Extended Summary

Ziggy and Dean are getting things set for dinner when Mackenzie and Felicity arrive back. Ziggy asks if they had any bites and invites Felicity to stay for dinner. Mackenzie says her ex wasn’t interested but they might know more by tomorrow. At the hospital, Dr Jordan is examining Nikau while Naomi tries to reassure him. Jordan gives him an anaesthetic to numb the foot, then leaves for it to take effect. Naomi notes Jordan was called away from her dinner and tells Nikau that he’s doing better than the sea urchin.

At the Diner, John has filled Irene and Marilyn in on Nikau’s plight and gives himself the credit for spotting the symptoms of sea urchin poisoning. Tex comes in and offers to walk Marilyn home. Irene is for the idea so they can talk but Marilyn insists she has to stay and finish her work. John is amused that Marilyn is the taskmaster Tex spoke of. After Marilyn has gone into the kitchen, John tells Irene about Tex helping out and offers him a job as a lifesaver if things don’t work out with Marilyn. Tex tells Irene he’ll make it up to Marilyn tomorrow. At the hospital, Naomi waxes lyrical to Nikau about how the sea urchin’s natural defence worked. Jordan returns; Nikau freaks out a bit when she makes the incision but she removes the spine. However, she wants him to stay in overnight for observation. Naomi offers him the spine as a souvenir and he declines.

Next morning, Felicity joins Mackenzie walking into work. She has several ideas of how to generate cash: Cocktail or cooking classes on slow nights (charging $50), games nights, murder mystery nights and karaoke. Mackenzie doesn’t think any of them will be enough. Felicity suggests getting a gambling license and bringing in pokies. Mackenzie considers it for a moment but wants to keep Salt as a family restaurant. At the surf club, Dean tells Ziggy that Mackenzie will have to sell if she can’t find an investor and considers borrowing money. John chimes in that no-one will lend to Dean. Ziggy thinks it will do no good for them to get into debt as well as Mackenzie. Mackenzie and Felicity come in: Mackenzie gets a text from one of the investors but doesn’t give details.

Irene tells Marilyn that Tex saved someone’s life, which John backed up. Marilyn maintains that he needs to do his job and is unimpressed when they run into Tex, who has been on the beach, saying she gave him a list of jobs. Tex asks if it’s a new job list because he’s already done the gutters and garden. Marilyn says she’ll check. Tex heads down the beach and Marilyn scampers off. Later, she catches up with Tex as he is showering and confirms he’s done his jobs well. Tex says he’ll get the work done when she needs it done. Marilyn offers to shout him breakfast at the Diner.

Nikau hobbles back into his room with cups of coffee; Naomi is asleep in the chair next to the bed. She apologises when she wakes up but he reminds her that her shift had finished. She thanks him for the coffee, although he says it’s only from the vending machine. They recall talking about dangerous animals on the beach and Naomi starts lecturing him on the box jellyfish. At the surf club, John checks he didn’t offend Dean before then notes he has to go pick Nikau up from the hospital. Dean asks Ziggy if Mackenzie called the investor back. Ziggy confirms she did and fails to talk Dean out of going to look himself.

Dean and Ziggy join Felicity upstairs; Mackenzie is out on the balcony. Mackenzie ends the call and says he made a generous offer but she hasn’t accepted yet: He buys up properties and does them over. Ziggy understands Mackenzie doesn’t want to lose control but Dean thinks it’s no big deal and tries to pressure Mackenzie to accept the help. Mackenzie walks off. Later, Felicity tracks her down on the beach. She realises Mackenzie doesn’t want to accept the offer. Mackenzie says the investor is perfect on paper but she’s second-guessing her judgement after PK and admits her ego won’t accept someone else coming in and making changes. They discuss how they both have a hard time following orders before Felicity asks if Mackenzie can share her business.

Naomi is bandaging Nikau’s foot and notes she’s been given another night shift by the agency. She calls the sea urchin injury a highlight but admits the coffee wasn’t too great. Nikau says they’ll have to have a real one next time. John arrives to pick him up. Later, John texts Tane while Nikau waits for his antibiotics. Naomi arrives with them and Nikau says he’ll text her to arrange meeting up. John says Nikau has him to thank for getting them to have lunch. Nikau protests she’s just a friend but John agrees, saying you can never have too many friends.

At the Diner, Marilyn brings Tex his breakfast, gushing to Irene about how great the gardens are. Irene compliments Tex before checking on Marilyn, who claims she knew Tex would work out. Irene asks if that’s before or after she wanted to kill him. At Salt, Dean, Ziggy and Felicity are waiting for news. Mackenzie comes back from making a call, having turned down the offer. Dean thinks she’s crazy but Mackenzie says she wouldn’t have a business anymore, just a boss and a job, and knows what she has to do.

Dean and Ziggy watch from outside the surf club as Felicity and Mackenzie hang a For Sale sign on the balcony. Dean thinks it’s wrong but Ziggy thinks it’s the only way Mackenzie can deal with it. Mackenzie and Felicity head back inside and Mackenzie tries to get Felicity to join her for a drink. Felicity says she has something else to do first and Mackenzie says she could be drunk by the time Felicity gets back. Felicity walks out of earshot and calls Cash, saying she needs to see him about something important.
