Extended Summary

At the Diner, Irene asks Nikau about Bella but Nikau hasn’t heard from her. Angelo comes in and Jasmine accuses him of putting Colby in jail just because he had an affair with his wife. Angelo denies it and reveals that Colby got bail but it was set higher than he could afford. At the farm house, Ziggy tells Mackenzie that she couldn’t hold the truth in anymore, explaining Dean tried to talk Colby out of the murder. Mackenzie is reeling, realising this is why Ziggy broke up with Dean and also that Bella knows, which she thinks explains a lot. They both clam up when Nikau arrives, leaving him worried he’s interrupting something. Mackenzie assures him it’s fine for him to stay.

Next morning, Angelo offers to help Taylor with her bags outside the surf club but she refuses. He wonders if she’s going to ask how her boyfriend did in court and says what’s happening is a consequence of her choices. Back at the farm house, Nikau tries to find out why Mackenzie’s on edge. Mackenzie says she’ll call him if Ari gets in touch and sends him off to work. Ziggy tries to leave too but Mackenzie stops her, saying she can’t pretend last night ever happened. Ziggy wishes she could unsay it and notes Colby has ruined Dean and Bella’s lives and it’s only going to get worse.

Colby, Dean, Willow, Bella and Jasmine all show up outside the Diner. Colby thanks Jasmine for her help as he and Dean head up to the flat. Willow also thanks Jasmine for bailing Colby out. She and Jasmine go their separate ways and Bella goes over to Nikau, who’s watching, explaining it took until that morning to get the money together for Colby’s bail. She says she’d better get back to the others. Colby, Dean, Willow and Bella congregate in the flat. Colby is confused as to why Angelo isn’t saying who his star witness is. Willow suggests the police might not want to tip their hand. Bella suggests it’s a bluff but Colby says the police are confident, since they’re rushing ahead with the trial. He is determined to find out who the witness is.

Mackenzie sees Taylor outside the surf club and wonders if she’s waiting around for Colby. Taylor is frustrated that everyone seems to know and says her and Colby are over and if she could leave town she would. Mackenzie heads up to Salt where Jasmine is waiting on an order. Angelo, sat at a nearby table, says she did well in court but will look foolish when Colby gets sent down for decades. Mackenzie is disconcerted that Jasmine used the gym as surety for Colby’s bail. Jasmine says Colby was always there for her and Robbo.

Colby considers Nikau could be the informer but Bella says he wouldn’t tell and his uncles don’t know, with Dean adding they wouldn’t talk to the police. Dean suggests Chelsea but Colby says she’d lose her job if she admitted she knew. Bella suggests Taylor, saying maybe she was using him. Mackenzie turns up; Colby tries to get rid of her but Mackenzie insists on speaking to Dean alone. Willow ushers Colby and Bella out. Mackenzie hits Dean and says Ziggy told her. Down in the Diner, Irene welcomes Bella and Willow back, while Ziggy expresses surprise that Colby got bail. Bella takes a table with Nikau, saying Colby only got bail because his lawyer argued a police officer would be in danger in jail and he could get years and years if found guilty.

Dean notes he wishes Ziggy and Mackenzie didn’t know. Mackenzie asks if this is why he didn’t want her near Colby. Dean says Colby’s a good guy but Mackenzie says good guys don’t shoot people and drag their mates into it. She isn’t convinced Colby will keep Dean out of it and realises this is why Bella ran away. Dean says she needs to stay away from him and Colby. He follows her outside and sees Colby storming towards Ziggy on the beach. Colby accuses Ziggy of going to the police, saying she told Mackenzie and might have seen it as a way of getting Dean out of trouble. Dean runs up and pushes Colby away from her, telling her to go. He tells Colby if he goes near Ziggy again he’ll bury him.

Back at the flat, Dean warns Colby to stay away from Ziggy, insisting she wouldn’t tell. Colby says Dean and Willow are the only people he trusts. Willow asks what about Bella. Colby says she told Nikau and Dean retorts that he told Ziggy. Colby says if he doesn’t know who made the statement he’s done. Dean points out he’ll get the witness list eventually. Meanwhile, Ziggy and Mackenzie arrive at Salt, talking about how out of control Colby is and how he was going on about a witness. They stop talking as they pass Angelo’s table, concluding that they’ll both stay away from Colby. Angelo rings someone up and says he needs a supression order on one of the witnesses, who’d be in danger if Colby knew about them.

Ziggy arrives home to find Dean waiting. He apologises for Colby, saying he’s clutching at straws and knows it wasn’t her. Ziggy starts to say she misses him but Dean says she was right to stay away from him. At the Diner, Irene tells Jasmine she did a nice thing posting bail. Jasmine admits Angelo’s comments got to her. Nearby, Nikau is telling Bella he’s worried he hasn’t heard from Ari and Tane. Willow appears and asks Bella to come see Colby, suggesting Nikau stay away. Nikau doesn’t want to go to Mack’s without her so says he’ll check at home. He goes to the house and finds the place deserted and the window boarded up.

Jasmine tells Irene that it seems like all her friends’ lives are falling apart. Irene doesn’t think there’s much she can do and instead suggests she concentrate on Grace’s birthday. Meanwhile, Nikau turns up at Salt wanting to know where Ari and Tane are. Mackenzie takes him into the store room but is reluctant to tell him. Nikau says if she doesn’t he’ll call the police.
