Extended Summary

Theo protests to John and Justin that he didn’t steal the Polaris, just borrowed it. Justin says he could have hurt someone and John says they might have needed it for a rescue. He asks Theo where it is. Soon after, John and Theo have gone out to the park to retrieve it with a can of petrol. John complains that running out of petrol can damage the fuel pump. Ryder is walking nearby, watching Theo’s video, but his mood improves when he sees John berating Theo. He starts videoing them, asking Theo why he isn’t filming this bit and if he has any more messages for his girlfriend.

At the Diner flat, Ryder shows the video to Bella and Nikau. Bella asks what Chloe will think but Ryder says it’s not his problem since they aren’t working together anymore. Nikau is annoyed that Theo’s only punishment is a lecture, saying he could get fired. Bella tries to reassure him, suggesting he talk to John. Back at the Stewart house, Alf is trying to get some clothes together to bring Martha home. Roo asks how it’s going to work and how they’re going to look after her. Ryder listens from the hallway as Roo points out that the home dialysis machine will be expensive. Alf yells that he wants her back home and Roo agrees to make it happen.

John brings Theo to the surf club, giving him a list of jobs to do at the juice bar. After he’s gone, Theo starts filming, saying he gets free gelato out of it. Nikau comes along and demands to know what Theo’s doing there, thinking he’s messing around. He berates him for ruining his first day and Theo retorts that Nikau looked dumb. Nikau shoves him and Theo shoves him back. John interrupts their scuffle and sends Theo to the office, before berating Nikau for starting a fight in his uniform. Nikau goes back to the Diner flat and tells Bella that he hates Theo, explaining that his attempt to talk to John was a failure, he got ino a fight with Theo and he thinks he’s definitely going to lose his job now.

John brings Theo home, telling Justin that he got into a fight, although admittedly Nikau started it. Theo apologises for causing trouble and thanks John for stepping in. John wonders if a donation might be a better recompense. Theo protests that he shouldn’t be punished when he’s apologised. He says no-one would have known about it if the Polaris hadn’t run out of petrol. John reminds him that he posted it on the internet. Theo thinks John wouldn’t have seen it. At the Diner flat, Nikau finishes a phone call with Ari, who he notes seemed worked up. Bella tries to reassure him, saying he could always patrol another beach. Nikay says it’s important it happens here, since John believed in him when no-one else did. Bella convinces him to go and apologise again tomorrow.

Ryder serves Roo at Salt and asks her about Martha. Roo initially tries to claim she’ll be okay but eventually admits that she needs a new kidney and they’re testing. Ryder says he’ll pay her back. Roo admits they’re considering asking Martha to sell Merimbula. Nearby, Mackenzie finishes a phone call, probably with Logan, saying she’s glad they’re getting along. Ryder asks about extra shifts. Mackenzie doesn’t think he can afford it with TAFE and his side hustle. Ryder explains he’s not doing that anymore but Mackenzie doesn’t have anything until the next roster. At the hospital, Alf is sitting with Martha, saying he got bored at home. Martha starts coughing and Alf wants to get someone but she tells him to leave it. She dreams of going to Merimbula when all this is over.

Next morning, Bella and Nikau are walking on the beach and run into Ryder, who asks how things went with John. Bella says Nikau had a fight with Theo, which Ryder is somewhat impressed by. He gets alerts to video comments, including one saying it was good to see the two of them together again. Mackenzie comes along and wonders why he’s chirpy. At the surf club, Bella gives Nikau another pep-talk before sending him to talk to John. Nikau apologises. John says that he could forgive Nikau for letting the Polaris be stolen and even the fight, but he takes training lifeguards seriously and Nikau doesn’t respect it. He takes the uniform off him. Nikau thanks him for the opportunity and goes to leave. John hands him the uniform back, saying he needs help putting out the flags.

Ryder shows Mackenzie the cocktail challenge video at the Diner, explaining they get money from the adverts with each view. Mackenzie comments on him filming in Salt without permission, then suggests working with Theo might be the lesser evil to help his family. Justin and Theo come in. Ryder asks to talk to Theo and Justin convinces him to. Ryder says that he hates Theo and Theo reciprocates. Ryder points out that he got more views for the video of them arguing than Theo did for the joyride. He offers to go back to the challenges on the condition there’s nothing illegal. Theo agrees.

Roo arrives at the hospital and finds Alf in Martha’s room with the bed gone. Alf says Martha had a bad night and the doctors took her for tests, although he doesn’t really understand what. Roo goes to find out more. Soon after, Roo explains the doctors are worried how fast Martha’s deteriorating and that she might not be able to hold on for a transplant. Martha is brought back in. Roo goes to get answers while Alf tries to reassure Martha, looking worried.
