Bella finds issue with Ziggy and Dean’s friendship. Ziggy and Dean work to get the car fixed. Jett is left with some hard choices.
Extended Summary
Bella heads out of the farm house, followed by first Colby and then Willow. Bella insists that Dean and Ziggy shouldn’t be allowed to go away together. Colby says they’re just friends and Willow says Dean can do what he wants. Bella walks off. Colby and Willow pop inside and Colby tells Dean and Ziggy that Bella will just miss Dean if he’s gone for a week. They head back out and Ziggy again tries to talk Dean into partnering her. Dean doesn’t think Ben will give him the time off but Ziggy says he’ll want her to be safe. Dean dodges by saying they should concentrate on getting the car running.
The group work on the car outside; Bella seems to be paying attention to the fact that Dean is working with Ziggy while Willow struggles to unscrew the wheels on her own. Ziggy is frustrated, thinking they’re not going to make it, but Dean is happy to pull an all-nighter with her. Colby and Willow want to leave them to it but Bella tries to get them to stay. Dean asks her to help him with a job first. Meanwhile, Marilyn and Jett arrive at the surf club and Alf and Jett banter about who has right of way. Jett heads off to the gym while Marilyn tells Alf she’s worried about John encouraging Jett’s plans.
That evening, John takes a phone call on the Diner veranda. He tells Alf and Irene that he’s spoken to Padre Wilson about getting counselling information for Jett but Wilson doesn’t think it’s a good fit. Alf guesses he thinks it’s too soon. John isn’t sure what to do so Alf suggests he lets Jett decide. Later, Marilyn and Jett are outside the Palmer house. John gives Jett the information but also suggests counselling might be rather full-on and might bring up things for him too. Realising what he’s getting at, Jett says he doesn’t want to make things worse for other people and abandons the idea.
Ziggy searches the farm house for a torch, while Ben and Maggie are slightly bemused at the full house when they get home. Maggie turns to Bella, who quickly says she didn’t do it, and tells her that she and Roo were impressed with her creative writing piece. Colby and Willow practically have to drag Bella out, leaving Ziggy and Dean to continue the work. Colby, Willow and Bella go back to the Diner flat. Willow tries to argue that a car rally isn’t romantic but Bella points out they’ll be sleeping under the stars. Willow leaves, looking upset. Bella tells Colby it’s because she likes Dean and wants everyone to be happy. Colby attempts to say he’s happy she’s doing well at school.
Dean tells Ziggy they need to sleep, at least to have the energy to push the car when it breaks down. He still isn’t sure about accompanying her, believing she still has unresolved issues over Brody. Ziggy says the distraction of the car worked and promises she won’t jump him again. She leaves him to sleep on the couch. Next morning, Alf and John are working on a boat off the wharf. John is worried that he’s set Jett back by building his hopes up. Alf says he spoke to a mate down the RSL who could put him in touch with organisations that help veterans. Back at the house, Jett is looking despondently at his tablet. John turns up and insists Jett come with him, signalling to Marilyn that he knows what he’s doing.
Dean, Ziggy, Colby, Bella and Willow are all gathered around the car. Dean and Ziggy decide that they need to replace the battery, the tyres and the roof rack. Ben and Maggie check in but the others say they can handle it. Dean also gets Ben’s permission to accompany Ziggy on the rally. The group set to work, with Ziggy and Dean replacing the battery and Willow sorting out the roof. Eventually, everything is done, with Colby quipping they have negative half an hour to go. Ziggy prepares to pack and asks Dean for the keys. He admits he left them at the van. Telling the others they didn’t see this, Colby takes a screwdriver and hotwires it. Dean says he has to get his boardies, and they also need Justin to sign off on the rego, so they make plans to pack, swing by the garage and the caravan park, and finally go to the surf club to say goodbye to everyone. Colby and Willow anticipate another struggle with Bella but instead she immediately agrees to go.
Colby, Bella and Willow arrive back at the Diner flat. Colby attempts to make light of things, saying they get a week off Dean, but Bella kills the mood by saying a lot can happen in a week. Willow says she and Dean are fine not being together. Bella walks out and Willow tells Colby she’s going to try and get Dean out of her head. Downstairs, Marilyn frets to Irene that she isn’t sure John’s plan will cheer Jett up. She is quickly proved to be worrying for nothing when the pair turn up in a good mood. Jett has spoken to someone who also came back injured and who goes around talking to groups, thinking it is something he can do. He also got invited to a bowls tournament. He moves away to take a call from Wilson.
At the surf club, Ben and Maggie debate whether they can trust Dean with Ziggy; Ben says he’s done right by her and at the board shop. Dean and Ziggy turn up, having got the paperwork from Justin. Maggie takes a photo of them to put on the website and attract sponsorship: As Ben predicted, they reject her name of Team Summer Bay. Maggie privately tells Dean to be safe; Dean initially gives a flippant response but one death glare later he agrees. Outside, Ben, Maggie, Willow and Colby gather to say goodbye to the pair, with Colby saying Bella’s off sulking. A round of hugs and another photo later, Willow tearfully tells Dean she wants him to be happy. Dean asks Colby for an explanation but Colby says Dean knows what it’s about. Dean looks from Willow to Ziggy as though taking in the situation for the first time, then he and Ziggy drive off.
Jett finishes the phone call while Irene serves John and Marilyn. He tells his parents that accommodation has become available sooner than expected: He can move in next week. He isn’t sure it’s what he wants. Meanwhile, Dean and Ziggy drive out of Summer Bay and Ziggy gives a whoop of joy. However, they are unaware that Bella is hiding in the boot.
