Dean and Ziggy navigate a new stage of their friendship. Irene and Bella enter WW3 over doing the dishes.
Extended Summary
Bella finishes her breakfast and adds the dish to a large pile near the sink. Willow notes Irene won’t be pleased but Bella says she’ll be gone by the time Irene gets back. In fact, Irene arrives home at that moment and says Bella isn’t going anywhere, despite her saying she’s arranged to meet Ryder: She’s grounded. Bella protests that she’s being held prisoner but Willow says it’s Irene’s house and Irene’s rules. Bella goes upstairs; Irene says the dishes will still be there when she comes down. At the Diner flat, Colby is reading a magazine. He gets a call from Bella but rejects it: It is the third missed call from her. Willow arrives to give him an update on the battle of wills between Irene and Bella. She tells him not to feel so bad since Irene volunteered and predicts one of them will crack soon. Colby hopes it isn’t Irene.
On the wharf, Ryder is helping Alf to untangle a net but seems to be paying more attention to his phone. Alf starts a speech about the value of work but Ryders gets a text from Bella saying there’s been a change of plan and to meet at Irene’s, and says he has to go. Meanwhile, Dean and Ziggy are cuddled up on her bed. Ziggy apologises for being a wreck and Dean says he’s seen worse, recalling when she threw up at the garage. Ziggy asks if he meant it about sticking around. Dean points out he’s still there and jokingly asks if he can change his mind when she lists her faults. She says she didn’t want to admit she was upset about Brody leaving.
Maggie arrives at the surf club, surprising Ben who thought she’d gone for a 10K run. Maggie says she’s worried about Ziggy and wonders if they should check on her. At that moment, Ziggy arrives with Dean, full of the joys, and Dean manages to get some board wax free for a surf. Ben and Maggie ponder whether the relationship might be more serious than they thought. Soon after, Ziggy and Dean are down on the beach preparing to go out for a surf. Willow approaches and asks Ziggy how she is. She suggests they go out with Colby that evening. Ziggy tells Dean he should go but Willow makes it clear she’s invited too. Ziggy agrees.
Ryder and Bella are trying to find a DVD to watch. Irene comes down and asks why Ryder’s there. Bella says Irene only said that she couldn’t go out, not that she couldn’t have anyone round. Irene suggests that Ryder needs to help John with a delivery at the surf club. Ryder says they’re all first thing but, when Irene threatens to call John, agrees that there’s a special delivery and leaves. Irene tells Bella that until she does the dishes there’s no television, no going out and no friends round. Bella angrily squares up to Irene, asking why she should care. Irene looks shaken and leaves the room. Bella sits down again, silently crying.
At the farm house, Maggie and Ben debate telling Ziggy about the album while she’s in a good mood. Ziggy comes in, dressed up, and insists it isn’t a date, just hanging out. Maggie tells her about the album, saying she’ll keep it on top of the cupboard in case she ever wants to look at it. Ziggy agrees there’s some good family photos in it before heading out. Ben gives credit to Dean but Maggie isn’t sure, saying his only interests are surfing and Ziggy and he only gets commission for his work. Ben compares her to Diana. Maggie admits it might be snobbery but says Ben might help Dean look after Ziggy by paying him a wage.
Dean and Ziggy turn up at Salt where Willow and Colby are already seated. Willow compliments Ziggy on her shoes, which she says she got in an online sale. Colby and Dean take this as the cue to go to the bar. Back at the beach house, Irene asks Bella if there’s something going on she doesn’t know about. Bella says she’s not Irene’s slave. Irene says even tough people need to talk. When Bella doesn’t respond, Irene says getting her to do the dishes is a reasonable request and once she does it she can do whatever she wants within reason. Bella isn’t interested in making life easier and goes to bed.
Willow and Ziggy both decide to leave the dinner early, leaving Dean and Colby to carry on without them. Colby notes things are going well and Dean says he’s waiting for Ziggy to wake up and ditch him. Colby jokes that they’re all doing that, then realises he’s serious. Dean says Brody said something about it and he also gets a vibe from Ben and Maggie. Colby tells him he shouldn’t listen to Ziggy’s ex. Meanwhile, Ziggy arrives home and finds Ben and Maggie playing Scrabble. She reveals that Ben is looking at a Scrabble Dictionary on his phone and explains Dean is still with Colby. She heads to bed after announcing what letters Ben has. Maggie contemplates inviting Dean round for dinner.
During the night, Dean climbs in through Ziggy’s window. Ziggy is in bed, somewhat sleepy, as Dean says he just wanted to check she was okay and cuddles up to her. Next morning, Maggie is making breakfast. Ben goes to ask Ziggy what she wants and finds her and Dean in bed naked. Maggie also cheerily greets them before closing the door. Dean and Ziggy hastily dress as Maggie calls through the door that she was going to invite Dean for dinner, but since he’s there he can stay for breakfast. Dean and Ziggy try to bail but Ben makes it clear that if Dean can stay the night he can stay for breakfast. The pair reluctantly troop after the parents with Ziggy wondering why she moved home.
Irene asks Willow if she’s seen Bella this morning. Willow wonders if she’s gone out early despite Irene pointing out she isn’t supposed to. Willow says she’ll call Colby. Later, Bella is at the flat and ignores a text from Willow saying Irene’s worried about her. Colby turns up, having heard from Irene. Bella says she’s sorry and will do whatever he wants. Colby says she’s with Irene to stop her doing things like this. Bella begs him not to send her back.
Dean compliments Maggie on the food. Maggie asks about his family: He says his dad didn’t want to know him and his mum’s in a mental health facility but Willow, Colby and Bella are his family now. Ziggy drags him out, saying she’s going to the adoption agency for new parents. Later, Ben joins Dean at the surf club. He tells him he’s going to pay him a salary. Dean says he doesn’t have to but Ben says Maggie’s told him to. He also tells him to come through the front door when he visits Ziggy: If he comes through the window again, he’ll nail it shut.
Willow and Irene have come to the flat. Bella sits in silence as Colby chats to Irene, leaving with her without a word. Colby is uncertain but Willow insists he needs to stick with things. Back at the beach house, Irene again tries to get Bella to do the dishes, saying that having structure makes people happy. Bella says she’ll deal with them…but to Irene’s shock, she proceeds to lift them up one by one, dropping and smashing them.
