent chunk of it down the sink. She then places the remains of the bottle and a wine glass on the table next to Marilyn.

Next morning, Rose is finishing a swim on the beach. She has flashbacks to Felicity having a go at her at the hospital, being with Cash during the raid and tending to him when he was wounded. She goes back to the flat and tells Xander she’s made a decision. He’s pleased until she tells him she’s going to refuse the commendation. Xander says she’s always wanted something like this. Rose says she joined the police to make a difference to people: She can still do that but doesn’t want a medal that will always remind her that she got Cash shot.

Marilyn wakes up on the sofa: The wine glass now has a small amount of wine in it and the baby photo is resting on top of her. Roo comes down and is surprised that Marilyn slept there. Marilyn says she didn’t mean to doze off. Roo says she must have had a big night. Confused by the wine glass, Marilyn says she didn’t. She goes up to freshen up with Roo saying she’ll have a cup of tea waiting for her.

Heather arrives at the Diner and asks Leah if she’s heard from Marilyn. Leah says Marilyn will be in soon. Heather says she’s glad Marilyn’s apologised but was surprised she had a go at Nik. Leah points out she apologised for that as well. Nikau comes in and comments on Heather being gone when he woke up. Heather says she had to get ready for a study session with Roo. Marilyn comes in and Heather gives her a pointed look. Leah asks how she is. Marilyn says she knows Leah has been talking about her to Roo and goes to start work.

Rose tells Xander she doesn’t want to discuss it any further. Xander says he was just going to ask if she wanted coffee. Rose goes to get ready for work. Once she’s gone, Xander calls Cash and says he needs help. Down in the Diner, Nikau wonders why Heather isn’t suffering as much as him. Heather suggests she might be tougher or just still drunk. Leah checks if they want anything more. Heather asks Marilyn if she had a nice sleep. Marilyn nervously says she did, then retreats into the kitchen. Heather calls it weird. Leah follows Marilyn who shows her the photo, explaining where she found it and saying Heather broke in and put it there.

Marilyn and Leah walk by the beach. Leah wonders why Heather would leave the photo, take it and then put it back. Marilyn says it’s some kind of a game to her. Leah asks why Marilyn. Roo comes along and checks how Marilyn is. Marilyn is rather short with her and Roo says she’ll leave them to it. Leah asks why Marilyn didn’t tell Roo what’s going on. Marilyn says Roo thinks she’s got it in for Heather. She refuses to talk further, saying she’ll have a break and then get back to work.
