Extended Summary
Roo approaches Alf outside the bait shop where he is sanding down a boat and insists he stop for a drink. Alf says he has to go and check on the surf club. As they are discussing John being away, Marilyn approaches and says he’s on the way back, having got Jett settled in. She dodges the issue of them moving away however, heading to the Diner. Roo offers to help Alf and gets lumbered with restocking the bait fridge. Meanwhile, Irene is sitting at the table with the kitchen floor covered in broken crockery. Willow arrives and Irene tells her that Bella took care of the dishes, then took off. Willow is sympathetic and says she’ll take care of it.
Bella comes into the surf club and asks Ryder if he can get away. Ryder is working and is surprised Irene let her out. Bella says it’s against the law to keep people prisoner. She thinks no-one wants her around. Ryder says he and Raffy do and offers to take his break and play pool with her. Robbo comes through and briefly asks Bella about living with Irene. Meanwhile, Willow is sweeping the broken crockery into the bin. Irene says it wasn’t a teenage strop, it was cold and deliberate. Willow recalls Ross was like that when he shot her. She suggests she or Dean could take responsibility for Bella but Irene doesn’t want to give up on her, although she says she needs a new approach. Jasmine arrives and makes a joke about plate throwing. Irene says she should have let her do Bella’s dishes.
John arrives at the Diner and greets Marilyn. He tells her that Jett’s doing well and also that he’s been driving him around and doing his shopping: He is keen to get back there. At the Diner flat, Robbo tells Colby that Jasmine is coming over for wedding preparations and also mentions seeing Bella. Jasmine arrives and asks Colby if Irene called him, explaining about Bella’s meltdown. Colby hurries off. Robbo takes Jasmine onto the balcony and shows her the partially finished cradle, saying the baby will need somewhere to sleep when it stays over. Jasmine wonders if Tori would actually let him have the baby in the early days, which he hadn’t thought of.
Bella and Ryder have finished a game of pool. Ryder needs to go back to work but Bella tries to get him to play another game, saying he would if he cared about her. Colby arrives and lets Ryder go. He tells Bella he heard about what happened at Irene’s. Bella refuses to talk to him, saying he didn’t listen when she said she wanted to come home so it’s nothing to do with him. Willow has come in during the tirade, as have Alf and Roo, and says it’s to do with her and she’s getting sick of it. Bella brandishes a pool cue; Colby tries to step in but Willow stops him, telling Bella she’d better get her with the first hit because she won’t get a second. Bella stares at her for a moment, then throws the cue down and walks out. Willow follows her down to the beach, forcibly stopping her. She says it’s Irene’s house and Willow has to follow her rules as well. Bella says Willow chose to be there while she was force to move in and maybe Irene will let her go home if she’s upset. Willow tells her to stop pushing away people trying to help her.
Alf, Roo and Colby are up in Salt. Colby says that living with Irene was meant to help Bella. Alf says he’s had experience of dealing with wayward teens. Roo smiles and says he’s referring to her; Colby notes she turned out all right. Alf says you have to stick to your guns and go with your gut. Meanwhile, Irene goes to the Diner and asks Marilyn if she’s seen Bella, confusing Marilyn slightly since she thought Bella was with her. Marilyn notes she’s decided she’s not moving away: Raffy needs her with Brody leaving. She admits she hasn’t told John and Irene says they need to talk.
Robbo and Jasmine walk on the beach. Jasmine says she wants to invite some of her colleagues from work, which would mean inviting everyone. Robbo is fine with that and says, aside from people in the Bay, he wants to invite Lance and his parents. He notes he isn’t sure if Lance will be able to get time off from work but assures Jasmine that the only person he really wants there is her. Later, they are back on the flat balcony and Jasmine wonders if they actually need a bridal party with them seeming to conclude they don’t. Robbo says he’s decided to give the cradle to Tori then they’ll get it back for their children. Jasmine looks thrown.
Willow brings Bella to the Diner where Irene ignores her initial attempts to speak to her. With a bit of prompting, Bella follows her into the kitchen and apologises. Irene accepts it. Bella asks if she can help. Irene notes she won’t ask her to do the dishes and suggests they make cupcakes together, sending her to get cleaned up. She gives Willow a grateful look. Willow heads up to the flat and gives Colby an update. Colby worries that he doesn’t know what Bella’s capable of. Willow says Colby of all people knows anyone is capable of anything, it’s about self-control. Colby thinks Bella doesn’t have any but Willow is more optimistic.
Bella takes the cupcakes out of the oven and Irene gives her instuctions on letting them cool. Bella recalls the last time she made a cake, with Michelle for Colby’s birthday. Ross threw it in the bin and Bella was upset Colby would think they didn’t care, but instead he was angry at Ross for upsetting her: They had a fight and he ended up in hospital with a broken arm, pleased he could get birthday messages on his cast. Irene is sympathetic. Upstairs, Colby is continuing to fret when Irene and Bella arrive with the cupcakes. Bella wishes him happy birthday, saying she’s got a lot of them to catch up on, and tells him not to give any to Willow. Colby invites her to come home but Bella says she’s not going to get better while she’s with him so she’ll stay with Irene. Colby notes he can’t keep up; Willow tells him not to question it.
At the surf club, Marilyn tries to talk to John about Raffy, mentioning Brody leaving and Mason’s trial coming up. John is distracted organising things though, calling over to Ryder to tell him to check the new roster. He asks Marilyn to wait for him up in Salt. Marilyn thinks she’s being fobbed off and angrily says she’s not going to bother if he’s not going to listen. She walks out. John catches up with her near the beach. He’s sorry he upset her. Marilyn tells him that she needs to stay with Raffy. John says Raffy has the Morgans while Jett just has them and accuses her of turning her back on both of them. He says he doesn’t know what to say to change her mind but Marilyn doesn’t see why she has to and asks why John’s making all the decisions.
