Extended Summary

Ziggy finds Dean at the surf club. He tells her he’s spoken to his probation officer and his name’s on various lists but no-one’s queuing up to offer him a job. He asks after Ben. Mackenzie comes downstairs and offers them a drink. Even though he had just challenged Ziggy to a game of pool, Dean says they were just going. They head back to the caravan park with Ziggy reflecting they always need to avoid Salt; first because of Brody and Simone, now because of Mackenzie. She reminds Dean he wanted to get to know her before he caught her with Colby but Dean says he doesn’t want to have to pick up the pieces. He is somewhat ungrateful when Ziggy offers to help find a job, then says he’ll show her he can be sweet, kissing her and leading her into the van.

Maggie is preparing food. Ben reappears, having got cleaned up. Maggie expresses her surprise at his heavy drinking. Ben apologises for how he spoke to her but still isn’t keen on the idea of selling the pier, since it’s all they have going for them financially. Back at the Diner flat, Robbo tells Jasmine that there’ll be increased security and both Colby and Lance are arranging regular patrols. Jasmine notes she felt safe yesterday and they realise they wanted it to be true. She wonders why it’s happening now and asks why his family were killed. Robbo says it was to make him back off but this seems to be something different.

Dean and Ziggy come back out of the caravan. Ziggy says they need to get down to job hunting and reads off a list of vacancies from her phone, including forklift operator, apprentice chef and male stripper. Dean notes it’s not looking good. Ziggy suggests there’s a place near the beach where he could work but Dean won’t work for Mackenzie. They try one last thing: Asking Alf, who they find near the surf club. However, he has nothing. Mackenzie approaches but Dean refuses to talk to her. Ziggy looks frustrated as they walk off in opposite directions.

Ben tells Maggie that, apart from her and the girls, the pier is the one thing he’s got right: The board shop failed and so did his building business. He thinks they need to think about what could happen if he goes to jail. Meanwhile, Ziggy goes to see Mackenzie at Salt. She tells her not to give up on Dean and explains that his probation depends on him being employed, meaning he could go to jail if he doesn’t get a job soon. Ziggy thinks Dean does want a relationship with Mackenzie but his pride’s getting in the way.

Robbo looks through some old files but quickly gets angry at the lack of progress. He shouts that they need to either put a bullet in his chest or tell him what they want. Jasmine shouts at him to stop, then walks out. Robbo finds her in the bedroom and apologises. Jasmine says it was scary hearing him talk like that but she understands and wants to help.

Ben says they could sell the pier and get a top lawyer and he could still get convicted. Maggie says he could get cleared and they could all live happily ever after. Ben thinks that will only happen if the people who framed him are caught. Maggie is shocked that he seems to have given up but Ben says that it’s surreal what’s happening. Maggie says he wouldn’t let her give up. Meanwhile, Ziggy joins Dean at the caravan park and asks how the job hunting’s going. Dean gets a text from Mackenzie inviting him to have dinner with her. Ziggy says she’s got to check in with Ben and Maggie so he should go. However, Mackenzie receives a text from him saying he’s made plans.

Robbo shows a man out of the flat and tells Jasmine the extra security is in place. He thinks he made a mistake letting her come back with him and wonders if Lance could take her somewhere safe. Jasmine insists it was her choice and they’re stronger together. At the farm house, Ziggy arrives home and Ben and Maggie tell her the proposed idea for the pier. Ziggy is immediately on board, saying money’s not their sole focus and they’d rather have Ben even if it meant living in a caravan. Ben agrees to meet the real estate agent.

Next morning, Robbo looks outside: There is a guard at the bottom of the steps and another (the man he was with earlier) on the wharf. He rejoins Jasmine and then phones Lance. He learns there were no prints on the photos but the files have been cleared to be sent to him. Meanwhile, Ziggy goes to see Mackenzie at Salt to ask about the dinner with Dean. Mackenzie tells her he didn’t show up. Ziggy encourages her not to give up.

Mackenzie goes to see Dean at his caravan with coffees (although he refuses to accept his). She tells him there’s a delivery driver’s job going at Salt and with bar shifts it would be full time. She thinks he needs to let go of her ego. Dean tells her where she can stick it. Ziggy goes home and chats to Maggie about Dean refusing to accept help, although she is hopeful she can sort it and get him talking to Mackenzie. Ben appears smartened up and he and Maggie head off to the meeting.

Mackenzie follows Dean along near the beach, saying she’s not giving up. She says she lost her chance with a great guy because of him. Dean is scornful that she and Colby are over already and says he doesn’t trust her and doesn’t want anything to do with her.
