A group of youths are playing ball on the beach. Ziggy is heading out for a surf and one of the group, Mark, comes over and introduces himself. Ziggy refuses to recipricate and carries on, encountering Dean. She tells him she can handle Mark. Dean asks what she was doing the previous night but Ziggy thinks he wants to find out for Ben. Mark calls out to her as she heads into the sea and seems set to stand watching her. Dean tells him to move on. Mark initially refuses but after a bit more death glare from Dean he walks away. Later, Mark and the others are playing pool at the surf club as Ziggy joins Dean at the board shop counter. Ben and Maggie also appear and Maggie invites Ziggy to join her on a trip to Yabbie Creek for shopping and a movie. Ziggy says she’s busy hanging out with her new friends, joining Mark and the others.
John and Marilyn try to talk to Jett, asking what he wants from them. After a long silence, Jett says he needs to change his shirt and heads to his room. John and Marilyn worry about what to do with him. Later, John leaves a phone message for Padre Wilson, asking for any news of the investigation and also saying they need help with Jett. Marilyn suggests John needs to take a break, advising he go to the surf club and catch up on work. She says she can take the day off to look after Jett. John agrees and, when Jett comes back, he says he’s okay with it. Marilyn offers Jett a cuppa.
At the Diner, Leah and Roo are making plans to go to the gym. Irene arrives and admits she’s worried about Jasmine. She asks Leah about seeing Jasmine and Robbo earlier. Leah says it looked tense and Irene explains Jasmine’s acting as if nothing happened. She agrees to let Leah go, since Marilyn should be there soon. At the surf club, Ziggy is playing pool with Mark and the others. John arrives and thanks Ben for keeping an eye on the place, admitting things aren’t good with Jett before heading into the office. Ziggy joins Dean at the juice bar and encourages him to give the guys a chance but he isn’t interested. Ben also comes over and tells Ziggy Maggie was trying to make things up to her but Ziggy dismisses the conversation as boring.
Marilyn has made Jett a sandwich and offers to get him anything he wants. Jett snaps at her and then apologises. He isn’t sure how long he can stay there, despite Marilyn’s reassurances. He worries that he’s lost his army career and that he may never get a job or be able to look after himself, being a burden to them forever. Marilyn advises him to focus on the present and suggests they get some fresh air. Meanwhile, Leah, Roo and Maggie are all taking part in a class at the gym. Maggie discusses Ziggy falling back into old patterns. Leah gets a phone call from Irene and has to go back to the Diner to cover for Marilyn.
Jett and Marilyn sit on the headland, admiring the view. Irene brings Jett a milkshake and he notes he’s missed them. Back at the surf club, one of the youths, Drew, comes down from Salt with a box of beer bottles. John tells them they can’t drink them in there, so either take them outside or he’ll call the police. The group decide to leave and Ziggy decides to go with them. Dean tries to talk her out of it but Ziggy says she doesn’t need permission from her dad or his minions. Ben thanks Dean for trying. Dean tells him about Brody leaving with Simone and Ben gives him an early dart. Outside, Mark is telling Ziggy they’re only in town two days. Drew notices Dean watching them. Ziggy goes over and tells him that having fun is the only way for her to take her mind off things.
Jett and Marilyn reminisces about the trouble Jett used to get in with VJ. Jett reveals that before he found out how bad his injuries were, he was considering going to Cyprus to see him. Marilyn says he still can when he’s stronger. John joins them and tells Jett Wilson wanted him to call. Jett goes a little distance away to make the call in private and John tells Marilyn the investigation cleared him. Jett ends the call, saying something is not necessary. He is ambivalent about the news but asks what John and Marilyn have been saying, since Wilson offered him counselling. He says he doesn’t want to talk, just go home. Later, at the Diner, Marilyn recounts the incident to Irene, Leah and Roo, saying she doesn’t know the right thing to say. Irene suggests there is no right thing.
Ziggy is with the group standing around a fire at the caravan park. Mark offers her another beer but she declines, saying she’s having fun without it. Mark wants her to go to his van with him; Ziggy again declines but Mark persists, calling her a tease. Ziggy starts to walk away and Mark grabs her arm. Dean steps in, sending Mark back to his friends, and insists on walking Ziggy. At the surf club, Ben and Maggie have a light-hearted debate about ordering takeaway. Dean marches Ziggy in; she refuses to talk, taking the car keys and saying she’ll wait for them. Ben tells Dean they owe him.
Dean goes back to his caravan and finds Mark sat outside, noting he was gone a long time. Dean looks around and sees Mark’s friends behind him. Meanwhile, Marilyn arrives home. John tells her that Jett is in his room, on the phone to Wilson. Jett emerges and says he’s feeling better and has finally taken control. He says he’s moving out and Wilson is arranging him a place. John and Marilyn look shocked.
Next morning, Mark and Drew drive out into the bush. They open the car boot, to reveal a beaten and unconscious Dean. They dump him by the side of the road and drive off.
