Extended Summary

Colby is on the beach when Ryder approaches him and asks where Bella is. Colby notes she went to TAFE and Ryder asks how she’s feeling about Ross and if they’ve caught the psycho who did it. Colby suggests they might never find out and should move on, but looks worried as he walks away. Meanwhile, John is outside his house, on the phone to Amber who has called in sick and doesn’t react well to his asking for a medical certificate. Bella comes from the direction of the Paratas’ and asks if he’s seen Nik. John says he went out with Tane early on. He explains he’s meant to be meeting Alf at the surf club but doesn’t have anyone to drive him. Bella offers her services but he wants someone with a license so she sends a text.

At the Diner, Justin queries Tori letting Jasmine see Grace after one counselling session. Tori says she doesn’t want Jasmine to be on her own today. At the counter, Irene asks Jasmine to have dinner with her tonight and claims there’s no special occasion. After Tori and Jasmine have gone, Leah is amused to learn Justin also has back ache. Outside the Palmer house, John complains to Bella that her friend is taking their time, even though it’s only been five minutes. Ryder turns up and John gets in the car while Ryder and Bella have a quick catch-up about Evan’s funeral and Ross’ body being found. Bella disappears, leaving Ryder alone with John.

Alf and Roo are somewhat surprised when John turns up at the surf club with Ryder, wondering when he became his chauffeur. Ryder says that he broke a mirror while walking under a ladder as a black cat crossed his path. John quickly starts claiming the surf club has gone to ruin without him. At the Diner, Angelo is reunited with Irene and Leah, who comment on him being back in the force while he wonders where Colby is. Irene points out Bella when she comes in. Angelo offers her his condolences and gives her his card, saying to get Colby to call him. He promises he’s going to catch the person who did this.

Bella approaches Colby outside the surf club and tells him he was wrong about the police not caring who killed Ross, explaining about Angelo being in town. Colby says that they were expecting this, but again his confidence fades once he turns away from her. Later, Colby is in Salt when Angelo approaches him. Colby instantly guesses he’s a detective and Angelo realises he’s the only person in there wearing a suit. He reminisces about when he owned the restaurant and it was named after him before asking about Ross. Colby says he won’t shed any tears over him. Angelo notes Chelsea said the same thing. Colby is thrown that Angelo talked to her and Angelo notes Chelsea said that day ended her marriage.

Tori and Jasmine are walking on the beach. Jasmine says she was walking down the aisle a year ago and Tori recalls she was scared of meeting Robbo’s parents. Jasmine says the counselling helped her realise that she has a lot of unresolved issues to deal with. At the surf club, John complains to Alf about the lack of changes to the roster and also the fact there’s no fundraising scheduled. Alf says they were going to discuss it at the next board meeting and John says that isn’t scheduled either. Roo turns up with a drink for John which Alf takes instead and comments on him being back to his old self. John says he’ll take that at face value, noting that he misses Marilyn but it’s better now she’s moved out. Roo leaves him to continue haranguing Alf.

Irene approaches Bella at the Diner and starts chatting to her about Ross, saying she can always talk to her and also assuring her that Angelo will catch his killer. Ryder listens in for a moment then deliberately interrupts to complain to Bella about leaving him with John. Irene leaves them but Bella tunes out Ryder’s conversation. Back at Salt, Colby talks to Angelo about the years he spent looking for Bella and Ross. Angelo mentions the kidnapping and says he needs to talk to Colby and Dean at the station tomorrow. Colby claims his memory won’t be as clear as it was at the time and Angelo notes he’d remember the details if his wife and sister were kidnapped, adding that Dean and Colby were the last ones to see Ross alive apart from the killer.

Ryder suggests he and Bella go to the beach but Bella gets a text from Colby and says she has to go. Jasmine comes in as Leah leaves to meet Justin. Jasmine tells Irene it’s her anniversary and Irene admits that’s why she organised the dinner. They discuss the counselling. Jasmine is still determined to see Grace and Irene says things will be back to normal if she’s open and honest. Up in the flat, Colby is on the phone to Dean, who is still away with Ziggy, telling him he needs to come back. Bella comes in and Colby tells her Angelo wants to see him and Dean but insists that if they stick to their story everything will be fine.

Roo comes to collect Alf from the surf club and he is shocked to realise he and John have been talking until it’s dark. John says he’ll be back at work full-time in a week. He struggles to get up and Alf and Roo suggest it might be two weeks, deciding to take him home rather than have him call a taxi or Ryder. Meanwhile, Leah, Justin, Tori and Grace are up in Salt. Leah wonders if Justin should be drinking after taking a painkiller and Justin says he’s got a water as well to make sure he doesn’t dehydrate. He suggests he and Leah take a road trip to see Ava, since Ziggy’s back tomorrow and can look after the garage. Jasmine arrives and gives Tori the photo album she made of Grace, saying she wants to be open and honest. She adds that she hopes it doesn’t undo the progress they’ve made. No-one says anything and Jasmine leaves. Tori looks disappointed.

Colby is asleep, dreaming about Ross threatening Chelsea and Bella and shooting Willow and standing over him with a gun. Bella arrives and wakes him, saying he was having a nightmare. Colby claims he can’t remember and Bella says she couldn’t sleep. She is worried Colby will be taken away. Next morning, Colby goes to the police station and tells Angelo that Dean’s on his way. He gets a text from Bella saying to call her when he’s done and joins Angelo in the interview room.
