Extended Summary

Dean is setting up for a surf lesson on the beach. Ziggy appears and thanks him for opening up the board shop earlier, since Ben is adjusting to his meds. Everything at the garage is sorted, so she’ll go to Yabbie Creek after a surf. Ryder joins them and claims he’s been practising. Other students arrive and one of the girls, Jade, greets Dean. He and Ryder explain she’s staying at the caravan park and saw one of Ziggy’s flyers. After Dean has gone over to them, Ryder tells Ziggy he’s thinking of asking her out but worries he’s out of her league. Ziggy is too focused on Dean and Jade to respond. At the hospital, Willow tells Alex she can’t just drop that on her and leave but Alex says this isn’t the time and place. Mason comes over and says a patient needs a scan. Alex sends him on ahead, then tells Willow that she’ll take a lunch break afterwards.

Irene finds Robbo outside the Diner and asks how things went with Jasmine. Robbo says he doesn’t know. Seeing how tense he is, Irene convinces him to give Grace to her and go for a walk. She heads upstairs with the carry cot. Near the beach, Alex admits to Willow that she hasn’t had a lot of dating experience: Her most recent relationship lasted ten years. She says they wanted different things: She wanted to settle down and focus on her career, while her girlfriend wanted to go and travel. She says it was a year ago and she’s been taking temporary postings since, and didn’t expect to meet anyone. However, she doesn’t do casual. Willow says she’s just figuring things out and Alex says she can’t risk it if it’s just a phase.

Dean is continuing to coach his students as Ziggy comes back from her surf. He goes over to chat to her and, when Jade calls over to him, she decides to stay. Ryder offers to help Jade with her positioning but she says she’s all right. Later, Ziggy asks Dean why he didn’t say he was giving lessons to a neighbour and he points out that he never tells her who his clients are. Ryder is chatting to Jade (who wonders if Ziggy is Dean’s girlfriend), asking if she’s backpacking. She says she went on a gap year before uni and never went back. She recalls seeing him at the caravan park and he says his family owns it. He mentions he also works in the bar and offers to get her a drink later. Dean announces they’re going in the water. Jade quips about getting a refund and he retorts that she hasn’t paid.

Up in the flat, Irene and Jasmine chat about Robbo’s fears. Jasmine thinks it’s ridiculous that she’s meant to live with Grace and not do anything for her. Irene asks if she has changed her mind about having children. Jasmine says the point is that she and Robbo should discuss it, not him just decide what she wants. Irene goes to the gym, where Robbo is hitting a bag. She tells him Grace is with Jasmine and he should be too, adding that Jasmine wants to help and he should let her. Robbo says they’ve been in police protection ever since they were married and he can’t ask her to look after Grace straight after. Irene encourages him to talk to her.

Jasmine is looking after Grace in the flat, chatting to her about Tori. Robbo comes in but leaves Grace with Jasmine. He apologises, saying he didn’t want to force her to look after Grace. Jasmine points out she’s been part of it from the beginning. Robbo points out things are different to how they planned but Jasmine makes it clear she’s accepted Grace. At the hospital, Alex is in her office. Mason comes in to give patient updates and also to ask if she’s okay. Alex is businesslike but Mason mentions Willow’s visit and says Alex can talk to him because he’s her friend as well.

Irene serves Willow at the Diner. Jasmine comes in and checks in with her about Alex. After Willow has gone, Irene asks what Jasmine knows. Jasmine says just that they’re seeing what happens. Irene asks about Robbo. Jasmine says they’ve agreed to work together and she’s planning a surprise. Down on the beach, Dean chats to Jade about the lesson while also making a joke about Ryder. Ziggy comes over and gives Jade a pointed “Bye”, before complaining to Dean that she was flirting with him and saying he can’t teach her anymore. Dean protests but Ziggy says this ends with her finding them in bed. Dean says he wouldn’t but Ziggy replies she didn’t think Brody would and walks off. Willow passes her and asks Dean what’s going on. Dean says he’s being punished for someone else’s mistakes.

Dean showers himself near the surf club while telling Willow he’s just doing his job. Willow knows that, but can also understand Ziggy’s insecurities. Dean admits she said she was having a hard time trusting anyone when they first got together. Willow calls it a leap of faith; this gives her an idea and she heads back to the hospital. Without her saying anything, Mason tells her that Alex is in the office. Willow goes in there and says she can’t promise they’ll last or she won’t hurt her, but it’s not an experiment and she really cares about her. She asks her to take a leap of faith. Alex agrees and kisses her.

Jasmine finds Robbo settling Grace and notes Grace is more relaxed because he is. She gets the milk formula and nappies together, saying they’re going on a trip and telling Robbo to bring Grace. Downstairs, she has a pushchair waiting which she has bought. Robbo straps Grace in and tells Jasmine to push, since she claims to be the better driver. They head down the beach together.

Jade approaches Dean in Salt with a beer, which she says she’s bought as a thank you. Dean has plans though, so hands the drink to Ryder, who has assumed Jade took him up on his offer. Dean takes pizza to Ziggy at the farm house and she accepts she can trust him, but doesn’t trust Jade. Back at Salt, Jade shows Ryder some photos of her travels, including one of her surfing, and asks him about Dean and Ziggy. Dean tells Ziggy that Jade will move on soon. Jade notes she’s out of money and Ryder offers to get her a job at Salt. She jumps at the idea.
