Extended Summary

Leah is taken aback when she runs into Justin on exiting the Morgan house, saying he gave her a fright. Justin says he came to get some clothes. Leah offers to let him in but Justin says he still has a key. He is unconvinced she cares when she asks how he’s been. At the surf club, Dean asks Tane about Chloe and then about Ziggy and the garage. Tane admits he’s been having troubles accompanying her into work. Both agree she needs to steer clear of Justin.

Irene and John run into each other near the Diner. Irene has been visiting Jasmine, who is in an induced coma. They see a group of sightseers down by the sea and Irene explains people want to see where Susie washed up and someone even wanted to do a podcast. A woman approaches them and asks if this is where the murdered woman’s body was found. Irene calls her a ghoul and John says it’s none of her business but it was at the other end of the beach. They walk on and pass Cash. John asks if he has any leads and Cash says the case has been handed over to homicide. Inside, Kieran has explained to Roo that he needs a sponsor as a condition of the good behaviour bond and told the police he has one. Roo offers to do it but Kieran says it needs to be a recovering alcoholic. Irene and John come in, chatting about the case. Irene notices Kieran and Roo awkwardly says he’s back.

Ziggy comes into the surf club, on the phone to a garage customer who is having to wait. She tells Dean that she hasn’t been able to get into work because Tane won’t let her go on her own but is working all the time. Dean tells her that’s the one thing he and Tane agree on. Ziggy wants to go into the garage, since she can’t keep it running from home, but Dean insists Justin’s a loose cannon. Meanwhile, Leah and Stephen are going for a walk in a park area. Leah is feeling guilty about the way she reacted to Justin. Stephen says addicts are unpredictable. Leah wonders how he knew and he says he read between the lines. He tells her her reaction is normal. Leah notes she and Stephen were only meant to be meeting for a coffee and a catch-up.

Ziggy is frustrated at Tane setting up for another session instead of taking her to the garage. Justin storms in and bumps into Tane, heading upstairs without apologising. Ziggy wants to talk to him. Dean says he’ll have a go. He goes up to Salt where Justin has started drinking. Dean asks what’s going on and why he’s treating Ziggy the way he is. Justin says that Dean and Ziggy aren’t together anymore. Dean says he’s trying to help Justin. Taking him aside, Justin asks Dean to fix him up with some decent painkillers.

Kieran comments to Roo that he thought Irene would have a bigger problem with him being there. Roo has an idea for his sponsor. Sending him outside, she approaches Irene and John, discussing Kieran being back and Alf and Martha not knowing. Roo takes Irene into the kitchen and asks her about being Kieran’s sponsor. Irene isn’t keen, since it would be going behind Martha’s back. Roo thinks Martha would want him to have support and asks her to think about it. Roo joins Kieran outside and says she’s got a feeling he’ll have a sponsor before his check-in that afternoon. Irene and John suddenly appear; Irene has had a phone call from Cash asking her to go to the police station for an interview. John is going for moral support and to stop Irene ripping anyone’s head off, since she’s grumbling about the police harassing innocent people.

Justin insists to Dean that he’s not a junkie, it’s prescription medication. Dean retorts that if it was legit he could go to a doctor. He tells him scoring drugs off the street isn’t the answer. Justin insists he’s not getting high and says everyone has let him down. Dean heads downstairs and fills in Ziggy and Tane, asking Ziggy how long she’s known. Ziggy says it’s not Justin’s fault and wants to go and talk to him. Tane says he’ll go with her, which Dean agrees with.

Irene turns up at the police station, continuing to complain to John that it’s a waste of time. They are both pulled up short when they see the woman from the beach in the office. Cash introduces her as Amy Peters, the detective in charge of the investigation. John explains who he is and Amy notes she wanted to talk to him, asking him to make an appointment with Cash for tomorrow. She leads Irene into the office. Later, John quizzes Cash about Amy, who Cash says transferred from the Northern Territory recently. In the interview room, Amy notes it must have been a frightening experience for Irene and it’s understandable she’d hold a grudge. Irene suspects Amy is trying to lure her into a false sense of security so she’ll incriminate herself. Becoming harder, Amy notes Irene has been accused of murder once before and charged with attempted murder. She asks about Irene’s movements after she last saw Susie.

Dean joins Ziggy and Tane, who are sat at a table watching Justin drink. Ziggy decides to approach him but Justin says she dobbed him in to Leah and is a snake, knocking over a chair in anger. Dean says he’ll take him home. Later, Ziggy reflects on Justin treating her like that after she’s kept the garage afloat. Tane encourages her to cut loose. Ziggy points out she tried to find another job and Justin’s always been a friend but Tane thinks she needs to get out.

Dean takes a drunken Justin to the Morgan house. Leah comes out and says Justin can’t be there, explaining he doesn’t live there anymore. Stephen also emerges, carrying a tool box, and Justin accuses him of cutting his grass. Dean leads Justin away. They go for a walk in the park. Dean says he’ll sober Justin up and then take him home, wherever that is. Justin says that if Dean won’t get him the painkillers then he wants nothing from him. Dean encourages him to clean his act up but ends up giving up on him, saying don’t blame him when he’s in the gutter.

Amy says her goodbyes to Irene, lightly telling her not to leave town. Roo and Kieran have just joined John. Irene tells them she can’t be Kieran’s sponsor, surprising Kieran who didn’t know Roo had asked her. Kieran approaches Cash, introducing himself and explaining the situation. Cash says he’ll make some calls before sorting out the paperwork, suggesting he might be able to sort something. Meanwhile, Ziggy and Tane are at the farm house. Tane is heading back to work and Ziggy is still deciding about the job, although she says she’s not making excuses for Justin anymore. They open the door to find Amy and Cash there. Amy says she wants to talk to Ziggy about Justin.
