Extended Summary

Ziggy is being interviewed by Amy and Cash at the station. She insists Justin wouldn’t have murdered anyone. Amy calls him a junkie. Ziggy says he just has a problem with painkillers but Amy notes he’s an addict. Ziggy says he’s normally a great guy and admits she hasn’t been into work much. Amy asks if she feels safe around Justin. Ziggy insists she does, but there’s an awkward silence afterwards. Outside the Morgan house, Leah apologises to Stephen for him being caught in the middle again. She says Justin wouldn’t hurt her but Stephen suggests he’s done a lot of things Leah didn’t think he would. Leah thanks him for changing the locks. Stephen suggests they go out for dinner.

Irene approaches Justin at the Diner, suggesting he could use a feed. Justin bluntly says he’s not hungry. Marilyn comments he’s in a bad way as Justin leaves, ignoring Roo. Irene apologises for not being Kieran’s sponsor and Roo admits Alf and Roo don’t know he’s back. Roo explains Cash arranged for Kieran to attend an AA meeting in the hope he’ll find a sponsor there. Meanwhile, Leah and Stephen are walking by the surf club while Justin skulks nearby. John sees Justin and tells him about Amy, noting she’ll probably want to talk to him too. Justin walks away mid-conversation.

Amy shows Ziggy out. Cash advises Ziggy to watch herself around Justin. Amy and Cash discuss the end of their first day. Amy says it’s too soon to draw any conclusions and tells Cash to take her to the best place to eat in town. She looks at a file of persons of interest: The first names are Leah, Stephen, John and Justin. At Salt, Leah and Stephen are deciding to forget the events of the day but moments later Cash and Amy walk in. Amy gets Cash to introduce them and notes they were among Susie’s victims. She invites herself to sit with them for an off-the-record chat.

Ziggy arrives home and hears the sound of someone moving around. She calls out and an awkward-looking Justin emerges. He says he was looking for the pills that Ziggy collected at the garage but Ziggy insists that she disposed of them. She says Tane will be home soon but Justin knows he’s at the gym. Ziggy tells him about the police wondering if she felt safe around him and threatens to call them. Justin leaves. Ziggy calls Tane wondering when he’ll be home.

Stephen is telling Amy that Susie ruined his life. Amy says she and Cash were wondering how John received the texts when Susie was dead. Stephen says they saw the texts but didn’t see him receive them. Cash notes Amy’s takeaway is ready. As they walk away, he tells her to warn him next time she’s going to have an off the record chat and make up conversations. Later, Leah notes it felt like an interview with wine and admits she’s not looking forward to going home to an empty house. Stephen leans it to kiss her and Leah calmly takes a step back. Stephen apologises, saying it was inappropriate, and Leah says she’s committed to Justin. She accepts an offer from Stephen to walk her home.

Next morning, John arrives at the police station with an offering of coffee and muffins. Cash says they can’t accept freebies, especially during a police interview, but Amy is happy to take one. She takes John into the interview, leaving Cash outside, and starts recording, asking John what happened after Susie chloroformed Irene. John says he went to see Jett in the city and came back the next day. Amy says no-one remembers seeing him and John says he didn’t want company. Amy asks if he was angry and John says he was felt more sad and foolish. Amy brings up the conversation she had with Leah and Stephen and accuses John of sending the texts to himself from a burner phone. John is shocked at the idea of her thinking he murdered Susie. He heads to the Diner, meeting up with Irene, Roo and Marilyn outside, and says he’s now the main suspect. Irene says they all are and thinks Amy’s just rattling trees. John thinks Stephen dropped him in it but the others seem to trust him.

Cash quizzes Amy and suspects she already thinks she knows who did it. Amy simply tells him to try one of John’s muffins. Meanwhile, John accosts Stephen as he and Leah come into the Diner, accusing him of dropping him in it. Stephen says he was the one who told John to go to the police. Marilyn tries to calm John. Irene says the police want them to turn on each other and Leah agrees they have to have each other’s backs.

Ziggy is heading towards the beach but sees Justin making a phone call. She turns away and ends up nearly hitting Cash with her surf board. Cash asks if she’s not going in and Ziggy says she’s not in the mood anymore. Cash also sees Justin. Soon after, Justin drives to a remote spot and meets with a shady looking character, who offers him a bag in exchange for money. Justin asks if it’s legit, then takes it anyway. The other man drives off and Justin takes some pills from the bag, swallowing some.

At the Diner, Irene and Leah discuss Amy’s behaviour last night and how it’s a surprise she didn’t walk in on John and Stephen’s argument. Marilyn says she’s going to look after Grace. Leah admits she’s worried about Justin. Meanwhile, Justin is sitting in his car, tapping to music. He looks ill for a moment, then rallies and gets a blissed out smile on his face, driving off.
