Extended Summary

Rose finishes off her phone call. Tex comes along and reminds her they met before, then admits they didn’t really meet. He introduces himself and, with a bit of prodding, she tells him her name as well. He offers to buy her a coffee but she declines. Meanwhile, Irene is extolling the virtues of the flat to Xander, who is on board. Rose turns up and Xander tells her they have a fridge and kitchen so they can actually cook there and they won’t have someone yodelling in the early hours of the morning. Irene leaves them to it, telling Xander to drop the key back. Xander offers to let Rose take the bigger room. Rose says she tried to get her sergeant to put her and Cash on different shifts, but since he can’t, she’ll have to leave Summer Bay.

John and Nikau hurry out of the surf club, having got a call about a surfer who hit his head on the rocks. They drive down there and get hailed down by Tex, who rescued the guy. Another lifesaver is with them and says the guy might have a concussion. At the Diner, Marilyn complains to Irene that Tex isn’t at the bait shop or the caravan park. Cash comes in and he and Irene discuss Jasmine having to drive Wendy back and forth to the doctor. Irene also mentions Rose and Xander look like they’ll take the apartment. Cash is rather lukewarm but agrees it’s great for them and for Jasmine.

Xander tries to convince Rose that things will blow over and isn’t happy about her leaving both him and Jasmine behind, especially since it means Jasmine getting abandoned again. Downstairs, Irene is annoyed that Marilyn is spending all her time messaging Tex and sends her to take cups to the coffee cart. She serves Cash with a chocolate slice. Xander comes down and says they both love the flat but Rose has some stuff to sort out. Irene says it’s up to the real estate agent how long they have. Cash privately asks Xander about Rose and learns she’s leaving.

Cash has texted Rose to meet him near the beach and tells her that Xander told him she was leaving. Rose says if she’s gone it doesn’t matter if he tells Jasmine or not. Cash says he doesn’t want to have driven her out of town. Rose reminds him how often they’ve seen one lie spiral. Cash says Jasmine asked him to keep an eye on them and asks her to give him a chance to improve. Later, Xander meets Rose at the flat: He jokes about breaking and entering but she got the key off Irene. She says she spoke to Cash and has decided to stay in town and take the flat. Xander says they can argue about who gets the biggest room. Rose says she’ll go sort out the paperwork, leaving him to handle moving their stuff. Xander asks her to find Marilyn and give notice and suggests they meet at Salt later.

The lifeguards have bandaged the surfer’s cut head. John says he’ll need Tex to come down the surf club to make a statement. The surfer asks for someone to retrieve his board. Nikau goes to get it and cries out in pain; he tells John he’s all right, even though his foot is cut and he’s hobbling. Tex helps Nikau move the surfer. At the surf club, Tex tells John that the surfer got wiped out as soon as he got in the surf, also texting his boss. He asks about the takeaway upstairs and Nikau suggests he tries the pizza. John notices Nikau’s foot injury and realises he’s stepped on a sea urchin, meaning they need to get him to hospital.

John and Nikau are surprised to be met by Naomi, who explains she’s an agency nurse and it’s her first shift. John tells her about Nikau’s injury and that he’s feverish. Naomi confirms his temperature’s up and chats about how many things in the country are deadly. Later, John shows Naomi and Nikau pictures of how long sea urchin spines can be. Naomi says Nikau will need to stay in a few more hours until the antibiotics kick in. John says he’d better get going and tells Naomi to thank her parents for the donation to the surf club. Naomi asks Nikau if he’s told Bella where he is but he knows it’s not morning yet where she is.

Rose tracks Tex down, having been sent after him by Marilyn to let him know they’re vacating the vans. He asks if she’s leaving Summer Bay and she says they just found somewhere more permanent. She recalls he offered to buy her coffee and he suggests a drink instead. Tex goes to see Marilyn and tells her he has a date with Rose and will get any jobs that are left done either later on or first thing in the morning.

Tex and Rose chat on the Salt balcony about the incident with the surfer. Xander comes over and says he’ll be at the bar. Rose explains he’s her brother and she forgot she’d arranged to meet him. She goes over to Xander, saying Tex is managing the caravan park. Xander still isn’t sure how she ended up having a drink with him. Rose says he’s a what-you-see-is-what-you-get guy and it’s a breath of fresh air. Back at the Diner, Marilyn complains to Irene that she thinks she’s been taken for a ride since Tex hasn’t finished his jobs. Irene says she’ll have to talk to him.

Naomi checks on Nikau who is now feeling nauseous. She takes his temperature and says it’s higher than she’d like so she’s going to get the doctor again. Shortly after, Nikau is brought back from x-ray. Naomi says there’s a long section of spine in his foot so she has to call a surgeon in to remove it before it causes nerve damage or infection. She promises she’ll be with him every step.
