Can Brody and Simone work out a way to move forward and start their new life together? Ziggy sets her sights on a charity rally, but can she get the car up to scratch in time?

Extended Summary

Brody follows Simone out onto the headland and apologises. Simone says she didn’t deserve it and Brody should have told her how he felt a week ago instead of blowing up at her. Dean and Ziggy observe the argument. Ziggy comments quietly on trouble in paradise while Dean greets them in a loud and faux-cheery manner. Simone walks away. Not too far away, Roo is suggesting she and Alf have dinner together and, when he doesn’t respond, suggests a surfing lesson. Alf is texting Martha but denies missing her, saying he just wants to check she got home safely. He declines dinner, wanting to be by himself for a bit. Roo goes over to Bella, who wants to go and see Ryder; she knows about Raffy’s seizure because they’re talking about it in the Diner. Roo advises calling him first. She congratulates Bella on handing in her assignment on time but Bella says she doesn’t care how she did and thinks Roo is only saying that because it was bad.

Dean and Ziggy arrive back at the farm house, amused by the earlier encounter. Ben and Maggie are there and Maggie makes an awkward attempt to ask about the surf. Ziggy tells them about seeing Brody and Simone. She goes to get changed before working on the car. When Maggie offers Dean tea or coffee, he decides to go outside and start work. Meanwhile, Brody has tracked down Simone again. They comment on how Ziggy enjoyed seeing them falling out, although unlike Dean she didn’t say anything. Simone acknowledges that she wanted to escape the town but says they need to be on the same page.

Bella is pacing the flat and tells Colby that Ryder is looking after Raffy and she thinks they want to be alone. Colby suggests she do some schoolwork and she says she finished the creative writing piece quickly so she’d have time to herself. Colby has a couple of days off so suggests they hang out. Bella asks if they can call Dean and Willow. Shortly after, Willow meets them at the Diner but Bella is disappointed Dean isn’t there. She wants to call him again but Colby says maybe later. Bella says she wants a drink, which is her way of asking for money. Colby notes to Willow that he isn’t sure how Bella is doing.

Ziggy comes inside to look for a socket set. Maggie hands Ziggy a flyer for a charity event she got through her cancer fundraising, a bomb car rally, and suggests she enter next year. Ziggy goes out and tells Dean she wants to be ready for this year, even though it’s only a couple of days. She tries to accuse Dean of backing down from a challenge; he doesn’t take the bait but she won’t drop it. They go back inside where Dean asks Ben and Maggie to talk sense into Ziggy and Ziggy tries to get Ben to order Dean to help her. Ben decides to go and do a stock take and Maggie goes with him. Dean tells Ziggy they can’t do it on their own. Ziggy leaves Justin a message.

Brody tells Simone he’s had more missed calls from the broker and was on board with the move but it’s kind of hit him, along with what’s happened to Mason and Raffy and the fact Raffy turns sixteen soon. Simone wonders where it leaves them if he can’t reconcile with living away from his family. Down on the beach, Colby and Willow are sunbathing but Bella is poking the sand with a stick and complains that she’s bored. She wishes that Dean was there but Willow says if he was he’d be out surfing and she wouldn’t see him. Colby gets a phone call.

At the surf club, Ben and Maggie chat about Ziggy’s work on the car but both agree they’d rather she was doing that than partying. Brody brings some mail over and notes Ziggy seems to be doing better and he hopes Dean respects that. Ben and Maggie both make it clear they don’t care about his opinion. Maggie meets Roo at the Diner and congratulates her on her work with Bella. Roo says Simone started it but Maggie says she can’t take all the credit. She has worked out a schedule for Roo to fit in sessions with Bella around her classes and hopes Bella can be in the classroom full-time soon. Roo shows Maggie Bella’s creative writing assignment.

Dean and Ziggy are making slow progress on the car; Ziggy notes Justin can’t help because he’s looking after Raffy. Colby, Willow and Bella pull up (in Dean’s car) having been summoned by Dean. Bella complains about being dragged there and both she and Willow seem uncomfortable with how tactile Dean and Ziggy are. Dean directs Willow and Bella to sand down the rusted bodywork and add filler, and tells Colby, who seemed happy to sit drinking beer, to clean the parts. Meanwhile, Brody goes into the Salt storeroom and prepares to make a call but Simone stops him, saying she doesn’t want him accepting the offer for her sake. She says things are better in town now so she’ll take casual shifts until the maternity cover starts, giving him time to make his mind up. She also suggests throwing a party for Raffy’s 16th.

Willow is looking up the race details on a laptop with Ziggy, noting there’s a 24 hour version and a five day one: Ziggy opts for the former. She is unfazed when Willow says the car has to be fully registered and capable of at least 100km/h but is thrown when Willow says you need two drivers, which she hadn’t realised. Outside, Bella helps Dean remove the exhaust. Dean chides her for leaving the rust to Willow but she says she’s waiting for the filler to dry. She joins Colby, wondering why Dean and Willow aren’t together. Colby says things change but Dean will still be around. Ziggy calls them in to lunch.

Maggie agrees with Roo that Bella’s piece was impressive: The spelling and grammar aren’t up to much but she has a natural flare. Maggie tells Roo to keep at it. Back at the farm house, everyone is sat eating lunch. Ziggy asks Dean to be her co-driver on the rally, which seems to make everyone uncomfortable. Bella loses her temper and asks why no-one can see how wrong it is.
