Extended Summary
Dean and Ziggy meet up after she has been for a surf. She initially tries to claim it was bad, but after prodding, admits it was amazing. Seeing his boards for sale, she notes at least he isn’t selling his best board. Dean says it was the first one that went. John pulls up in his buggy and Ziggy asks him who bought it. All John knows is that someone left an envelope full of cash on his desk. Dean says he’d rather someone was making use of it. At the garage, Ryder takes photos of Theo with the board. He says they need ideas for the challenge and suggests drag. Neither are keen on the idea though. Theo pushes his watermelon idea but Ryder asks Justin if Leah would want to watch that. They ask his opinion and Justin says if he knew what women wanted he’d be a millionaire.
Martha is looking through a catalogue of funeral caskets and asks an uncomfortable Alf his opinion. She also tells him she doesn’t want people to wear black. Alf tries to leave, then hides the pamphlet away when Roo comes in. Roo tells them about being a match, saying it’s what they’ve wanted. Martha’s reaction is somewhat muted however. Meanwhile, Logan turns up at the Diner flat with coffee and muffin as an apology for Mackenzie. He’s on stand-by for the tribunal but has been told he probably won’t be required. Mackenzie suggests they do something together but Logan says he already has something planned.
Ziggy continues to pester John for information and he replies that it he knew he’d have told her the first two times she asked. Ziggy deduces it must have been a local to know where to leave the money but John is unimpressed. Ziggy explains that it was the board Dean won the surf competition with. John thinks she has no chance, Ziggy arrives at the garage and is delighted to see the board there. She initially assumes it’s Ryder’s but Theo explains Justin bought it for him. Ziggy tells him to name his price but Theo says it’s not for sale.
Logan and Mackenzie arrive at the surf club and Logan says it was her idea. Mackenzie tries to get him to have lunch and cocktails with her but it turns out he’s meeting Dean. Mackenzie is bemused, especially when John gives them both flotation devices. Logan says they’re being mates. At the hospital, Roo is on the phone to Kieran explaining. Irene passes her and asks Alf how he’s doing. Alf says it looks like there’s light ahead. He isn’t sure about Martha’s reaction however.
Ziggy offers to answer the phones and get Theo lunch for a week, also offering to both buy the board and give him one of hers. Justin wonders why no-one’s working. Ryder suddenly remembers that Ziggy’s a girl and says there’s a way for them all to get what they want. He suggests Ziggy and Theo go head to head for a challenge, with the winner keeping the board. The phone rings and Justin has to go and answer it himself. Ziggy agrees: She gets the board back if she wins, if Theo wins then he gets to keep the board and gets Ziggy’s favourite board. Ziggy says she’ll pick the challenge.
On the beach, Logan and Dean come back from the sea. Dean confirms there was no pain and Logan calls it progress, saying he needs to build his strength back up. Dean declines to go back out, instead accepting Logan’s offer of a beer. Soon after, the two of them are in Salt and Mackenzie is surprised when Dean actually pays for his beer. Mackenzie gives Logan a lengthy thank you kiss before he goes to answer a call from the hospital. Dean explains about Logan helping him to surf again and tells her not to say anything to Ziggy. He also tells her she should move in with Logan. Logan comes back and says he’s been cleared. Mackenzie invites him to move in and Dean bails from another celebratory kiss.
Ziggy announces her challenge idea: Seeing who can put a tyre on fastest. Theo is confident of victory and Ryder and Justin sit back to enjoy the show. Ziggy suggests they spice it up by wearing blindfolds. Ryder introduces the challenge and the pair start. Theo fumbles a bit to find the bolts and eventually takes off the blindfold and announces he’s done…to find Ziggy standing with Ryder and Justin, already finished. Theo insists she must have cheated and Ziggy offers to do it again without the blindfold. Theo again has difficulty doing the bolts fast and Ziggy again announces she’s done. She tells him she used to work on a pit crew and he notes that’s cool.
Roo suggests that when she and Martha are recovered they go on a road trip. Alf says he’d rather plan that than the alternative. Roo wonders about a cottage with a garden that Martha wanted to go to but Martha says she doesn’t remember what it was. Roo and Irene go to get coffee. Alf wonders why Martha isn’t treating it as good news. Martha says she isn’t sure she can ask Roo to risk complications giving up a kidney and is thinking of saying no. Once Alf and Roo get home, he mentions the risks. Roo says the success rate is nearly 90% and reveals she’s asked the co-ordinator to fast track it. Alf suggests she’s not given it any thought and Roo walks out.
John and Dean discuss the fact he’s sold most of the boards. Ziggy turns up and Dean asks her not to question it. Ziggy says she’s only concerned about one board, explaining she’s got it back and it’s in her car. Dean is annoyed however, telling her to back off and not interfere.
